Terrific video. I used to train spot along the line betweem Leigh-on-Sea and Shoeburyness in the 1950s. There were still a couple of the old LT&S 4-4-0Ts around in the mid 1950s but most of the motive power was 2-6-4t engines, standard and Fairburn class 4s and all of the Stanier 3 cylinder engines (37 in total). I travelled to work from Southend East to the City of London in 1961 and 1962, when steam was replaced by EMUs. Happy days.

Thanks so much the Pinnock bros for such brilliant filming. I have memories of walking with my parents and two younger bros between Leigh and Chalkwell one year before the end of steam. This we did on a few more occasions but the trains were electric units. We travelled in from Walthamstow change at Barking, but our very first visit was by through train from St Pancreas to Southend and return. All that finished after the end of steam.I remember us getting off at Blackhorse Rd and noticing our loco was a 4F. I was all of 8 years old. Happy days indeed. Thanks again to the Pinnocks.

Great video! As a Plaistow kid, had a few trips to Sarfend behind 2-6-4Ts from Barking. Also remember my nose pressed up against the District Line window as we passed Plaistow Shed!

My mum used to leave me in Southend central while she went shopping. No one seemed to mind and I was happy as Larry

My uncle was a driver on this line based at shoeburyness in the 50’s driving that class of loco took me down to see them I’ve got the steam bug ever since. Sadly he had an accident at shoebury sheds which finished his working career

I travelled this route quite a few times on the C2C when I visited the UK in 2017. Its strange to see the same sights with the steam trains that ran this route for so many years before electification.

I used to use these trains from Grays to Fenchurch St in the 1950s. They used to say the train was the only good thing to come out of Grays

It might be a tank engine but it's pretty big and powerful-looking.

I thought, a steam train did many tours on the LT&S line between 1962 and 1999. If that's not true then I shouldn't be that surprised because a lot of us know that the year 1999 answers all the questions.

Hello Robin. Sorry been having an issue with logging in. Do you know why they didn't run the Kettles top and tail? Great vid btw :)

Thanks ! ; I don't know why they were run seperately, but it created double the video oppotunities!
