This is what the London I came to for work from Ireland in the 80's still looks like in my mind. Was like another world from small village I'm originally from. Hard work, good people by and large and great craic.

Finally some Soho footage of A781 TYO. The only LFB SS to be fitted with wailer sirens rather than two tones and the only one currently in preservation. EDIT: A781 TYO is currently the only fully restored LFB SS, however the North East Emergency Vehicle Society are currently restoring NYV 705Y and NYV 729Y using parts from NYV 700Y. 700 is intact but is not in a great way so she is being broken to help get 705+729, which are both in much better nick, to pristine condition. Also interesting, in this, A781 TYO is the pump ladder with A795 TYO as the pump, as I assumed it was throughout the late 80s and very early 90s. In your other Soho videos, mind, 795 is the pump ladder with 781 nowhere to be seen despite the fact she was the Soho PL in 1987 and at least into the mid 90s, so maybe she was in the workshop on the days you'd filmed the station, where 795 had been 'promoted' or however you describe it.

Give the mate who put you up to this a high five for me will you? Love the roar of the V8 mixed with the siren. I grew up with Aussie built Internationals with petrol V8s roaring with a loud siren, so this is so relatable.

Thanks for posting. As featured in the first Londons Burning episodes. This was the London I remember , having worked in the Big Smoke for a short while. Later , lugging heavy Army & personal kit , from Aldershot - Waterloo , then to Kings Cross , via the tube , then home. Good job we were Para fit , often the only way back up was the lenghty flights of stairs.

I remember the part time fire stations in the uk back then. I remember out playing in the street and hearing the air raid siren. Blasted for around two minutes before lowering down and fading out.

@@Charlzey1998 I was lucky enough to buy a camera that took full sized E180 VHS tapes. So unlike the small video 8 system, i never had to copy my films off onto larger tapes. That kept the quality up, and transfering to DVD didn't loose any quality either!

@@paxundpeace9970 ...... yeah but on the shit Scania platform - to go with the shit Mercedes platforms that the pumps are built on. Today only Volvo come anywhere *close to the Dennis, Shelvoke & Drewry, and Dodge chassis that LFB’s extensive fleet was built on. Largely these were purpose-built fire appliances - tough, capable and reliable, and not badly-converted HGVs by mediocre fire appliance bodybuilder firms. *And when I say, “anywhere close to”, I’m being generous!
