I searched KZbin a long time to even find the name of this type of elastic. I envisioned that it would be the most comfy solution for the waist of a caftan-like knit dress I am making, but I had no idea how to sew it into the garment. Thank you for your very clear instructions.

Thank you for taking time to send along a nice comment. Be sure to WASH your garments with elastic. Hanging and not being washed for a year dehydrated the elastic and it crumbles.

Thanks, this is awesome. I have been trying to figure out the best way to sew a waistband on a pair of competitive boxing shorts. This is the closest I have found to the right technique (which I wasn't doing, btw). Thanks again!

Thank you for this excellent video. I am replacing the elastic in a pair of my mother’s pants. You had some great points to consider while sewing the elastic. I loved the tips of butting the elastic as well as balancing the seam. It just makes sense. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this video. I've been searching and searching for a good elastic waistband tutorial and I finally found it. Also- THANK YOU for explaining why you're using the stitch length you're using. That's huge to me, I'm always asking about that and no one seems to ever answer. I'm absolutely subscribing. Thanks again!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Finally a video with clear concise instructions that benefit both the novice and professional. I’ve tried so many times before and my sport elastic always looked messy and amateurish, at best.you have a special gift when presenting an instructional video. I followed your technique and my lacrosse shorts looked professionally sewn when finished. I followed your technique and instantly became an instant follower of your channel. Thank you, Londa! You are incredible!

Turning 72 the end of this month, I'm likely closing down my 'business' of selling my books, DVDs, and notions and going only to commissioned upcycle pieces and teaching here in my home studio and via videos. For now - check out my website for a few more weeks at: www.londas-sewing.com SHOP at Close-outs! I bet you'd enjoy my DVDs

Amazing video! Thank you! My sewn elastic waists have never looked professional, and I was looking for a tutorial to teach me how and sew them more professionally. I can’t wait to try your method. I love all the tips, but especially the tip about sewing down near the fold so the elastic has something to ride up against. It makes perfect sense. I’m planing to make a few elastic waist skirts for summer and excited to perfect this technique!

You can use a bobkin to put elastic through. There’s 2 types. One that has a hole then another that grabs the elastic and holds it and you pull through. Both work well.
@londasews
@londasews 2 жыл бұрын
That's true. My experience is that this elastic is 'soft' and many bodkins will tear up the end/pull through. That's why I use a large safety pin, woven in several times as I show. As I always say - learn all you can, then do what works for YOU.

Great video. I have been searching how to make this exact waistband every where! I am making a chiffon skirt for my daughter with 2 layers of tulle underneath. Would following this technique for the chiffon and then attaching the tulle over the channel work or baste all 3 layers and sew together into the the channel be better?

Do you need the stretchy thread in top and bottom for the elastic band. What is the thread? Thankyou
@londasews
@londasews Жыл бұрын
No - I've just used regular sewing thread, 100% polyester, in the top and the bottom. However, do note that I say a longer than normal stitch length - at least 3.0 I believe....

You are saying use a longer stitch than regular for sewing this elastic? You make it look so easy I can not sew straight.
@londasews
@londasews 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, use a longer stitch - like 3.5 or 4.0. The secret to straight stitching is watching a GUIDE, not the needle. In this video, note the quilt guide I utilize. Good luck!
@londasews
@londasews 5 жыл бұрын
Yes - use a longer stitch. Every time your needle goes through elastic it will affect it, so longer stitches mean less times through the elastic. Use a stitching guide as I show to stitch straight - keep your eye on the guide, NOT the needle!
