There was a ridiculous boring and turgid bloat of 'Britpop' bands at the time of the release of 'Rafis' Revenge'. Thankfully most didn't survive, and really didn't deserve to. This song and album absolutely stand the test of time.

Masterpiece. And it still sounds fresh 25 years later. The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, The Arctic Monkeys, even Lily Allen and grime owe a lot to these guys. Greetings from Brazil.

Went to a large pro-diversity event in Brussels back in 2013. Lots of booths, and, of course, musical acts. Asian Dub Foundation were the surprise final stage act. They performed this as the last song. Such a memorable evening.

There was no internet for me when this came out. Small town 1990s Ireland. Read about them in NME got the local store to order the album in. Blew my mind. It was as mind expanding and as politically educating as Public Enemy and The Manics. But with way fucking better beats. Definitely my pathway from shit like punk to the sounds of jungle and dub. Recently discovered a band called Black Star Liner - check em, fellow travelers of the Asian dub! 🙏
@badwolf91003 жыл бұрын
Fuckin fair play. I was fortunate to be in London at the time and had the privilege to see these and talk to them on a few occasions. Don't want to patronise you,but if you ain't heard more of their stuff check them out,especially free satpal ramm. Much love

Haha, same here, heard them in small town Ireland, early 2000's. My hip mum used to play them on the CD player in our car, blew my tiny 8 year old mind, loved them ever since, saw them every time I got a chance to pre-covid

Ha yet another Irishish (half) person in the comments who loved this ol' chune!!♡ (aw engulfed by huge wave of nostalgia) This is old but was totally different back in the day and was to make many happy being a powerful change to a plethora of white lad bands. I love Asian stuff in general, introduced my son to legend Ravi Shankar only yesterday and have been loving the vimanas in the Mahabharata lately. This song was a nudge to discover and love more about all different amazing cultures in our beautiful mysterious blue marble and have fun too.

All "Rafi's Revenge" album songs from ADF are a rock hit. That drum'n'bass percussions with the asian flutes and clever (sometimes political) rap was clearly a powerful and original mix back in the day. I remembered it mixed with the Cannes' winner french movie "La Haine" ("Hate") although I found that it wasn't part of its OST.

The vocalist Deeder Zaman was just a 19 yr old kid in this video and is brother to Sam Zaman one of the pioneer of Asian underground music in the 90s. Lot of people don't know but Timbaland stole his tune "Hunters" for his biggest hit "Get my Freak On".
