Absolutely the best Sat AM cartoon made!! professional radio actors did the voices, the tension building orchestration kept the story thrilling. And that artwork complete with action shots and some pretty durn scary life-death experiences. A masterpiece.

Seeing classic western characters, Tonto and the Ranger, fighting a technologically advanced super villain is just amazing. Thank you, '60s!

I vaguely remember these on Saturday morning back in 1966 and '67. But watching them now as an adult, I can appreciate the style of artwork used, very comicbook-like with heavy lines and shadows. The animation and colors was limited but the characters are all excellently drawn and when they're riding on horseback fast, it really flows great! This is probably my favorite episode of the series. The stories and the artwork is really well done. One other person described this as an animated version of 'The Wild, Wild, West' with various villains having mechanical machines and such. Fun to watch!

"Jonny Quest" creator Alex Toth said that until the advent of "Batman: The Animated Series", this was the best cartoon ever made for TV.

The Ranger's knowledge of electrical engineering (as evidenced by his remark about "short circuiting the electro-condenser") shows that he was a well-educated man, most likely including at least a year or two in college.

IIRC, in the Lone Ranger's backstory, he had been to college in the Eastern US before returning to Texas and joining his older brother as a Texas Ranger. Thus, it would stand to reason that he would have at least some knowledge of science and engineering, including, in this case, electricity. Edison and Westinghouse were both doing research in the practical use of electricity during the 1870's and 1880's, so Volta's murderous devices would have been technically plausible at the time depicted by this story.

Once again that timeless question:"Who did the voice of this guest villain?" Sounds a little like Alan Reed the voice of Fred Flintstone?....

I think Voltar's voice was supplied by Henry Corden.

@John Pulaski, I'll have to go with Barry Grauman on this one that it is indeed Henry Corden. If you put the face to the voice and watch his five appearances on Hogan's Heroes, you'll hear Volta's voice hiding in there, especially where he plays Colonel Klink's old acquaintance, the Blue Baron! It's funny that you mentioned Alan Reed, as Corden took over the voice of Fred Flintstone since Reed's death in 1977. Checking Internet Movie Database, it's incredible to see how many incarnations of The Flintstones there have been in movies, TV shows, video games, commercials etc. One last unusual note; a quote of the sort that we don't usually hear - sentimental and humorous: "My big hobby is my family. That's it. I don't know how long I've got to go, and whatever time I have, I want to get the pleasure of my children, of my grandchildren and of my wonderful, wonderful wife. We walk down the street hand in hand and people look at us, this old bastard and this good-looking chick. We get smiles all over the place. That's enough for me...THAT'S my hobby." Henry Corden
