Lovely corset. Are you using clothing eyelets or scrapbooking ones. And how well do the scrapbooking eyelets hold up over time?
@LomisPlayground5 жыл бұрын
I use scrapbooking eyelets. They don't seem to be any different from clothing eyelets, they've lasted me years without issues and the only times I've had them pull out are when they aren't set well to begin with. The Crop-a-dile tool I use to set them now works a lot better than the hammered setting tool for that, too easy to squish them otherwise. I'd like to go to using eyelets with washers, though, just because I think they give a cleaner presentation!

Oh boy. I decided to make the UNDERBUST corset... I cut lining and material out and sewed it all together - lining and material, two pieces. And thought I had extra back piece of each fabric, so tossed into the bin. Then I sewed the sides together making a tube, turned inside out and sewed the top edge, then turned Right side out... Now I have this lovely tube, all pressed... And then I'm sitting there wondering how does this thing get on the doll and stay put? So here I am...lol...will fetch the "extra" pieces from the bin, add them on and proceed as directed in this video. 😆😐🤨😆

Thank you for the tutorials! Can't wait to make this. 2 questions: will this fit a minifee and what size eyelets do you use? Thanks!
@LomisPlayground2 жыл бұрын
This corset is for 1/3 dolls, so it's much too large for Minifee. However, I have a corset pattern for 1/4 dolls in my archive (under the 1/4 section on this page: www.ithilear.com/sewing-patterns-for-ball-jointed-dolls.html ) that does fit minifee. :D It is assembled the same way, so you can follow the same tutorial. I use 5/16" scrapbooking eyelets, I get them in the paper crafts section of Michaels or Hobby Lobby here. Hope that helps!

Well you can use just about anything to poke holes for them to go in, I used to use a knitting needle to make holes. A lot of eyelet kits come with a setting tool as well, so you don't really need anything fancy :) Fancy just makes it faster!

The corset is beautiful and so is your doll, but I know it's kinda rude to ask how much things cost, but how much did the the supplies/materials cost you?
@LomisPlayground5 жыл бұрын
Oh my ^^; I'm actually not really sure. I'm trying to see if I can remember. Most of my sewing projects use stuff I've had stockpiled for a long time. I used to work as a supervisor at a Michaels arts and crafts store, which was across the street from a Hancock Fabrics, so I collected tons of supplies on clearance through the years and now rarely need to buy new materials. I do know most of the fabrics I use are only between $5 and $7 per yard when I catch them on sale, but I mostly buy remnants, which are discounted further--so most of my fabric pieces are maybe $2 or $3. Ribbons I usually pay between 25 cents and $2 for a spool; same for lace, though I do remember for sure that the black lace I used on this came from eBay and was 77 cents. I remember because it was such an arbitrary number. LOL. I think the most expensive thing is the eyelets, which are usually about $4 or $5 a pack, but of course, I got them back when I had an employee discount. :)
@shelbysawyer63526 жыл бұрын
It is so beautiful! But why didn't you sew the bias tape from the inside first? Then you can machine sew it from the front and only have one line of visible stitching on the front and save your hands a bit of work.
@LomisPlayground6 жыл бұрын
Well... I realize this will probably sound insanely nit-picky of me LOL I considered doing that, but the none of the purple thread I had on hand was a good match for the bias tape! I felt like it stood out too much and thought it might compete with the gold trim, so sewing it without visible stitching seemed like the better way to go. :)

How do you begin to draft the pattern for a corset?
@LomisPlayground6 жыл бұрын
I like to make corset patterns with draping, wrapping the doll's body with fabric and pinning where I need it to be sewn. It can be done with measurements, but I find it's much more complicated and takes a lot longer than draping patterns.

Does the pattern downloadable on your website have seam allowances included?
@LomisPlayground3 жыл бұрын
Yes it does ^^ Any time it's not included (I think there's only one or two patterns where the pieces were too large to include it) it will say directly on the piece itself. Otherwise, they all include them and are ready to sew.
@ellenjane41053 жыл бұрын
@@LomisPlayground That’s amazing! What is the seam allowance you use? 1/2 inch? Btw your KZbin channel and website are both absolutely wonderful resources! You obviously put a lot of thought, effort and creativity into them and I’m very grateful and impressed! 😍
@LomisPlayground3 жыл бұрын
@@ellenjane4105 I use 1/4 inch for my doll clothes, because it makes for much tighter, bulk-free curves without trimming, and that way it aligns with the edge of most standard sewing machine feet, so it's easy to see exactly where you need to be if guides get covered up. ^^ It takes a minute to get used to it, but it's plenty to keep the edges from sucking into most machines. Thank you so much for your kind words!

why bjd clothes are way cheaper compared to over priced clothes of 1/6 tbleague body?
@LomisPlayground3 жыл бұрын
The smaller the clothes, the harder they are to sew. It's much, MUCH harder to sew in 1:6 scale than 1:3, just like it's harder to sew in 1:3 scale than it is to sew human-sized clothing, which is less expensive than doll clothes! So the price is set based on difficulty + extra time and attention needed for good results + special equipment needed to make tiny things + expertise of the person making the product :)

Would this pattern work on smart doll??
@LomisPlayground6 жыл бұрын
I think it would be close, but would require a few adjustments because while they are the same height, the Smart Doll is a little more slender. If you are able to reduce the width to 85% while leaving the height at 100% it would be much closer to fitting :)
