People give Lomography a hard time, but they are one of the few companies making film and still trying new things. In a few years, they might be the only ones left making film. They even make 110.

I really enjoy Lomography film, if it’s a reasonable price and the colours are pleasing, then I’ll always use it. I think with the current climate and companies looking for any excuse to discontinue film stocks, I think more now than ever that the community really needs to quit complaining which film is better and support all manufactures so we can all enjoy film for many years to come.

I love Lomo 400 film. I've been using it for years. The word from the people who worked in the Lomography Shop on 8th Street (no longer there, but there's one in Brooklyn), back about 10 years ago - is that Lomo 400 is repackaged Kodacolor Gold. Thanks for your videos - I always enjoy them!

It is Kodak Ultramax. Good that we have still access to it. The caveat with rebranding other people's emulsions is the uncertainty of continuity. Adox, Rollei who regularly rebrand other people's old emulsions, and all of a sudden it becomes unavailable, are prime examples of this folly.

I do wonder if certain film manufacturers/suppliers purposely keep supplies short. It seems to be the colour film suppliers that do this, including Kodak, Lomography and Cinestill. Black and white film is always available from people like Ilford and Fomopan. I guess it's the supply and demand curve: high demand plus low supply equals HIGH PRICES.
@ribsy3 жыл бұрын
I doubt it. There is so much demand regardless of the supply. If they could make more, I bet they would

I started shooting Lomography as it was the only colour film that my local photography store had in stock and I found I loved it. You can also get it in 800 iso which is great. The colours are awesome and unique. Personally, my favourite films are Fuji but sadly it seems that they are discontinuing all of their films. It definitely makes a nice change to always shooting Kodak Colour films. It's definitely similar to Kodak films but it's a lot cheaper. I think if all the colour films disappear Ilford won't be going anywhere! :)

Ayo I was under the impression that lomo 100 is the old Kodak Gold 100 emulsion (I've shot both and that tracks), lomo 400 is again the old Kodak Gold 400 ultra repackaged, and lomo 800 is Kodak disposable camera film repackaged. If so, it's a great way to access older emulsions without shelling out for expired film.

I haven't had a chance to compare it to Ultramax, but ayyy I really like Lomo 400! Very nice colors and a nice popping in film look. A few times I did have to digitally reduce a slight green tint but that may have been the lab's scanner tbh. I really like using it in general. Only had like 3 rolls shot with it thus far, but have ordered some more as well as the coveted 800. I do wish it were a touch cheaper here in Canada and came in packs of 5 but hey (35mm seems especially pricey but still cheaper than Portra albeit not by much). My one slight detrimental experience with it was when it snapped in my camera at the end of the roll, but thankfully it was easily recovered and nothing of value was lost (and it was probably my fault somehow anyway). Great vid as always!

It's a stock that's just known as "Kodak Color Negative 400". Similarly, there are also Kodak CN 100, 200, and 800 film stocks. These are likely older generations of Gold or similar, and they were found in many disposable cameras back in the day. You can actually figure this out by decoding the DX Code on the film strip (the barcodes below the frames). Basically, if you were a company that wanted to sell disposable cameras back in the day, you could go to Kodak and they would provide you with those stocks as options to put in those disposables. They still make them, and Lomography sells those under their brand as normal Color Negative films. It's just a shame they can't seem to make solid 120 rolls, a lot of people have light leak problems with them.
