I grew up in Lompoc from 1982-1992. I miss the La Prisma Mission as it was the one thing I use to travel on bicycle a lot, just to relax and enjoy. I hope it's still thriving to this day.

my first job ever was at Alfies...it was so fun and Jack with his daughter Coleen did their best to wrangle us idiot teenagers working there. To this day I remember a lot of what they taught me. Great people....the Sewall's have kept up the tradition and then some making it thiers but not forgetting what made the place great and a fixture in town for decades. They moved to a bigger location recently which is great!! The food is to the very same exacting standards as Jack insisted from day one. I remember his first rule to us kids "...if you burn my fryers...i'm gonna cook you in it!!..." hahaha, drove home the idea we had a responsibility to those we worked for... Some of the best food in town and not fast food...good honest food instead.

My family lived in Lompoc when Dad was assigned to VAFB. In '65 we moved to Houston where Dad was hired by a NASA contractor for the Apollo program. Years later when Google Earth appeared with street view I looked up our old address and thought about how nice it would be to visit our old home. I called the local PD to ask them about my old neighborhood. They told me much has changed since I lived there and it would be best if I relied on memories instead of going there in person. I asked the officer how bad my old neighborhood has declined. He said 40% of all calls they get are for that area. Drug related crimes are the most prevalent as is homicides and home invasions. He said when the demographics changed so did the neighborhood. It became a 'hood in the late '70s and early '80s. Hard to believe that a very nice middle class neighborhood became an stinking and overflowing toilet in a few years. With street view our old home is run down, broken cars parked in the yard and trash everywhere. I'm glad I decided I wont visit. Like the man said you can never go back.

@@TheTaleofCities ok so it's the "...I'm know you are but what am I..." mantra making the horrible decline in this city and people OK? Hmmm, so many ways this could be applied to poor actors in this city. Rampant meth users and river bed full of 'labs" again making it totally NOT SAFE to walk in the river bed. They view any homeless or those who live differently but are fine as criminals all making or using drugs. This is a very small minded and corrupt town. Good people don't participate and the others have long ago bailed....I've lived here since 1969 and have seen it's decline. What a shame from what we had...thank Santa Barbara county for using Lompoc as it's dumping grounds...making it truly the place in California where "...the sewer meets the sea..."
