I'm sure you already know this, John, but one of the main reasons why there are so many people at the Horse Guards is because of your videos. Before I found your channel, I had no idea we could go in the yard. You do a good job connecting us with the horses and the process of guard changes, etc. People just want to be a part of it.

@LondonCityWalks Hey John, you asked what those purple things are in the corner right behind the gate. They are 3 dead weights, usually made from cast iron. Typical used in theater as counterweights for the tracks and flybars, and/or to uphold scenery, but can be used for whatever else of course, like a weight to hold a tent inplace (in case of windy conditions). There are 2 knobs/dimples on top and 2 holes on the bottom, so you can safely stack them without them sliding off eachother. These are big ones, usually weighing around 12 Kg per piece. The smaller ones are usually around 6 Kg.

Watched a video by London Chronicles and low and behold, there you were! It was the one where the horse was acting up and had to be removed. You were there with the couple from NZ, Cooper's Fish House (?) and you were going to take their picture for them when they had to move because of the horse's actions. GTSY John!

I know this is from last month, but I thought then and think now, that the police should tell the tourists that the lane marked by those lines is for the horses to walk into the box! And the guards should be told to send the horses to that lane, instead of making room for the tourists. That couple seconds when the two horses pause would show the people where the horse on that side will walk. Then they’d move back on their own. Or/and paint a big stencil of a horse in that lane.

Very simple if a tourist doesn’t move behind the white line it is for safety reasons then they should be escorted out. If tourist argue then leave period. What happened to the police that use to be there? This new group are not effective at all. The group of officers that were their before were on it and enforced the rules took no nonsense. I miss the female officer. Finally one officer spoke up! My goodness!

Tbf 2:21 those idiots in the clear rain coats at the front were pushing people back that had been waiting behind the line and were doing what they should be whilst the rain coat idiots were walking at the front. Instead of walking to the back like they should have been made to the rain coat idiots expected others who were behind the line to get back for them? People who are waiting behind the line early shouldnt move back for idiots who are not standing behind the line in time. The people not standing behind the line should be told to walk to the back.

Incredible. They used to have one sign, warning that horses may bite or kick. Then they had to add "Don't touch the reins", THEN, "Don't touch the horse". Yet, all these adults continued to behave so badly the white line was needed. What's next? An electrified fence?

I've recently watched a short video of Horseguards from 1997. No signs, no bollards, no white lines anywhere. Tourists and school children milling everywhere during the dismount. No mobile phone cameras but still some people having photos taken and touching the horses. Plenty of tourons.🤭

When you first walked into the yard. The young boy was asking the police different things about her uniform and pointing to different areas. He then went to point and just touch the gun. He didn’t grab it like you said. The mother as well as the police just told him don’t touch. The boy was just curious and didn’t know any better. A simple mistake and I hope the parents would have explained it better to him later on Why Not to touch a gun.

@pennywinstanley . Of course they don't send them to the abattoir , the horses retire to The Horse Trust in Buckinghamshire or to suitable private individuals , sometimes ex Troopers . If you look up The Horse Trust there are many photos and videos of retired Cavalry and Police horses .
