John generally I believe they sleep on straw and eat hay. I googled it, "Straw is a readily available and inexpensive forage with low nutritional value, making it ideal for horses on an energy-restricted diet. Replacing up to 1/4th of your horse's hay with dust-free straw can promote weight loss, improve insulin regulation, extend feeding time and reduce stereotypic behaviours." Hope that helps great video.

The no touch policy has already resulted in much less stress and anxiety in the horses. They are standing quietly and not tossing their heads and pinning ears. It is much safer for the troupers, horses and public. I believe these videos are probably now being monitored by the Horse Guards and the comments are opening constructive review inside. I also believe the no touch policy preserves the dignity of the job of these troupers, both human and horse. They are working military, on duty, not Disneyland costumed characters.

I'm so glad that they've introduced a ban on touching the horses. Like most fans of Horseguards, I love the glorious Ormonde, and his quirky, loveable nature. However in recent months I watched him really closely and felt so bad for him. People were approaching him on both flanks, behaviour which he really hates, and the poor horse was driven crazy, thrashing his head from side to side. That was it for me, it was no longer funny and I felt it actually bordered on cruelty. Of course Ormonde was not the only horse who suffered from these behaviours and so am absolutely delighted with the new rules and very happy that the Military have adopted this policy. Hopefully now we'll have happy Troopers on happy horses and I wish them all a happy, safe, relaxing summer. 😊

Thankfully the Guard has STOPPED the mauling of their horses. I sit in my home watching (other side of the pond) and would yell at the fools just there to maul the horses. Maybe the horses would bite BECAUSE they did not want to have some random stranger laying their hands on them. I don't like strangers coming around me and putting their hands on me & my property so I can certainly understand that these horses don't like it either. I saw several times when the horse would pull away but the "human" :)) did not get the message.

For another sign, they might have to use a universal pictogram symbol for don't-touch-the-horse, much as we see universal symbols in international settings. They really need those signs on both sides of each horse. If approach gated side they don’t have any warning at all. I’m sure reading a sign is the farthest thing in their minds. Everyone have a Great, Grand and Glorious Day. Stay safe and God Bless Everyone❣️ 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

Good morning, John. It's Tuesday around 10:30am here in Maryland USA. KZbin just posted your part two! So I thought I'd sit back with breakfast & enjoy another London walk with you.😉💜 BTW, it's suppose to reach 98°F here.

I missed it! I was too busy typing a response to the new rule when it played. Grabbing hay; horsey normality!

Amazing how well the new signs work. When just "reins" people didn't seem to either understand English or thought they'd get away with it. Now....😂🙂

Would they be on high alert because of the terrorist bomb attacks in Paris, plus that last tourist getting bit, maybe they don't want to take any chances anymore

Yes! The more shouting the better, everybody understands a loud voice.

What will Ormond do? No one can touch him.

Ormond needs his own “Come Closer,Please” sign. 🤣🤣

The sign doesn’t say the horse can’t touch the tourists! Ormonde has been practicing his viper like strikes for weeks so I think he had inside info on the ban 😂😂😂😂

Agree with you about two signs. If one trooper shouted out loudly “don’t touch the horse” the crowd couldn’t claim ignorance, no matter your native language. Thanks for a great video. Only 86F in the Bronx today 🥵feels like 90F. 🇺🇸🇬🇧

@@John-G delayed reply, sorry. Think that if the trooper shouted loud enough the individual would realize that he/she had committed some infraction and that, in turn, would cause onlookers to be aware of the situation. Hopefully the new signage will help. Depends also on the many tour guides pointing out the new signage and interpreting for their group.

@@John-G Agree. Visual signage IS more effective. In the mean time it's a wait and see situation as far as the signage goess.

John they make neck coolers, has a gel inside, keep it in the freezer, works great! I'm in Texas, need it here, for sure

Have a good evening John! 😀 Agree~ 2 sign each box. Maybe an awning above boxes for shade heatwave / weather protection.

It's a 300+year-old building. Every nail or screw knocked into the walls causes some damage. The weather then makes every tiny bit of damage a little bit more extensive. English Heritage will have had to have given permission for the existing signs to be placed where they are.

Thank goodness at last! Poor horse. It's bad enough for we humans when something's stuck in your teeth and you can't get it out - but at least we have fingers to pick and probe. Ooh...someone didn't do a proper check before coming on duty, did they? LOL!
