Thank you so much for your videos, I left school almost 10 years ago and have recently found myself having to try and re teach myself math again for a math exam for work, I have completely forgotten everything it seems from division to fractions to decimals etc. Your videos the last 2 days have literally helped me so much. Thank you!!

Excellent Josh!! The way you showed the steps as they were being applied toward the long division method and how you apply those steps to each number respectively was just so simply helpful. I was familiar with the short cut way but not the long way showing all workings out as you go. Great explanation of both for my 9 year old Son as we get ready for his SAT’s 👍🏽

Thanks! I was able to do this in 5th grade, but since it's been 24 years since then, I really needed the refreshment, cause I don't want to always rely on calculators, I wanna be able to do it in my mind (I'm on a diet, so calories counting involves A LOT of math lol)

I also learned that you can tell real quick if a number is divisible by 3.....in your first example, you had 762 divided by 3. We the way to check of it IS divisible by three is this: take the 762 and add all three digits together, if the sum is a product of three, then you are good. So 7+6+2=15 and 3×5 is 15 so you are good to go! Also, after you subtract, the remaining number MUST be smaller the the number of times you are dividing. So in the first example, if you used 1 and subtracted 3 from 7, you would be left with 4 and 4 is bigger than 3, so you are wrong.

Huh, never seen the first style of writing things out long, in the UK I remember us skipping straight to the last version. First version might be easier for people that struggle with mental maths, as I did, wish they taught it Another thing we seemed to skip was dividing a large number by another large number (which was what I thought long division was??)

Use square paper when teaching children. Reason; you can’t deviate off line. It works wonders when doing decimals. Kids get it quicker & fully understand better. Put the decimal point in first. When subtracting, put a line under the two numbers being subtracted. It’s a simple pattern in their mind after a few practices. Hope this helps. Also, it looks much neater for the teacher marking it.

What does it mean when you say how many 3’s in 7 I still don’t know to this day
@UnravelSchool4 ай бұрын
what he meant was finding the number Y so that 3 times Y is closest to 7 but still smaller than 7. In this case Y = 2 as 3 * 2 = 6 < 7. I used to struggle with long division as a kid. So I made some videos to explain these concepts for my children.

Piss off and look at another video then instead of being ungrateful. You are a personification of the entitlement of people today. Turning your nose up at an educational video because you already understand its content, or at least claim to. Nobody cares that this video isn't news to you. They are watching it because they are rather in school and need to brush up on it or are coming back to it to brush up on it for their own reasons. Half of the people watching this video are school children, but look how sanctimonious you are bragging about how it's nothing new to you. You need to take a good hard look at your online image because you just sound arrogant.
