It’s amazing the 1992 stock are not seen as well built however they have lasted as long as the 1962 tube stock did, 30 years.

Oh, it was definitely a time! But part of London's charm has been its seedy, slightly scummy charm. I know this might upset some people, but it's all part of the deal. London is grimy, New York is grimy, hell even Sydney is grimy. It adds another layer of sensory excellence to the whole.

The central line before the 1992 stocks was proberly the most decrepid and dirty line since the bakerloo and piccadilly had been modernising for 20 years, the sub surface lines were well maintained and the victoria and Jubilee were built modern, while the central and northern were old and worn out

Redbridge, Gants Hill and Wanstead stations on the Central line, is the short tunnel section just below the surface in roofed up trenches or deep underground?

From memory they are true underground stations (track is in tunnels) and not subways (cut and cover track just below surface).
