I live in a small town and I know what you mean. It can be very depressing. I live in Manchester by the Sea, Massachusetts. There's actually a movie with the same name that was filmed here. It's a nice little summer beach town but at the same time it's kinda depressing if you live here and aren't a tourist. It's just the same narrow minded people doing the same things every day. Same routine. Nothing ever changes here. Sometimes I dream about running away to LA or somewhere.

This song hit my ears tonight in the grocery store and took me back to the days of alt rock in the 80's. Back when the artists wrote their own music and sang about what they cared about. They put their emotions, hearts and souls into their music and I loved it. Lucky for me, there was an independent alt rock radio station just north of Cincinnati where I live. Called 97X The Future of Rock and Roll - WOXY in Oxford Ohio. Found all this greatness and never looked back!

Ironic how a beautifully sad piece of music, no matter one's orientation, can bring back memories of halcyon days during 80's-90's club life. RIP Steve Bronski.

This was a number 1 hit in the Netherlands and I played it a lot as a DJ and also danced to it. I don't understand why many people comment whether they are straight or gay, what difference does that make? You're human and you enjoy this song and that's what it's all about. 😉

I grew up listening to this and slowly over time I learned why it meant so much to me. I eventually went through an 80's moment in the early-00's when I was in my teens, and it's always just kinda kept coming back into my life. What a tragically beautiful song. I think on some level everyone can relate.
