With respect to your frustrations and fears, I think we need to question this catastrophising: Look at London's history - we have been in constant flux demographically since before the Romans and our culture has successfully absorbed and indeed developed in response to a win diversity of influences. I would argue that the ongoing enlightenment project is always responding in evolution. I stand firmly therefore against reactionary knee jerk lurches in any 'ideological direction. We function best when responsive and strong not reactive and divided. Having said this we definitely need to act on the extremists and encourage moderate muslims to wrest their communities back from the brink - the alternative is not pretty and plays into the hands of hard line 'Caliphate' jihadis. The history of the muslim issue is decades long and the responsibility of all 'wings' of politics i.e. Thatcher weakened our communities severely in economic/industrial terms whilst backing the syphoning of public money into faith based schools as policy. We must separate all religion from the functions of contemporary secular state. The French have been brave on this and will effectively absorb the immigrant culture eventually (they are making the better decisions, though sometimes tough). A strong community and culture tends to absorb and naturalise incomers - a weak and fragmented cult of the individual, masquerading as bleary eyed flag waving does not - there really is such thing as society - it is the basis of human evolution and is based on good manners (the ability to compromise and respect each other in day to day negotiation as individuals and as a nation). As a teenager in the late seventies and early eighties I can confirm that we were winning the integration battle (via in part, popular culture - punk and the two tone movement) this included muslim friends - and then the divisive state 'faith' schooling took hold and along with the destruction of industrial communities, wrecked our 'bottom up' culture of unity and progress. Medieval religions whether the Church of Rome (by which I mean any denomination not merely catholic) or the Mohammedan religion, or whatever should have no influence over the reasonable and rational conduct of state infrastructure and policy. Where extreme variants or readings of ancient texts do begin to interfere, we should have robust laws to curb that overweening influence, freedom of speech notwithstanding. Whom does all this divide and rule really serve. The myth of a leftist conspiracy does not wash with me. All political parties today are in thrall to the machinations of transnational corporations (particular the wreckers UKIP and the post-brexit government) who care not a jot for national unity or identity except where it can increase their bosses strangle hold on the market in any country (or lead to national economic failure which profits the stock market manipulators via short selling). Ask yourselves this: how is brexit working out for you?

I am also an immigrant from the Philippines living in the UK for three years now. I have always made sure to follow all the laws, respect the culture, and assimilate with the people.
