5:44 a motorman actually bothering to use the Westinghouse! Most Met drivers in my A-stock days never touched it and seemed frightened of it. I practiced it to the point where I found I was using it instead of the EP without even realising. It became a challenge to try and drive all the way to Aldgate in the evening peak without using the EP (and no cheating with "partial releases" either!). Given how many places require successive brake-applications, this was a tall order. :-) . Also, nice to see how Ruislip Gardens and West Ruislip used to look. They had changed a lot even by the time I went to work there 10 years later - I think they changed more between 1994 and 2004 than in the 15 years since! (Crikey, I must have been on the job for 15 years!)

With the long view camera lens it looks as though the trains are rising from the bowels of the earth, just to visit Stratford before disappearing down the other end. It was quite a climb up, as I recall, although no problem for electric units. Great nostalgia!

Were these 1962 units always painted silver, or did they start off red? I'm sure I remember some red ones in the early 60s on the Piccadilly line, but maybe they were '38 stock, or maybe I'm just misremembering.

The Picc had 15 trains of 38 stock until approx 1975 when the first 73 stock arrived and replaced them. Before the 59's (new to Picc) and 62s arrived both lines had red painted Standard Stock trains.

Both Guard & driver are at fualt, the driver should changed the headlights over to tail lights but before each trip the Guard should check that his/her train had red lights showing at the rear. Now it's OPO it's down to the Operator to check before changing ends that reds are on the rear.

Yes, the Central Line pops up above ground here for cross platform interchange with main line services, the steep decent helps get back up to line speed.

I do wonder why do Central line trains come out from the tunnel at Stratford but then descend back underground when leaving?
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus4 жыл бұрын
For cross platform inter-change with BR services!
@holidaymoviecompany3 жыл бұрын
But that wouldn't explain why so many BR stations have deep level tube connections. The reason is more likely from a geological or engineering point of view why it does this, plus it would have been cheaper than having to build escalators, etc to the surface.
@oludotunjohnshowemimo4343 жыл бұрын
I see. So because Stratford is above ground, better and cheaper for Central line trains to tunnel out to provide cross platform interchange with British Rail.

@@kinkisharyocoasters Not a lot, the drivers desk layout was changed from a 38 stock style to an A60 stock style. The Duplex Gauge was move upwards and the MG Indicator moved across to where the stabling light was so that moved to the other side of the marker lights.
