I really don't like ratcheting drivers. I've tried but fot the usual reasons, I've always been disappointed.

@lonestarmopars Ай бұрын
I tend to be a fixed driver person myself. Not ratcheting and not multibit, just a dedicated driver. However, in certain situations it is nice to have a multibit vs carrying a zillion drivers. Similarly, some fastening tasks, especially repetitive, are nice to have a ratcheting driver.

I've got both of these drivers..PB SWISS makes awesome tools ☝️ The coin driver works on Dzus fasteners really well too..

Yep, they are very solid options. I think they would be better appreciated if more people were aware of them. Outside of tool fanatics, or just people who are very particular, they aren't very well known.

I think that coin driver is the longer one as the shorter version has a stubby handle.

I bet the coin driver would be good for opening switch gear and large air handler units.

I have the PB Swiss Swiss grip ratcheting driver in your video here, the insider ratcheting driver, and the Snap On soft grip ratcheting driver in standard and stubby as well as the Snap On hard handle pistol grip ratcheting driver. I MUCH prefer the soft grip of the PB Swiss and Snap On to their hard handle versions (insider and pistol grip respectively). I love them all, but the edge goes to the Snap On. The handle is better, being a little bigger and tri-lobe which for me is the ideal shape. The shanks are interchangeable which is a great feature to have. The ratcheting mechanism has finer teeth on the Snap On and less back drag. The Snap On stubby ratcheting driver is smaller overall and more of stubby. That said, I don't use either professionally day in day out. I love all of them, and the PB Swiss has better fit and finish. I use the PB Swiss more, however, even though the edge goes to Snap On in my opinion. If I didn't have the Snap On ones, I'd still be perfectly happy with the PB Swiss.

Great info! I might just have the Snap-on locked up behind the 10k subscriber mark, lol. I have several tools where I can deem one superior to the competition, but still use the less impressive for some reason. Comfort usually plays a big factor in that. Have you tried Rolgear, or the adaptations by Hazet and Gedore? Either way, you've got a very solid setup!

@@lonestarmopars I have not, but I just looked into them. It looks like Rolgear licensed the design to Oplast and Oplast makes them for many others, including Gedore and Hazet. Appears to use a clutch mechanism instead of gears. Apparently PB Swiss used to make a gearless ratcheting screwdriver years ago but no longer does. For ~$30 I'll pick up one of the Rolgear drivers. Thanks for costing me money.🤣

I have all four ratcheting drivers from PB Swiss (the red SwissGrip handles, not the insider stuff) and I always reach from them and my Vessel’s first. Im a former ratcheting screwdriver hater, but I’ve changed my opinion. PBS makes some of the best locked position driver out there.

Great info! Oddly enough, I don't believe I have a dedicated ratcheting driver from Vessel. I have had a few orders cancelled that were Japan spec powered drivers tho!

Great haul! I have the R-30 version and think it's great. The swissgrip is perfect, as is the tight lock-up/fitment. The only negative for me is that the backdrag is a little heavier than some other ratcheting drivers. Guess it's a trade-off by having such robust tolerances. Regardless, I reach for it quite a bit and enjoy using it. :)

Thanks! Yeah, it seems one would need to combine the best traits of a few ratcheting drivers to create the true ultimate...that said, most can settle in with something. Glad to hear your take on the PB Swiss!

Have you ever tried scrooz-on file handles? I've had awful luck with press fit handles. They come loose in a jiffy.
@lonestarmopars
@lonestarmopars Ай бұрын
I believe several of the handles at work are, or some similar design. I think Lutz is the OEM, but not 100%. You can add epoxy, or sometimes just heat the tang, or file handle a bit before installing. I think it may be brand specific as to what fits well and what is junk. It does suck when handles come off...

Did I say that? Must have misspoke. The stubby would match the profile of their stubby drivers, as you stated.

I’m a jeweler specializing in manufacturing and use files everyday all day. On the actual jewelry and in tooling for metal molds. I think anyone who doesn’t use a file handle is crazy lol. Love PB tools but never thought about checking out their file handles. I’ll have to check them out. Love the coin driver too. Looks super useful

Very cool! I've always respected pattern shops and mold makers/core boxes etc...It is something not many people see, or even think about. Also, pretty complex work and juxtaposed to what everyone sees and finishes out. I agree on the file handles...infinitely more enjoyable! They very well could have other colors available...I'd love to see the same lineup as the little magnets...that would let people like yourself color code everything. The coin driver is pretty cool...not many people make one.

@@lonestarmoparsit’s a lot of fun, former mechanic at a ford dealer for about 8 years. Highly enjoy this more. Building jewelry and mold making for 8-12 hour days is so much nicer then 8-12 hours of chasing down electrical nightmares lol. The tools are interesting too lol.

I have at least 20 ratcheting drivers. That PB Swiss is my favorite. The backdrag is the only bad thing about it. Everything else is perfect: handle, lockup, magnet, etc. I always come back to this because it's least likely to leave the bit in screws because it has the strongest magnet out of any. For context, my other 2 fav ratcheting screwdrivers are Snapon soft grip and LTT.
@lonestarmopars
@lonestarmopars Ай бұрын
That is a pretty good top 3. I've never used the LTT. Do you have a Gedore/Hazet Silent Gear (Rolgear)?
@slayerment
@slayerment Ай бұрын
@@lonestarmopars yeah I have both. I love how they feel but the ratchet slips all the time on the Gedore and even on the Hazet under higher torque. The Gedore would be great if it didn't slip. Great handle.
