Beautiful Lompoc! A shame the residents tear it down; it really is a beautiful place off the beaten path. Like any city, it has its problems, but Lompoc is beautifully located with a charm all its own (don't let the residents fool you; most are open and welcoming and all have their favorite parts and 'secret locations' of Lompoc they'd love to share!).

Does anyone know what happened to the drive in cinema? I had no idea Lompoc existed until I saw a photo of the DIC from the 50's and 60's heyday, on the BBC website, and it piqued my interest.

I remember going to the drive in. Pretty sure it's a junk/recycling center now. I moved away in 1992, but still visit family often.

I believe it closed down in '97. The structure is still there (although it is looking rough these days). There was a movement to restore the drive in but the owners of the property shut it down. The same goes for the old Lompoc Theater that seems to have been slated for reconstruction but stalled.

It closed down almost 30 years ago. It’s owned by a guy name Christopher King and he tried to open it up several years ago but it didn’t work, it’s where the recycling center is now, I drive past it almost every single day.
