PB Swiss Twister vs Insider: Ratcheting Screwdriver Face-off!

This is a review and comparison of the PB Swiss twister 8510r-100 and insider 6510r-100 (spez) ratcheting screwdrivers. PB Swiss hand tools are made and manufactured in Switzerland, the bits are also manufactured in Switzerland.

3:10 The plasma coating is for identification: flathead are black, Phillips are yellow, PoziDriv are green, Torx are blue, hex are purple. Those colors are also used on the end caps of Swiss grip screwdrivers. (On those, gray is for nut drivers.)

Wera bitsafe 61 would fit well with the red one. 60 good bits in a compact case that also fits longer 2 inch bits as well

PB swiss is an addicting brand. Once you get one and realize there are levels of quality still out there that you wont get from a big box store. I have these 2 also and also prefer the feel of the swiss grip but its also nice to have bits on the ready inside the handle. I really think the carousel feature that is in the stubby could be adopted to the swiss grip 8510r 100 making it the perfect screwdriver. Would Just be nice to have room to carry some bits with the swiss grip.

32 tooth? How’s the back drag? I deal with a lot of small screws that don’t have a lot of resistance… no bit storage is your fav??? How do you use your screwdriver? Work? Daily driver? Around the house? thx for the video. Subbed

Honestly the back drag on the PB Swiss is kinda high. (And this hunch of mine was recently confirmed by another tool review channel, Project Farm, which compared the LTT driver to a bunch of others including PB Swiss. He found that the PB Swiss blows the rest out of the water in terms of precision - no slop - and quality, but back drag was significantly higher than most.) I do mostly electronics stuff, and thus mostly small machine screws (M5 and smaller, mostly M3) and I pretty much can’t use the ratcheting at all, since the back drag practically always exceeds the holding torque of the screw. I think it’d work well for larger screws, in wood, etc. But for electronics/computer stuff, it’s not ideal. My favorite for those things are both sizes of the iFixit drivers. They’re not ratcheting, but they have ball-bearing end caps that work absolutely magnificently.

Plumber and have the insider. It's been awesome. Still doesn't replace a good set of actual screwdrivers because of the shaft diameter but for 90% of stuff it's the go to or the stubby I carry at all times.

That's the insider 3 series, you can tell by the shape of the plastic near the bit holder. I like the feel of the swiss grip material too, but if I'm having to apply enough torque that it comes into play, I'm not sure I'd want to be using a ratcheting screwdriver.

@@htr5372 I replied to this, but I think it was autodeleted because included some links. The naming is confusing and inconsistent. PBSwiss also calls the Insider 2 "Insider Pro" on some of their pages. I don't really have any idea what the actual difference is in features or quality between the 2 and the 3, if any, or if it6's just a newer but equivalent design.

I just found out about PB Swiss a few weeks ago and got their stubby screwdriver to check out the quality. HOLY heck, this thing is so well made and the bit storage at the bottom feels so solid. I was hoping to get the ratcheting screwdriver with a similar bit storage, but I returned it....1) I liked how the red handle feels much more than the black handle, and 2) I'm curious why weren't they able to copy the stubby screwdriver's style of bit storage. It's so much better (I'm still new to PB Swiss so maybe they made the stubby screwdriver after?)

@@htr5372 It’s the other way around: the knurling was removed (many years ago, sometime before 2010). You know how on the current ones, the shaft steps down about an inch from the base? On the older ones, it didn’t step down, staying the larger diameter all the way to the tip. Then they eliminated the knurling but left the single-size shaft. And then they slimmed down the shaft.

I have the shorter version of the red one. I wish bits went deeper into the screwdriver… longer ones wobble too much. But my big problem is balance. The front of this thing is so much heavier than the back, that it makes it awkward to use. I want to try the black one… I’m thinking that the bits might even out the weight.

It's not $40 more for the 10 bits, it's $40 more for the bit *storage*, for the convenience of not needing to also carry around an entire bit set when you go to use the thing.

@@htr5372 Hello, bro, I received my pb 8510R screwdriver which feels much better than wera, but I found that the sound made by its ratchet when it rotated was a little strange. The sound of rotating for a week was inconsistent and the sound of rotation in different directions was also different. I don't know if this is a quality problem. Have you encountered this situation? Tbh it looks kinda boring. I’m strictly talking looks here, it looks plastic and slippery. It’s doesn’t look like it would be nice to touch tactile wise. Also proprietary bits is puts me off as well. Moreover I don’t really like the twist mechanism to rotate direction, when using this type I somehow manage to change direction during operation - not all the time but sometimes. If was in the market for a ratcheting screwdriver. I think it would be the PB 6510 R-100

I clicked and my KZbin app was already open as I was commenting the other vid. The text box never left and was still open. man, as much as handle quality is nice, this is a bit-holder screwdriver. It needs bits nearby all the time or you may as well have a standard screwdriver. I can appreciate your pick, but the 8510 is useless to me when I'm doing work with a bit-holder (which I likely chose because multiple bits are needed for the task in a tight space) That's the only reason for a bit-holder, bit swapping convenience. I just think you have the wrong perspective unless all you want to do is touch it and rub it with a diaper, then 8510 all day. Also their bits are way better than you give credit and because of that I believe justifies the price difference.
