Everyone talking about "challenge" overlooks the core issue of its cause. The game is easy if you have a good weapon. The game is challenging but fair if your weapon is acceptable or starting to get out of date. The challenge is *immense* if your weapon is 20-30 levels outdated and the game just refuses to let you generate anything better. It's so weird that I simply haven't seen any streamer articulate that there's a gigantic difference in difficulty between someone who lucked into a great weapon and only needs to survive 30 seconds to kill a boss, versus someone desperate beyond belief for an upgrade who needs to spend 2 minutes surviving a boss. Both people have the same amount of health pot uses, but one can just facetank it and spam pots like crazy while the other needs to make very few mistakes. And that sucks. Get lucky, game's easy. Get unlucky, game is really frustrating. I'm in T5 maps, I'm level 74, and my crossbow I bought from a vendor back in A4. It's level 45. I haven't found a better weapon in 29 LEVELS. And not for a lack of trying, I've thrown every goddamn resource at every crossbow possible trying to make something better, and the game is having none of it. My DPS is incredibly mediocre, and there's nothing further I can do besides bash my head against this wall until the game by grace gifts me a better weapon. It's a shit feeling, one of total helplessness. Enduring this slog isn't "difficult", is mindnumbingly boring. When I got this broke ass crossbow right at the start of A4, I speedran it in 45 minutes. It's unreal how strong I was. The damage started falling off hard in A6 but was still acceptable, but now the DPS is feeling pretty bad. PoE1...I don't remember this being that bad? But then again that game puked loot at you, going 10 levels without a viable weapon replacement was pretty damn rare. It's just a frustrating feeling in PoE2 with no recourse other than slam the slot machine again and again. And you know what sucks? When I got this crossbow in A4 it felt amazing, like my build truly worked (basic ass Explosive Grenade spam + Explosive Shot). The game felt perfect. So for that feeling to have worn off and be stuck without any way of getting it back until I get lucky, I dunno what else to say.

all the cybertruck owner-tier "how dare you critique the game" boys would hate that you're right. they've stepped on this rake over and over again throughout poe1's history, trying to implement "the vision." their "vision" should have landed them in the dustbin of games industry history over and over again but every time it was juuuust about to, they listened to the community and relented. now poe2's the unbridled vision and surprise surprise, it's a bad game!

Glad to see there’s at least some people being critical of what, for me at the moment, seems a very overhyped game. Whilst I admit I’m the very definition of a ‘filthy casual’ my biggest gripe is with the difficulty curve. Actually, you can’t even call it a curve because it makes no attempt to ease new players into the game. I’m all for challenging content, but there’s a point at which it goes beyond fun and becomes almost masochistic, which is kind of where I am right now. Wouldn’t be so bad if the loot drops were giving more in the way of potential build options, but all I’m getting right now is either gold or weapons woefully inappropriate for the sorc I’m playing. I don’t want to be ‘showered with shinies’ like D4 does, but gimme a break FFS! I’m glad the majority of people are having fun in the game - their definition of fun obviously differs from mine 😂 - but I’m not feeling it at the moment. Too much risk (ie. difficulty) versus not enough reward (namely, loot). I need to find the patience to persist with it from somewhere, as I don’t doubt there’s a great game that at the moment seems completely out of reach.

I thought some of the pre game videos from GGG indicated currency was going to drop like rain, because they wanted peep to have early access to crafting. Did I misread this or was it changed?

And it does drop, alts doesnt exist here which immediately makes the crafting system totally different and makes the tons of trans and augs you get make alot of sense. Its back to old school rng and I personally love it.

@@TheRealValdil We drop nothing... The gear I wear was from lvl30-32 and less and Im lvl 61... how can you love it ? The gamble is too costly, you can lvl up 1 time before having the gold to buy 1 item... and the currency is just a way to get magic item...

Completely agree that the game ain’t too difficult. The issue is the game prevents power progression so people just feel stuck. Not like “oh I just have to learn this fight” it’s “well. I have no gear and no gear is dropping. So I guess I just play the map over and over” which will make most players uninstall and move on Edit I log on and I’m in a dungeon. I don’t wanna spoil. But there is a chest. I click it. All sorts of monsters spawn with and elite. I’m all “oooh nice”. 14 gold. The chest I had to clear out monsters that were spawned by opening it. Gave me 14 gold. This will make average gamers never come back. This is what killed Diablo 4.

I would highly appreciate it, if respeccing would be either... a) without any costs or b) make the costs very low or c) combine it with a number of free uses per day. After that, it costs you. Currently, it really limits creativity and everyone (myself included, to be honest) will just follow build guides. Additionally, we dont really create our own character rpg-lore-wise. We pick a class and roll with it. So, it even makes less sense, to put high costs behind the respec feature.

Poe 2 is designed with the ruthless mindset in PoE 1: Everything's a grind, MS is a prime stat because of how gigantic the map instances are, there's no util flasks, no poe 1 type movement skills, monsters rarely drops anything and if it does it's mostly white items, currency drops are rare as well. If you've played lake of kallandra league in poe 1, loot scarcity is like that but times 10. If you're a poe 1 ruthless player you'd feel right at home in poe 2, because this game is exactly designed for you. If you're a casual player with limited amount of gaming time because of a job, family or other commitments, this game does NOT respect your time.

I'm surprised at just how bad loot is given everything they've said in the past, but seriously - undertuning loot is 100% the correct decision at the beginning of an Early Access beta. It's only buffs from here.

As a Warrior That first point about the negative attack speed resonates so hard. So many negative attack speeds attached to 2H nodes. It doesn’t sound a big deal right? You hit harder but slower. Well it is because it makes the already slow skills bloody hard to get off in the short damage windows in boss fights. . It fits with the fantasy but feels so bad to play.

i am definitely feeling that. the reduced atatck speed on the 2h stuff just feels so bad to play with in general. i removed the nodes that reduced the attack speed and the character feels so much nicer, but don't do nearly any damage. im going to need to go back to the reduced speed if i want to kill anthing.

@@theBlackbriar It wouldn't be as bad if there were nodes we could invest in that gave back that AS, but there just isn't. It's odd, because they added Giant's Blood to the tree, which means they know people will have the power fantasy of being the juggernaut swinging around 2 massive weapons, but then give you nothing else to make it work.

@@JordaanM there are nodes to increase attack, cast and skill speeds. You just need to path to them, and it might not be worth the 5+ points to get there

Agreed. I'm closing in on the end of Act 2 and I just feel like I'm going through the motions because the only options I have for play are "continue the campaign with its barely coherent story" or "run old zones on repeat".

I hope a change in gearing helps you guys. I personally love it and can't wait to start maps. (Just finished cruel) However. All the concerns listed in this video are accurate and would improve the game. This one won't be for all poe1 fans. But I'm hoping more changes get it closer to that point. Even through the tedious parts I can't stop playing with a smile because I can see what this game can become as long as they listen to the important pieces of criticism

I'm close to finishing campaign and at this stage I don't think ill be sticking around for maps too long - it just feels too like too much stick and no carrot.. I think the population will drop off a cliff in the next few weeks and GGG will be forced to listen.

the current crafting system is basically ID-ing gear with extra steps. Start with 1 mod, is it good? add another mod, still good? add another... etc. You could also drop more rares and ID them and end up in the same place. Essences are the only edge-case, but mostly way late-game to give you a better starting point for endgame gear. The problem is the power curve on gear in

I’m lvl 71 and the gear nor currency drop rate hasn’t gotten better whatsoever. Nothing good dropping. No currency dropping to work on these bases I have. Just….. nothing at all.

the rarity in chest needs to be changed for sure. A yellow chest should absolutely give at least one rare. I also run out of gold from one 8k chest that was a huge upgrade, but then spent the rest on gambling 5 weapons and was to broke to respec for an item. I expect things like this will get tuned in some way for the better. We have a lot of time left in early access.

Perfect video. Something i really want fixed is ARTIFICER ORBS. This is in line with currency being a problem but with runes being the new "crafting bench". Youre supposed to use them to help fix your builds issues, but you cant 99% of the time because you dont have sockets on your gear and cant put any on your gear.. Respecc needs to be basically free until like level 70. More shards! Disenchanting to get 1 shard in act 1. And then 1 shard in act 4 is just terrible. It should scale with item level up to eventually a full regal in endgame. I saw a lot of people saying to just combine all of the vendor things. Disenchanting, selling and salvaging all at once giving you all the mats/gold. I 100% agree. Its not fun when you need the quality currency, need the artificer currency, need the gold, and need the regal shards but can only pick one...

I understand what you are saying, but during the acts you really only need to use artificers orbs on weapons, as long as you are picking up and salvaging items that have sockets you shouldn't have issues with that, and then once you hit the endgame you get more than enough to fully socket every piece of gear.

I'm talking about the very clear intention(they literally said it) for runes to be used as old poe1 crafting bench to fix your builds issues through the campaign. All the way to the end of act 3 i only ever got 2 artificer orbs total. And that's salvaging everything with sockets. Late game its not an issue. Early game when you need it the most. It is.

For early access, the game is great. Balancing is going to be an issue early, that is just the nature of the beast. My first impressions were mixed coming from the perspective of someone with over 6k hours in 1. However after settling in, putting 40 hours in 2, I am liking it a whole lot more.

this ain't their first rodeo and after delaying the game twice, it's just unacceptably bad lol. "the vision" is a bad game. kalandra league proved it, ruthless mode being made fun of proved it, and now "the vision" itself proves it. ggg only succeeded back in the day because people were willing to put up w/ something that was marginally better than diablo 3. now people are sticking w/ current poe1 or diablo 4 because poe2 is a distillation of every bad design choice they've ever made. GGG'll never eat the ever growing plate of crow until tencent steps in and guts the studio imo.

What do you mean by balance though? If you mean changes to loot, grind, difficulty, slogging though and kiting enemies, etc, then sorry but none of that is changing. They have all been like that since Beta and GGG has stated thats how they want it. THey dont care about anyones feedback. They want a super grindy sloggy game to cater to some audience that they think exists.

Playing merc too and yea changing ammo feels very clunky and annoying. I'm semi-ok with reload itself though I wouldn't mind a buff there but they should just make the ammo be used just like any other skills, let the reload animation play automatically but then the character should just shoot using the same button and make the actual reload a separate skill that you get automatically. It should also IMO reload the full clip when you change ammo, currently it results in awkward pauses where you change to galvanic shards -> wait for animation, shoot one time an realise there's no more ammo -> reload animation etc

I had a very hard Act 1 as Monk. Now in Act 2 it is way better. But why? Because I dropped two items luckily. You are absolutely right about the currency drops and the missing possibilities in the crafting system. That beeds tweaking.

I've spent 2 hours in Utzaal yesterday. Gigantic location with few checkpoints, filled with chaos and cold spamming stacks in every corner, as melee with 14% chaos res. This whole concept of ranged monsters charging powerful attacks (hello little metal things in spires) on you from outside of the screen begs for good old solution from PoE: play ranged or melee 'ranged', and spam offscreen. Ranged casters and charged attacks are so punishing on melee characters that you want to quit after 10th death in one location.

I think most of the problems with the currency are a result of the overly simplistic disenchant system. When you put an item with 5 mods in and it gives you the same single regal shard it would've if it was a 3mod, or when you spend a regal to try to get an almost usable item to actually be an upgrade and then only get 1/10th of that back for your failure, it really feels like you can't affor to use regals or exalts on upgrades. Also, I think alterations should be re-introduced but changed in the same way as chaos orbs: make them an orb that removes a mod and adds another... on a blue item...

I didn't get to start playing until Saturday night, and after several hours I knew I had seen this game before. It was called "Ruthless." It felt like playing Ruthless mode from POE1 with a new coat of paint. Should not surprise me as I think GGG devs really loved Ruthless mode. I spent a good bit of time playing on Sunday and uninstalled late Sunday night. I'm not sure who the target audience is for this game. My complaint with GGG during much of the time I played POE1 was that all their design and balance decisions were all based on what the top % of the player base was doing. The more casual player base was never considered in any decision made in the game, and at times, the more casual players were punished unnecessarily. I was hoping that was going to change since GGG stated they wanted to make the game more accessible for new/casual players. I don't see any casual players sticking around for this game. The most obvious reason is the difficulty. In absolute GGG traditional fashion, it launched over tuned and under rewarding. I don't remember any POE1 league that was not this way. Casual players have a limited amount of time to play, therefore an overly difficult game is not typically in their wheelhouse. To me, the core audience for POE2 is no different than POE1. It is a game designed for the grinders who have huge chunks of time to play. The streamers and no-lifers will eat this up. To me, the game felt like a slog through mud. I really did not care for spending 80% of my game time trying to attack while going backwards. It is apparent that I am not part of the target audience for this game. I want a fun campaign, and I want to feel rewarded and powerful while doing it. I don't want to play a whole campaign under geared and unrewarded without much of a chance of changing that. I feel like the base of a good game is there, but GGGs track record gives no indication that the game will ever be more friendly to the normal gamer.

Nah, you're cooking, im in the military and barely have time, but I get chunks of time to play. This game has the opposite problem of most games where the difficulty doesn't the mirror the rewards, the difficulty of the game isn't the problem but the natural progression of the game is the issue.

Couldn't agree more with you on this, 100% correct and valid points! I logged into poe1 last night and was already having way more fun than the constant tedious game play of poe2. The player base is going to fall off a cliff in the coming weeks unless they make some drastic changes. The sweatlords that glaze it will not be enough to justify this game being around. My complaint is it was supposed to be a extension of poe1 not a completely different shit show of non-existent progression and boring slow gameplay.

i think its easy for everyone to end up on the same build when 50% of the skills are "combo" skills that want you to use another skill with them and the other 50% require 2 quality of life gems just to feel good to use

I'm surprised more ppl aren't talking about this. Im loving the game, but the build diversity is kinda wack. There's a few good builds for each class but like who wasn't gonna think of running arc and flamewall or fireball and icewall, or lighting warp and chain lightning. The builds are just so obvious

Just up the currency drop rate by 10x and it’ll be fine. Why did GGG lie before release? “If you’re not getting a ton of exalts by the end of the first act something is wrong.” YES SOMETHING IS WRONG

@ no one has gotten 4 exalts by end of act 1 in poe2. I don’t think I got 4 by the time I made it to endgame

Same staff since level 16. At end of act 3 cannot beat a the boss cause no damage and crap gear. After 30 tries I'll just have to restart cause I will not 'farm campaign hoping for drips' as it is just counterintuitive and on some level insulting in wasting my already spare time

depending on the build and gear, 8% decreased atk speed actually might actually be worse than 40% inc damage so the whole node becomes utter garbage.

Attack speed effects so much in terms of other stats that it's an extremely hard ask to lose any of it, no matter what you gain.

Dude the strongest part of poe is the crafting system. Why they decided to change that around, and in my opinion, made it worse... is beyond me. They didnt need to fuck with the crafting at all.

Love how anyone who DARES criticizes this game the difficulty lovers just insult them instead of arguing against their points. Paints a great picture about the community. Considering alot of people coming off of poe1 you know the people who supported ggg and still do, get yelled at if they so as think to say any system is bad is kinda cringe. Edit: yes we have poe1 but doesn't ggg WANT those older poe1 players to move to poe2? It's like the diablo 3 coming off of diablo 2 situation all over again where they change too much and divide the community that hurts itself in the long run.

my huge problem for me is: why do have 3 systems for the same thing? disenchanting, buy and sell and the destruction bench are the same system. why no just sell the itens in a vender and they literaly give you the shards and a bit of gold, or the currancy base on the item? for a exemple a rare item on a vender should give you a shard and a bit of gold with that you dont need the disenchanting bullshit. the same shit with the bench. insted you going for the bench you just sell the gear. IT is realy anoying having to use 3 system that do the same shit just becouse they dont want to give you gold and shards at the same time.

I was going with merc, armor shredding + high velocity rounds. The thing is, I had to unload two full magazines of the armor shredding to fully break the armor for high velocity to consume it, it took so long that it was better to just spam HVR. On top of that I couldn't upgrade my crossbow in any way. Switched to sorc. The times have changed, no one wants to sink 10k hours in a game like D2 era.

There's a certain type of player (very vocal on the forums) who will say EXACTLY that they want those 10K hours of grinding "depth" back, though. That's what makes this their latest "best game ever". I'd rather have fun and quality of life and play other games as well as this rather than feeling tied to one due to Sunk Cost Fallacy :D I am totally with you on the merc gameplay, btw. I haven't got anywhere near the end of Act 1 with my Merc but already I'm finding the reloading clunky and it's just more fun to use basic shot and fire off some grenades. I know I'm "doing it wrong" but doing it "right" feels bad.

Until everyone is completely morally defeated, our job will not be done. @@NightfallGemini The only thing Tencent will be watching is the dollars from 1million EA participants, there's no shot they give any sort of a fuck about the gameplay. We're still in the honeymoon phase but the feedback will come soon. I think GGG will be forced to listen once player numbers start dropping from the casuals who are only here for a single play through and the hype dies down.

In PoE1, when i have an item at low level it's because i don't have the need to change it cause i'm powerfull enough that i don't need to upgrade my gear, in PoE2 in the same situation i don't change my gear cause i didn't drop any good item to replace it and i feel kinda stuck, also boss are good but melee and i mean real melee is really scuff you have little to no time to get 1 or 2 attack before the boss does a mechanic that you need to dodge wich mean you can't hit it

This is a completely different type of ARPG. Sadly, pretty much all your complaints to the game wont be fixed, because they are all purposeful decisions that GGG has made, and they are way to stubborn.

I agree. Crafting currency drop rates would fix most complaints about bosses being too hard or people worrying about the respec $$ because characters would just be stronger and tankier. Nothing excessive. They would just be slightly better. Maybe better enough for everyone to not compare this to ruthless mode. Nothing about the word "Ruthless" says fun and video games

chris and the boys' "vision" is ruthless mode, closed beta poe1. they're actually really bad at game design and the only reason poe1 wound up good was because their hand got forced by hemorrhaging players every time they tried to implement "the vision." they genuinely think poe1 is a bad game for all the reasons why it's popular now, because "omg people progress too fast, muh player retentionnnn" which they shut up about after kalandra league gave many people the final straw.

I’d say POE2 launch gameplay is better than launch/beta POE1. It has a long way to go before it’ll be as enjoyable as POE1, from QoL to balance to build diversity. All the fanboys screaming skill issue etc. don’t realize we’re borderline beta testers right now, and the game has a long way to go.

neither GGG nor Blizzard really understand why their first breakthrough ARPG game (PoE1 and D2 respectively) was successful. They think they know, and we get D3 and D4 and PoE2 with what they believe is the best parts of their games, but it 100% is not it.

I feel like half the problem is that they told us we'd get lots of exalts in Act 1, but then didn't tell us that drop rate seems to scale down. I used Regals and Exalts early because I got a fair amount in Act 1, and then got less in Act 2, and even less in Act 3. And yes, the respec cost is outrageous. I made some sub-optimal choices early on, and now I have to decide if optimizing my tree gets me more benefit than 30-40k gold. And the price goes up the longer I put it off.

I agree, the respec cost is brutal, especially early on. Once you hit the endgame i can imagine that amount of gold wouldn't make much of a dent but first time through the campaign on normal and cruel difficulty is way too much. We should be encouraged to try out new builds and play around with the passives. They said in the reveal 'Small amount of gold' lol. I'm in act 3 now and i've respec a few times here and there, its now nearly 900 gold to respec 1 point. If i want to change my build completely it would bankrupt me. Also im not sure if the price increase is tied to your level or increases each subsequent time?

Yea, I agree on the 'downsides' on nodes. Keep those to Keystone Passives and Uniques. And of all things to reduce, IAS? IAS is one of the biggest QoL stats in any ARPG, much like movement speed. Those should never be sacrificial lambs. And then everything else is spot on, too. I feel like loot acquisition and currency are simple fixes that they'll dial up - but they should do it sooner rather than later as people will start losing interest due to lack of upgrades + difficulty. ...kinda want the crafting bench and alterations back too, ngl. Runes just don't cut it when the only way to reasonably get good items is with regal/exalt slamming until maps when you can start getting essences and what not. *shrug*

Besides loot and balance adjustments, my biggest gripe is that deaths being so punishing when you have to stay mentally locked in the WHOLE time is crazy. Poe1 you lose focus for a sec and die who cares, blink back through the map and keep going. Poe2 campaign the whole thing resets and it’s back to crawling through a huge map backpedaling at packs that can leap over terrain and surround you

I feel like they took a half step towards Last Epochs crafting system and would like to see them adapt more of it. RNG can be fun and all, but being able to pick all your stats is nice if you have IRL low luck like me. I would like respec costs removed all together. It feels like an outdated idea like portal scrolls. I have a lot of ideas for builds i want to try, but the cost takes the fun away. Its still a great game though

I like the foundation, but right now the game definitely has some glaring issues. I think they need to make jeweler's orbs more common. Huge part of the fun is altering your skills but there's only so much you can do with 2 slots and you really don't want to experiment with your first jewelers. Also I hope they let you downgrade when cutting skill gems in the future. Edit: Lack of jewelers probably made most xbow users gravitate towards gas nades or galvanic&shockburst because those two archetypes deal good damage with just 2 support gems. Perhaps rest of the xbow kit can be salvaged with extra supports.

I was the same opinion about the loot while zdps slow crawling. Was a shitshow. Buuut as soon as you get the pace, just ramping up boss kills, getting rares faster. I found so extremely important to get +item rarity, try get 50%+ , grab all blue/rare from the floor and just vendor it. DO NOT sell bad rolled potentially good rares, keep em and use 3to1 exchange. Especially weapons/amu/ring. Its always better overlevel zone to make it simplier and faster

The group play mechanics need help too. The two biggest I found so far is 1.when you zone or port it rarely put you both in the same instance. The you have to port to your party member. 2. Loot is not dropped for you individually. Everyone can pick up everything. That can lead to one person picking up far more than the others. Just make everyone have their own loot drops.

I like your content but I find myself strongly disagreeing with some takes. Here are my two cents. 1) The few notables that have downsides are that way because the upsides are huge. You are underestimating the stun buildup about the example you gave, it's hard to gate and you can make a build revolve around that. That would be, for example, a shotgun stunner, who doesn't mind attack speed that much because most of the downtime comes from reloading. It's kind of like the 20% mana recoup, 20% reduced life regeneration rate: the downside makes it so that it's not universally good, while being absolutely great for MoM. I like this, I think these nodes are a breath of fresh air. We already have enough vanilla ones, let them add some spice to the tree. 2) You don't want to use a regal orb on any magic item that doesn't have two good mods. It's a waste of currency otherwise. This requires a new mindset: early crafting now revolves around getting good magic items. Rare items are a luxury, so be stingy with your regals, save your alchemy orbs for weapon upgrades and disenchant every rare. 3) The game gives you plenty of transmute and augment orbs. Regal and artificer orbs are the greatest pain point and force us to salvage/disenchant, but that's the main source of them. That being said, 10 rare items for a single regal orb is a little too much. It would be great if we could got 2 shards for a 5- mod rare and 3 for a 6-mod one. Thanks for the video!

Agree with all that you said. One thing that annoys me is if you die in a map and respawn at the waypoint is then getting gang raped as soon as you take a few steps away on a completely repopulated map. Half the time it seems that the mobs are greater in number and way more aggressive. Some credit on getting the map areas you clear before you die would be nice.

I’m a bit sad, i’ve been trying lightning spell bloodmage, but lightning spells seems so worthless.. single target is awfull and i really dont want to play cast on freeze comet like everyone else. But god i can’t go further because one boss in act3 just fucks me up and i have no currency to build defense or damage

Flat damage on weapons + more generic damage on tree makes it way easier and you don’t have to « specialize » in an element w/o trying all spells or attacks

As much as I want to fanboy and glaze GGG, I just can't... this game feels rough atm. The passive tree feels bad, the movement feels bad, the crafting feels bad, gear/gem progression feels bad, the massive zones feel bad.. I really can't see many positives atm other than it's a new ARPG, and the boss fights are somewhat fun (If you're not getting oneshot)..... Before the GGG mob comes attacking me, yeah I know it's a beta and they will "fix" it. I just can't help but feel disappointed with how it currently is, I was expecting a lot more polish and less Ruthless 2.0 People have figured out spamming Clearfell in Cruel difficulty and running up to/killing the unique mob above the waypoint then resetting is the best way to get items/gold. That just shows how bad the game state currently is. That is unacceptable.

Major PoE1 fanboy here as well. I dont understand why the 'PoE2 is amazing' camp cant take criticism. I was ultra excited to play PoE2 but yeah ive come to the conclusion that the game is not for me. I will just go back to PoE1. Hopefully they will keep resources to PoE1 because yeah i dont see this game working out longterm. Too many fundamental flaws in my opinion.

The movement is so unbelievably bad, how can they release even EA in this state. Im using click to move and when i cast spells it feels so clunky. Poe1 movement is snappy and inrcredibly reactive. Theres so many fundamental flaws that cant just get patched. The issue is that they made a game for console too, and pc had to take a hit cuz of this.

As mercenary who started with bolts, you are right - i transitioned to grenades because reloading just felt like shit. I love idea of shooting stuff, and i often play ranged characters like Mercenary in games like Grim Dawn etc. But the reloading mechanic for every ammo type just.... no.

IMO for the limitation with crafting currency and the lack of a way to scour items the game drops WAY too many magic items leaving me unable to realy do something with them. The options for re-rolling items needs to be a thing even if it is JUST a full scour. I have been using a pair of gloves I got start of Act 1 up until almost now end of Act 2 just because I couldnt get anything better. Basic crafting feels like it is only for the endgame now and not for campainging.

If they want us to do the pick up and craft on the go and progress type of play, they need to give us a more deterministic way to craft, since the game is punishing enough mechanically. I think a good improvement from POE 1 is to have a tier-floor restriction on item mods base on item level. Right now there's a ceiling to the highest tier mod you can roll base on iLvl; they introduce a tier floor as well so high iLvl gear is gonna give better mods on average by default.

I tried a minion build too. It absolutely sucks until about level 11 where you can get Summon Raging Spirits. After that, gem Firewall and Arsonist Skeletons and you'll mow down the end of Act 1 boss with reasonable ease if you're even vaguely overlevelled. For a game that supposedly excels at build diversity, Act 1 seems atrociously balanced unless you luck out on gear drops or have a very specific build.

I had no problems with normal mobs or bosses on a warrior but the ascendancy trials are driving me insane. You basically have to be super over leveled or just get a no hit run to get a chance with the boss. Very unbalanced.

The same feedback was given in Beta, and GGG ignored it all. These are all intentional decisions that the devs made, and this is how they want the game. I honestly do not see any major changes happening, unless the game ends up having less players then POE1, which I could honestly see happening within a few months. Also, its nice to see a youtuber/streamer being honest instead of sucking GGGs d*ck to get further early access content, etc. Ive actually lost respect for streamers like Raxxx and Ziz.

Been playing a glacial shot + fragmentation round build, no grenades. I think the issue with shooty builds is: 1. High apm, to do the combos you have to shoot, change rounds, shoot, change rounds.... Compared to just pressing 2 buttons to chuck 2 grenades. 2. There is a noticeable and annoying delay between switching rounds since you have to wait for the recovery animation of the first shot to finish before the rounds are switched. 3. To solve the clunk issue, investment into 2 stats, attack speed to reduce the animation recovery and reload speed to reduce reload for overall dps is needed. 4. Much harder to scale damage imo since unlike grenades which can quicky get 1 more grenade from the tree, then more grenades from a xbow implicit. Grenades also has much higher base damage than ammo skills since it has a cooldown. Most of the high damage from ammo skills come down to setup and payoff which are sometimes impractical on a boss and run into issues 1-3.

100% agree. The game feels amazing but I always feel just a bit behind the power curve at every turn. One item off, one currency drop or a little bit of gold behind being able to do the next thing. No dramatic increases just Slightly better loot and a little more gold/currency would solve almost all the issues imo

There should be a way to 'dismantle' and 'disenchant' items directly from the inventory instead of having to go back to town. That would fix my main issue. Constantly going back and forth to dismantle items is tedious. But you're forced to because you NEED that currency.

Remember, 90% of people alrdy puked at poe1 campaign length and the need of having it played, so obviously they'll adress that somehow. There is no shot they make you play through all of that every time.

I agree basically with all your points. I think the game has an incredible foundation (looks and sounds great, the monsters are amazing, skills are fun) but it just feels bad in this state. The meagre loot and immense zones are just disrespectful of player's time. I finished act 3 last night and right now I just don't have it in me to keep going.

Sanctum and Ultimatum ties to ascendancy is a definite fun killer - it's horribly bad. They are hated mechanics in POE1 for a reason. Making them mandatory is just like we are some big "F you" from GGG. Any mechanic that really needs a specific build to do it should have no role in the main campaign or levelling, leave it for the people who like sidegames

LE's crafting potential is awesome, mixing some RNG and deterministic work. It'd make too much sense to give us more control over crafting items but recognize each item has finite crafting potential.

Played merc as my first character. I used rapid shot because the only life regen I had was from life on monster hit, or whatever it's called. It was so bad. Whenever you start to shoot, it takes forever to get off the first shot. You could mitigate this somewhat by spamming shots to prevent it from going into cooldown, but then your movement speed crawled to a halt, and you also would drain your mana. Also, if you were a bit too fast activating the rapid shot, the game didn't recognize that you were holding down "left mouse", so your character would just stand there like an idiot and when you realized he wasn't going to shoot, you'd have to release and click again, making you wait for the cooldown AGAIN. Drove me insane. Switched to sorceress. Had a great time after that.

First time viewer, here from KZbin recommendation but I wanted to say this was the most level-headed criticism I have heard for POE2. I enjoy the difficulty with the game but I do find it extremely difficult at times. I think your observation about boss difficulty not inherently being the issue and rather the solution to the bossfight being prohibitive was fantastic insight and I fully agree. A ways into act two I started to find the boss fights a bit grating because they started taking SO long (like, 10 minutes for a fight) and most of the time the fights ended not because I died naturally but instead just because it widdled me out of flask charges. This came to a head on the final boss of act two. I knew I needed more damage but there was no reasonable way to obtain it, I couldn't build into another damage element because I would need to re-spec like 20 passive nodes and I didn't have the money for it. I also wasn't having luck in upgrading my crossbow, so I ended up at a bit of a standstill until my friends caught up and helped me with it. This situation kind of exhibits almost every criticism in the video. The cost of passive re-specs is too high, which roadblocked me. I didn't have enough modification resources dropped, which roadblocked me out of a better weapon and I wasn't getting particularly good weapons or equipment dropping, which made farming for weapons feel like tedium incarnate. This is genuinely helpful insight into understanding what I could just summarize as "the act two boss was too hard."

People don’t seem to understand. The reason why mods have much better waitings and items no longer roll a ton of mods (attack weapons no longer rolling defensive stats or spell mods) is *because* alts are out of the game. If you’re asking for alts, you’re also asking shit mod weighting and tons of dead mods. That’s what GGG will do if they give us alts back.

It's really number tuning at this point. The game itself is so much better than D4 is after an expansion, it's not even funny. I still prefer Last Epoch crafting and skill trees though, but PoE2 quickly becoming by prefered ARPG. Not sure I'll bother with PoE1, or maybe just attempt the Uber bosses once before moving completely over to PoE2. I guess they really wanted to make that Ruthless a reality, but it just doesn't work. People don't have that much patience, so they'll have to ease on it a little bit.

With the passive tree part. I can see why it's small amounts. They don't want Poe2 to be ZOOM ZOOM BRRRR like Poe1 was. I like the upside and downside, it really makes the choices more meaningful. -attack speed vs 40% more damage. I will attack slow but hit like a train. Which will make my gameplay slower, but more impactful. If we had Poe1 levels of speed, I think the game would feel more empty. We would be blasting zones, and granted, the zones are bigger. But the amount of zones per act is quite low when you look at it compared to Poe1. I think over the course of EA we are going to mold and shape this game in ways that will rival current POE. But it will be slower, perm ruthless, slower gameplay but it works out.

The power trough happened in act 3 for me. Gas nades went from clearing packs to doing only 40% after going to Viper's zone. And then on Viper herself, went from needing 3 solid hits from the previous boss to getting 1 shotted by her .5s telegraphed minion spear poke and not only that, she has the smollest hurtbox, jumps around while ignoring our collision boxes and has an hp bar that feels like it's 5x the previous boss. I get that she's an ancient Vaal heroine, but how come she gets to violate the collision box rules?

I don't mind slower paced combat, or lower power characters in general, but if you have Both of those things, you need some amount of sustain - you're going to take chip damage here and there and no one is perfect at dodge rolls (I'm not even good xD) - if someone can dodge roll and get a Significant advantage over me in combat - I'm okay with that, but if the alternative to being good at it is - 100% failure rate, I'm not okay with that. It's gatekeeping for the sake of gatekeeping at that point. Make a Very early non-optional boss absolutely dependent on dodge roll to beat fairly, to explain to players through doing - the best way to learn - this is something Important. But it being Early - and Only then - so you can grind and out-stat it and progress despite sucking. (maybe some uber endgame boss I can get a carry for :P but don't expect me to perform acts of dexterity in a game, I'm roleplaying as a dextrous character - because I in real life am not one. I am also terrible at casting fireball in real life, I shouldn't be punished in game for that.) At the moment, recoup feels too slow to matter, regen is too low numerically on gear and too sparse on the tree, and leech is almost exclusively for attack builds. Having a Small amount of leech on the tree would go a long way. Also it feels like they're hating on spellcasters for no reason xD Leech supports - both of them - physical attack damage only. First of all, why only phys? Second of all, why only attacks? o.O Herald buffs - trigger on - Attacks... or kills from attack hits... Damage supports - for attacks, casters get... aoe speed and cost reduction - if you don't use recommended supports and look for something remotely useful. The one damage support available is... damage but cannot crit. Have you seen the caster ascendancies? xD They're almost exclusively crit dependent. More crit chance, more crit damage, trigger on crit, better cooldown for the thing that triggers on crit, crits give you life drops... Attack builds get psuedo damage conversion, and on kill snowball/momentum style effects that feel amazing. Crit supports are hot garbage o.o - Only applies to hits on full life enemies, whenever you crit you lose the stacking crit chance buff, Less crit chance for more crit damage -.- Cmon. Give us a proper crit support xD I wanted to play a caster, but atm it feels very favorable to play melee so I'm in for it, may as well enjoy the game I'm hyped for right? :D Dear lord that first ascension on melee... You can absolutely force a good weapon, if you just farm gold and gamba, and find a decent modded magic item and regal, and grind for the quality currencies and get damage to at least feel okay - even on a caster build, barely. The deterministic results from scrapping and disenchanting items makes that experience - reliable, if slow. You will have a good time once you have a good weapon. It feels a lot like early game grinding for a 6l in poe OG formula. I see the potential, I see them cooking, I know that a lot of the skill disparity will be balance fixed, I know that we don't have all skills and all supports yet. I have hope. The game's Really freaking good. I think at the moment drops feel poor because people aren't killing things fast enough, and once you are it feels fine. But then you have currency and you Need to use it, and you don't have spare currency for trading, crafting has a Real cost - and trading with players has a Real cost, and honestly - that's a good thing. Once your build is sorted and upgrades become smaller, gambling to craft or trading with players won't be as important, and it'll feel like you're getting plenty of loot. There's definitely more friction than you'd expect, but that's just growing pains, it's a different economy, it's a different game, what you need and what you want aren't the same things, we'll adjust. Slightly more loot would be fine, not changing loot would be fine. DD doesn't have a way to reliably generate corpses... oof. There's no excuse for that. If you don't want the skill in PoE2 don't add it to begin with, don't make it functionally useless. They can add a desecrated ground or something, or just remove the gem entirely. I saw the numbers on it, looked fine, started leveling up my witch to start detonating and... nothing, there's literally nothing?! xD Either way I'd be 100% okay with, honestly, it doesn't Need to be a thing, they can swap it to some generic phys spell and I'd use that instead. Just make it a spell you can activate and hit a boss with.

The enemy variety and interactions are Mostly top tier all around. There's a few things like end of act 1 Phys DoT pools that have basically no way to interact with them that feels bad. There's no phys damage reduction, barely any regen, they deal a lot of damage and there's no resistance. The enemies that - lose a Freaking arm, and suddenly are no longer shield bearers, the giant metal plates that slam down on you and become obstacles, the spooky AF spiders sliding down that impossibly thin strong thread and Move like spiders... *shudders* Overall Game Mechanics - 11/10 The little side areas with loot, a room to rest and read some lore, bonus chests and urns and boxes with combat-free loot to reward you for exploration. There's one minor thing with Vine tilesets where visually it's unclear what you can walk on and what is walls. Overall - 11/10 The VFX, Accurate Brilliant Crisp - I could go on, They are almost perfect, Ice Nova for example completely covers ground degens, and if they weren't mechanically already an issue xD I might not have even noticed. Overall Visuals - 11/10 Combat, responsive, smooth controls, optionality in almost every regard - except dodge roll being the only functional movement ability, and being high skill cap, and high skill requirement on the low end, being essentially mandatory. There's a few hitbox issues that'll get ironed out, invisible mobs that haven't animated into the game environment yet blocking movement, getting pinned/mobbed and dodge roll doesn't let you engage or disengage. If there's no way to interact to save yourself just kill me instantly, don't additionally waste my time trying to fight my way out on top of killing me, we're not playing a Super Mario Maker troll level, we don't need anti-softlocks where your goal suddenly is to find a way to die so you can try again... Overall Combat - 9/10 It's better than PoE1 in a lot of ways, it's better than Diablo 3/4 in every way. There's a lot to love about the game and it's not even finished yet. It doesn't quite hit that nostalgic D2 vibe for me, because it's fundamentally a different game. Only the loot feels right in that regard. The crafting is the perfect combination of D2 gems/runes and Path of Exile affix crafting, I hope we see more in leagues after the game launches, but I also hope they are Very Very restrictive about what new crafting currencies go core after that league ends. I give it Cumulatively 42/40 GGG is the underpromise overdeliver. I expected my experience in EA to be maybe a 30/40. It's better than I hoped for, and it had problems I couldn't have worried about before experiencing them (other than dodge roll, I knew I'd hate that - there's a reason I was playing PoE1 and Wasn't playing Dark Souls, I prefer the PoE gameplay and playstyle... there's no reason to make your new game more like a game people who played your first game preferred your first game to) I am someone who enjoyed PoE for many years, Diablo 1 and Diablo 2, I'm old, if this game isn't for me, then I'd be extremely sad about that because I want it to be "for me". I want to spend my entertainment budget on MTX and private servers and buy PoE2 swag so when I got out with my wife to the theatre or out to karaoke with friends they know This Is My Game. and if it's beyond my physical limitations for that to be the case I'd be disappointed in myself and GGG. Supporting the company and the genre for as long as it's been a thing. So when you read my issues in the original comment understand where I'm coming from and don't think "I hope GGG disregards Everyone who thinks that and makes it even worse for that person." it's such a Rude and Disrespectful take I have no patience for. It's not an issue of I hate the game and want it to be easier, I'm happy with the difficulty. Dodge rolling being required doesn't increase the difficulty, it increases the Artificial difficulty. Like adding a few extra 0s to the life meter of a boss, makes the fight longer, but doesn't make the fight require more skill. It tests Endurance of players not their strategy. Testing real life endurance in a game like this isn't necessary, and neither is testing real life dexterity.

Regal rates seem to have been buffed but orb of transmutation are few. Why have so many augs drop if you need more transm. anyway? Am I supposed to grind for blue items? I'm in act 3 and basically locked between chaos trial and viper something and virtually no upgrades the whole act. So now I could switch to a cookie cutter build or grind until I hit good items in every slot...

Thank God you talked about alterations! I'm been saying this on every video i watch on KZbin and you're the first to mention it. We can't depend on rng for crafting when we basically only have one chance per item! We need alts so we can get good magic items. If you want us to rng for rare items then ok fine, but we need some good minimal gear!

Alteration spam -> white base spam There is no difference... only that the loot is way less in PoE2 Bosses drop only blue crap... rare chest drops white and/or 10 gold wtf The game is just tedious... you have to overlevel hard to push trough content most of the times if you get f*ked by rng with drops

My feedback is that the game needs little bit of balancing of power, little bit more regals, little bit more exalted orbs early on. Besides that I don't wany more loot, rare items feel great when you find them and they sell very well for multiple exalteds RN. I would hate if we had more loot on the ground cuz it would be all worthless the very same moment. They fixed rare items and everyone complains about that... It's just expectations are projected from poe1 where you HAD to have all the gear and max res to finish campaign. That's no longer needed IMO. Getting that high lvl base with 2 good mods is enough to replace your item. If we had few more regals that would change much early on in campaign, but not too many so that rares don't lose the value. Overall to me devs are smarter than players and 90% complains and things we feel are wrong, they need to be there for the game to be great and we just lack wider perspective to see it. Sure, small adjustments here and there but it's EA. Nothing big and definitely not something people ask on reddit. That would ruin the game. I think the difficulty was there cuz 99% of us are noobs. Whoever thinks he's not, he's just arrogant. Every minute spent the game gets easier, I'd make half the deads next campaign runthrough with knowledge I gained just in 2 days. Btw. blasting maps in party feels awesome! Find a group and enjoy your loot, cheers

Since Ruthless is unpopular in PoE1, i wonder why they are directing PoE2 in this way... They can't keep the game like this, and they know if from past experiences with bad leagues (with no-loot) in Poe1, so what are they testing here? No loot? bad No crafting bench (even a basic one for some resists and attributes)? bad Expensive af gold system for refound passives while we have no regret orbs and no refound passive skills from quests? bad Desenchanting and savaging for fractions of orbs? Bad even in PoE1, why they kept this system? Maps 3x bigger than in PoE1 with more dead ends than i can count, no phasing roll, no mobility skills and if you die the entire map respawns? Who are the genius behind this decision??? No alterations, scourings and blessing orbs? In a game where 1 item takes 10% of your inventory, they want us to be constantly picking bases from the ground to have one chance of hitting something useful with a single transmute + augment that in 99,9% of the time will hit 2 shitty mods? then what? we sell it to a vendor for the equivalent of 1/10 of a respec in gold? I'm lvl 73 and i'm still using a lv 50 crossbow cuz i can't craft a better one myself, i already spent all my currencies, about 200k gold in the random seller, i'm picking up/buying bases and reforging like crazy and still didn't hit a better one, turns out i accepted my fate and now i'm selling all my stuff like a crack smoker in order to buy a better crossbow from trade... PoE1 already had all these problems, and we now have the solutions for all of them, so why are they making the same mistakes in PoE2?

At a guess and trying to steelman this? It's to confirm that this isn't just 'the small player base we had' but the actual majority of people disliking it. They have a vision they clearly want to execute on, Ruthless. When it kept failing in PoE 1, they always had excuses for that. Here they've been able to craft the entire game to fit their intention of Ruthless from the ground up... and I don't think it will find more than a tiny niche audience. It's simply reality and they figured this 'fresh start' would 'let people give it a fair chance' or 'appeal to the more dark souls crowd' or some other rationalization. So they'll have that choice between purity of vision and making a broadly successful game once again. Frankly, they needed to keep PoE 2 their mass appeal game, and make a spin off to embrace that 'Ruthless' mentality, something on the scale the player base for it will support, because there is one there. It's just not nearly as large as the rest of the player base of PoE 1 and ARPG's in general.

@@Sorain1 the 'small player base' excuse they'd always trot out was because the "git gud" guys are loud and they believed that the "git gud" crowd was bigger than the rest of us, up until they started hemorrhaging players. they're still stuck in this stupid, stubborn cycle of placating themselves and the epeen dips, losing their ass, and then eventually just begrudgingly giving the paying customers what they want instead of the dumb "vision." it's needless, sophomoric mistakes that are just inexcusable after 5 or 6 years of behind-the-scenes dev, 2 delays and being under the tencent umbrella of companies.

A lot of things need to be ironed out; but the foundation is great. This is a team that was pushing hard to have a good early access and they still have 50% of the content in the oven - I'm sure closer to full launch we will get more and more quality of life fixes

One of the biggest problems is that they have POE 1 gear in a game where character builds are supposed to be more main lined. Maybe they should do a Diablo 4 and drop class specific loot.

Game is currently hindered by the lack of currency (alcs and regals specially) and since we're also not getting rare drops that makes for a terrible leveling experience. Yes i dont like ruthless and i really dont want POE2 to be it. Other than that i dont like the gem/skill system, always hoping for a tier level higher to get good link combos etc. I think if these were addressed the lack of speed in the game would be mitigated because you're killing faster.

If I’m going to be honest it feels like they are just holding us in place for the reason of there not being the whole game to play😅 so they need to make the game super hard to keep us playing and pad our game time to show of for the yearly quarter earnings for dec😂

I had a feeling that poe2 would be underwhelming and estimated it to sit at between 80% to 85% on steam.. currently it is at 82%. Once the people can admit to themselves that the game falls flat no the overhyped expectations and ggg doubling down on their ruthless vision, this might drop even more..

Could not have said it better, fully agree on every single point. Please take note GGG. You hit the nail in the head when you stated you actually need to able to get the tools to overcome a challange, the lack of currency (why is mid lvl orb so rare?) and too much rng and high costs to actually make a decent item. I’m sure they will tweak it at some point, at least I hope so.. because a challanging game shouldnt be challanging through rng / no tools but through cool design. Now it’s just frustrating. Besides those excellent points there are some huge bugs for controller players, like having to close the game if u die in act2 trial because u cant respawn. Very buggy skills/gem menu etc. Its only been a few days of EA so its to be expected though. Lets hope they take the feedback serious.
