My dad was a truck driver when I was a kid. I remember when this song first came out, my mom dad and I all cried when we heard it. He has passed away since then. I miss him so much, it feels almost like he's over the road again and I'm just waiting for him to come home :( He was the best dad a daughter could ever have asked for and I thank God that I had his love and guidence for 21 years. We'll meet again one day dad

This song is so beautiful to me. Interestingly, the chorus actually reminds me of those who have crossed over to the Spirit world and are still all around us in the sunshine in our hair, and in the shadow on the ground. It is a reminder they still watch over and whisper to us through our memory and eternal connection to them. Beautiful for those yearning for an eternal connection to those they love with all their heart. carolyn

Same. It's a beautiful song but I always thought it would make more sense if the man had passed away. And she has a dream in which she asks him "when will I see you again?" And he replies ..I'm already there.. in spirit. In the sunshine..wind...etc But the way the song is now, he's not in the wind or sunshine, he's just a trucker at work. Will be home tomorrow.

Catch some fish for your daddy and maybe throw a couple back and let them live for him too, unless…he’d be like “are you crazy? You waited this long to go fishing , you better keep those fish” ❤️

kerri m I am so sorry for your loss. Your beloved husband IS watching you. It will get easier as time passes, some people mourn longer than others, that's ok, and it is good for the soul. He is in your heart and around you in spirit, and as long as you feel his presence, you will be protected. He is your guardian angel. I am a Paranormal Investigator, here in Las Vegas, Nevada, and believe in the afterlife 100% I have been grabbed by an apparition, who left finger impressions on my upper arm. Anyway, I love Lonestar and saw them in concert, here in Las Vegas NV. I lost my x-husband to esophageal cancer a few years ago, even though he was remarried, it was a shock to me. I never had a chance to say goodbye to my High School boyfriend/husband.

I would always rush up to the door when I heard him come home and gave him a hug and told him I missed him. When this song came out it was the perfect one for us. It fit us perfectly . To this day, this song is one of my favorites. It reminds me of when I was young kid in the 80s and my father's company sent him to help manage one of their centers for a few months before they officially transferred him. As young kids, it was hard for my sibling and I to understand why our father was gone so long. However, those phone calls meant everything to us....though so much more to my Mother I'm sure. During the 18 months I wasn't able to see my parents during Covid, I was reminded again of how much hearing my parents voice over the phone can mean so much. This song will always hold a spot in my heart.

Great monster hit from the summer of 2001! It's really hit me recently how much I miss this kind of heartfelt/family friendly country from the late 90s and early 2000s. Sadly, it's so rare to hear any mainstream country song that mentions kids or having a family these days. Now most of it's all about picking up girls in bars, partying, getting drunk, or angry breakup songs. I miss the more mature, heartfelt songs of the 90s and early 2000s that had more beautiful melodies.

this is one of those very rare, very true, and very relevant songs. it truly describe the pain and hurt of the soldiers, widows, and sons who have lost someone.
