i love jerry, but william needs more of the vocal duties, this song is fucking epic!
@devinmichaelroberts99546 жыл бұрын
Yup, it's gotten worse on the new album. They essentially just use William live and on the albums he's a backup singer. A lot of people do not know but one of the main reasons that Layne stepped away from AIC wasn't because of his addiction at first, it was actually because Jerry and the label kept pressuring Layne to let Jerry become lead singer and lead more of the singles and Layne wouldn't stand for it. He didn't think Jerry was a good singer at all. I remember reading that in an article in the 90's.
@devinmichaelroberts99546 жыл бұрын
Of coruse if you read recent interviews Cantrell tries spinning it as the opposite that it was Layne who got him to start singing more but if you read press from the actual time period it was clear that the label and Jerry found Layne unreliable and for fear of him quitting the band they wanted Jerry to take over lead vocals so the band could survive Layne quitting. Layne resisted
@padawansound64236 жыл бұрын
I agree with you - one of the reasons I was reluctant to enjoy new AIC was because I'm actually not a big fan of Jerry's voice. He's good at backing vocals, but on lead duties he sounds a bit weak. His voice doesn't have the same edge as Layne/Duvall's. I'd actually be way more into AIC new stuff if Will sang more.

Everyone's thinking it, I'm just saying it- Alice in Chains needs more William Duvall fronted songs. He strikes that perfect balance of sounding like classic Alice in chains albeit avoiding sounding like a Layne clone just like Brian Johnson avoided being a clone of Bon Scott but kept a perfect balance between still retaining the original sound all the while having his own signature on it.
