My grandson saw my 61 Mech book. My son told him his granddad served in 61.mech. Excitedly the kid asked me whether I was a Hero. Just like the medic said in "Band of Brothers" I said no, 6:44 I was no Hero but I served Heros. After the battle of the Lomba where Hinds and Alves died, we were a surgical team sent to be by 61 Mech. Salute those men! Dr Georg Scharf.

Young Lady, as a veteran of the Border War and as a father of my own very special daughter, I commend you, not just for the beautiful melodies, but words that show a true understanding of the warriors who fought alongside me. We have been vilified, forgotten and passed over as relics of a system we just happened to be in, almost robbed of the pride in a brotherhood that was melded in fire, but no amount of bad press or political "jargonary" is strong enough to break that bond. Some have scars, physical or emotional, that have molded our lives and affected our loved ones, and this you grasp, almost as though you had personal insight into our darkness. You have done your Dad proud, and solidified his (and to a degree ours) Legacy. We Salute you!

I was born in 1991. My father and and both his brothers went to the border war. One of my uncles was a parabat. As I understand he was part of the first group that crossed the Border into Angola. Lately we’ve been in contact and he’s been sharing stories with me of what happened and shared this song too. I have the utmost respect for each and every soldier who fought for the future of their country and their people. And I respect you for painting an honest picture with your beautiful voice. RIP Lt A.H. Hind and all the brave soldiers who paid the ultimate price. You are not forgotten

Hello Sharon, do I understand correctly that Lieutenant Adrian Hind is your father? I was in Angola in operation Modular on the day he was killed in the battle, like so many other days spent in operation modular, in Angola, the day that it happened is most certainly forever etched in my mind. Your song is beautifully and touchingly sung, it touched my heart deeply and filled my eyes with tears. God bless you young lady!!!

Sharon, .... my heartfelt appreciation and sincerest thanks. I did two tours and lost my brother on an army camp. I am an old man now where your words resonate of a time that was so very profound. The lyrics are a poignant reminder as I left SA after the YES vote and after signing up with Gen Viljoen which was treason as I was an officer. From rural Ontario in Canada... my sincerest thanks and appreciation.

Beautiful adaptation Sharon. I salute you and your brave Dad. I served in 1 Para Btn and spent a year on the border in '84. Have never been able to shake the memories of that time which are etched forever in my psyche. Last month, 40 years after the fact, I went back for the first time as a civvy. I thought it would bring me some closure, but nostalgia is a cruel and deceitful mistress. It takes you back to the place, but not to the experiences and the people. It leaves you colder and lonelier than before you attempted to go back. One can never go back. I feel more disconnected now than I did before. The little PTSD I have, I believe is as result of the longing for my army mates, the comeraderie we enjoyed, the innocence and youth we shared, brought to an abrupt and profound end. That separation has left a great void in my heart. I can only hope and pray that all my brothers in arms have come to faith in Christ, as I have, so that our reunion hereafter will be joyfully sweet❤
