This is what made me fall in love with your channel in the first place. I was a hiker that had a dislike for photographers before I saw your videos. Seeing people with eyes glued to their cameras rather than appreciating where they were annoyed me so much - it felt like the selfie game oh so many people I know do - take a thousand pictures and youll end up with one good one that you can upload somewhere for appreciation. But you always seem to take only a select few pictures, but those which emphasize your appreciation of where you are, which adds another level to what I love about the outdoors and inspired me so much. So, thanks for that.

Wonderful video. This encapsulates all I love about landscape photography. Getting away from it all and focusing on one task. To get the shot you want. Nothing else matters except for the scene before you. The position of the clouds and getting that all important composition. Thank you for creating this video

Another teaching masterpiece Thomas. This is why your channel is my go to channel on KZbin. I struggle in Summer too....I live in Miami, which going outside is just not fun with the extreme tropical heat & humidity, and the looming prospect of tropical rains that make afterward worse than a steamy bathroom. Another great video Tom, I think the message you're sharing here is a very important point for landscape photography. Taking your time to not only think through what you're doing but to also enjoy the moment and what the outdoors have to offer is only going to improve your photography and ensure you enjoy the experience more. I know I've found vlogging my landscape photography a great way to help me slow down and be more considered in my approach. BTW, I also struggle in summer, the harsh light we get here in Australia reduces the opportunities to capture landscape images. During these times, I'll often visit the coast because as you said it provides many opportunities and I know there always something different to be discovered.
@Serenoj697 жыл бұрын
Yes....I realise that but good to be reminded of it. When I go out I tell myself regularly not to rush into things or constantly change position. Sometimes you have to, but it is better pick a spot and just wait for it to happen I think. And look with your eyes and suck in the landscape rather than looking at a screen or through an EVF all the time.
@Andrew_marr7 жыл бұрын
Taking the time to carefully consider the landscape and assess the conditions, so you choose the best of the compositions available will save you time down the track. You want to avoid running around trying to capture every composition being rushed for time and walking away with images that don't quite meant your vision. This is particularly true if your shooting locally like Thomas is, as you can always go back again!

I really like the message of this video. It really nicely captures the part of landscape photography that I enjoy the most -- finding a great subject, then waiting for that right moment to take a photo. It's not about chasing the light, but more about enjoying being out there, and producing some great images.

A great video, calming and the conveyance of information is a reward, thank you.Patience and time, the two forces that govern us all. Even us sports togs require to slow things down, sounds contradictive when shooting high speeds in sport photography and yet we still have to slow down to capture or hope to capture the essence or spirit of the shoot. Living ten yards from the water's edge here in Argyllshire is a blessing, what may seem quiet, peaceful to many is hell to others. Living in such places as the coast, or with mountains in your back yard, or wide fields of harvest, you can watch the weather as it moves and as it makes it way across the openness.
@nickswisher67597 жыл бұрын
Great images once again Thomas! I agree about patience, sometimes you have to spend a long time looking for a location, and other times you have to be patient with the lighting. Summer for me is one of the only times when I can take trips to other locations and sunrise and sunset can be more challenging but I try to make the most out of it.

Nicely done, Thomas. I also follow your friend Morten and so agree that slowing down is important. You both emphasis the importance of simply enjoying being outside and having the experience. Thank you for the constant inspiration and motivation Thomas. You've helped push me to finally getting out there and starting photography. It's something I've always wanted to do and just never have. I'm loving it and that's thanks to you but, I'm new to photography so I'm already struggling but it's summer and I live in the desert in Nevada. Most of what's around me is brown dirt and brown mountains. There isn't a whole lot of color and no coasts for me to run off too that are less than a 4-5hr drive. I'd love to find something to do during this time while I wait for things to start changing in the mountains around me. I'm sure I'll figure it out but thank you for the kick in the pants that I've needed!

Thank you for that reminder! As a photographer, I am impatient. I tend to overshoot everything and end up with a few good shots or just one good shot. I need to learn how to take my time and set up the composition and exposure like you do. Summer is also hard here in Michigan in the U.S. and living in Grand Rapids, about an hour away from Lake Michigan, it is still hard. Every place you go just seems to be jam packed with people unless you go a couple hours up north. But I am really excited for atumn that is coming up soon! Can't wait!

I really needed this Thomas - a calm quiet few minutes with a coffee, and to watch the cogs turn in your head. I must say though, for my personal taste, I think I'd have been happier with a shorter exposure - enough to smooth the water but retain more structure in the clouds. But, then again, I do more portraits than landscapes, so what do I know.

Winter is the struggle here in the Colorado Rockies, white and gray are your choices. Black and White is always an option of course, but can get repetitive. If we are lucky we will get a nice sunrise or set then it can be really special. Another excellent informative video Thomas, all too often I find myself frantically searching for numerous compositions at sunrise/ sunset rather than just slowing down. I always take the 10 stop filters with me now to do just that, slow the process and enjoy the moment...with an eye on the timer obviously. Summer is by far my least favourite photography season... I am too obssessed with the golden hours to avoid them, but it comes at a cost to my energy levels, which remain close to zero after a weekend of 0330am starts.
