@@TaraVixen I wondered what had happened to her. She had the art of upsetting every horse and guard. She made it appear she was part of the proceedings. She would pull at the reins and when remonstrated with had this maniacal laugh. I did see her on her site which was very vitriolic, but it seems to have disappeared, it certainly wasn’t the jolly, happy , I’m everybody’s friend, that she appears. Not the person I would like as a friend.

Thank you so much for capturing the events and for expert narration. As a horse owner my self, I understand that the rider is trying their best to not let the horse “win”. Also, horses can get a bit excited on cold days particularly in the mornings. However, the horse has not stopped chewing on and bracing against the bit since it came on duty. She has been trying to get away from the bit the entire time. She tried at least twice to rear up. I truly think there is something wrong with the horse’s mouth, the bit, or both. Hopefully the groom, the rider and/or the vet will do a complete assessment of the horse and the equipment. My heart goes out to the horse and the rider. They will both need a long calming break after all of this.

Yes. Horrendous to see. So many people watching & approaching, yet no one was sufficiently observant to see the horse very obviously had a problem with the bit & needed it out of his mouth pronto. The one guy who had to re-fenegle the reins made me wonder if the bit was also messed up by whoever dressed the horse. Can't get the staff these days.

I agree, something is wrong with the bit/bridle. It almost sounds like the bit is clicking on her teeth, so something is not right. Either her teeth need done, or the bridle is not the right size or something like that. You can see that the guard has very soft hands. As soon as she stands still for a moment, the reign is loose and it is obviously still bothering her.

We had horses. One neighbour gave the stallions one apple a day over the fence. One day we arrived he was IN the Paddock showing guests our stallions. We just ran with forks and shovels... 🙈 He could not believe that the stallion attacked him. Common sense... never go near to a stallion on his own paddock.

Agreed! Some people are so stupid about the proper handling of horses and what constitutes abuse. It's stunning sometimes. One particular thing is some of these horses appear to have roller bits, while commenters are going on about the horse is hurting, and it's abuse, when the horse is actually enjoying the roller bit because it's bored or nervous. I've explained it so many times that I should keep that info all typed up and ready to paste into my comment.

A curb bit can feel very uncomfortable in a horse's mouth if the curb chain is attached incorrectly and causes the bit to pinch down on the bars in the mouth. In the worst cases, the corners of the horse's mouth can get caught between the chain and the bit.

Expertly handled by the Trooper , and the gate man coming out to assist for safety . The collar / tether chain had come unclipped at the beginning which is what the Trooper in camo was fixing , It's not part of the reins but clipped to the back of the noseband used when horses need to be attached to a line back in the day . Not surprised it's a mare , a feisty lady . As usual great commentary John thanks xxx

Indeed- they're MILITARY, for Heaven's sake. Wish they had an "exclusion" zone for the protection of both horsies ( John :) ) and the daft tourists. The agitations always appear on that one side, which is where the majority of tourists congregate. The horsies ( John :) ) can feel the vibrations but not understand them...and feel uneasy or even threatened. Lovely commentary by John... my American kids laugh when I call them "horsies" so it's an extra delight to hear Johns clear affection for those splendid creatures... :)

A huge shoutout to the very well trained guard who so masterfully handled a very unhappy horse who was determined to not go to work today! The young trooper had only one hand and his legs to handle a rearing, bucking and kicking horse (yes I saw him kick 3 times)! Bravo, sir, we’ll done! Very disappointed that senior staff didn’t bring the trooper in to change horses for the rest of his duty!! One of the silly tourists could have been seriously hurt all the while clicking their silly phones for a photo op!! You would think most folks would know to move far away when a misbehaving horse is in their vicinity!! Even while holding their children’s small hands or the prom, they just stand there and watch, some laughing!! Kudo’s to the trooper…staff who didn’t remove the horse, not so much!! Support these young men and women doing their utmost in a very trying situation!! Thank you for your service to King and country to each of the troopers serving!! Yeah, as an old American cowgirl, I can see that this horse is done. He now has it in his head to leave. I know you can’t let them get away with this stuff or they will do it again. But SOMETIMES, when it does get too dangerous you have to end it. I only did that once, and I regretted it. The problem horse got worse each time until I figured out a solution.

I have horses for over 20 years and the more I listen to what they tell me the harder they will do their best for me. People are so ignorant when it comes to horses--the Royal Guard horses are huge and very powerful. Sometimes they just wake up on the wrong side of the stall; they're not robots. And sometimes they spook for reasons we can't see or hear so best to stay out of their way at all times. They WILL run you over.
