One of the things I love about your channel, beyond never showing your face (cuz it's all about sharing the music), is how your lessons feel like a friend in front of me showing me how to play a song he just played in the way of "Look, I just learned this." "Cool, what are those chords and that lick????" and then, like a guitar playing friend, you go, "It's like this."

Ray Davies has to be one of the most criminally underrated musicians ever to walk the earth. The simplicity of his melodies , coupled with rock solid backing made The Kinks stand out from the crowd. Great video and good tips on some of the finer nuances going on in the recording.

I've been playing since 1977...I eventually sort of taught myself to read music...it's useless, or next to it. But what I've got to say is this; So many years, i'm a "Chord Freak"...fingerstyle enthusiast and like you love many kinds of music. But when I learn a new song, I come to you and see how close mine comes to yours. If it's the same or nearly so, I know it's right. I'm a lazy bastard, true...but the reality is I've never come across a better "ear" than yours. Thanks for just everything you do, James. Best of Everything to you and your Lady.

Seen the Kinks in Cleveland’s Public Hall in the early 70’s. One of my all time favorite show! The first half of the concert was like Dave’s rocking out early stuff and after an hour and a half they took a 15 minute break and came out doing Rays theatrical stuff!

YES! The G note on top of the C chord is essential. I figured that out, thanks for validating! Also a Dobro is THE tone for this. And you really have to smack the opening chords near the bridge to get the feel and vibe. Great lesson!!

Damn that J200 growls! Last month I decided I "needed" yet another guitar and decided it was going to be a J200. That is until I saw the prices, even used. Yikes! Plus there are many warnings that one shouldn't buy a J200 (or any Gibson for that matter) before first playing it due to inconsistencies in Gibson quality control. I wound up buying a new Martin D-18, but I'm still lusting for a J200. Good lesson.

Yes!! That’s the altered intro. I recall an even longer version that got radio play back in the 80’s but this great. Thanks GuitarGeorge. I heard that the Kinks were every bit as good live as the stones. This performance supports that notion.
