Can't believe it continued after that first 30sec of bullying the interviewer 😜 But on a serious note (I thought about this after the interview, but may as well post it publicly in the comments), the way you deal with the setbacks, process them, and push on to the next challenge, is such a testament to your character. Sure, it's only triathlon, but I'm not sure many of us have any idea of what it's like to invest in one day for months at a time only to see hopes dashed continually by a problem you're already trying everything in your power to solve. Appreciate it's not where you want to be, but also think you should be proud of the way you're handling it.

Really appreciate the race recap. Can’t imagine how frustrating it is not only have a recurring injury but to know be able to identify the cause. Fingers crossed you can get to the bottom of it very soon.

Hey Ruth, just want to let you know how inspiring it is to see you keep smiling with all the setbacks you’ve had to experience this season. Best of luck going forward and keep pushing 💪

My hubby had a four year injury and went through 7 different pt. He's had a lot of success with frequency specific microcurrent (fsm). I know you've looked at everything. Hope something clicks, love following along and am cheering for you

Calf transplant in Turkey :-) Sounds like a real wellness retreat! Enjoy Ibiza Ruth, looking forward to your next race! And I loved the Vlog series!

You did so well for the swim and the ride and then had your best still to come with the run. Such a shame that the calf issue seems to be the one piece of the jigsaw that just needs a bit of jiggling to make it all fit together but with your tenacity i have no doubt that it will happen. Keep the faith Ruth.

OMG I’m totally with you on the chicanes and the traffic on the course, so frustrating getting stuck behind them on the descent!

So sorry when I saw you had to pull out so quickly :( was really nice to hear your story for the day. Maybe you can put a mic on the interviewer or maybe subtitle the questions as well because sometimes it was a bit hard to hear what he's saying. Enjoy your Ibiza time! ☀

So, so sorry that the calf problem reared it’s ugly head again after such a great performance in the swim and on the bike. I think you should be very proud of those two legs nonetheless. And thank you for your frank honesty in the interview. I can only imagine how hard it must be, but all of us who follow your journey on KZbin stand behind you!

Completing a full Ironman in the time you pros do is impressive in itself, very impressive in fact, but even more impressive is the determination it must surely take to pick yourself up from those races where things ended up not going to plan and continue to soldier on. Good luck on your Turkey project too 🤣

I know you said your biking does not impact your calf but is it possible the biking is setting your calf up to fail on the run?
@Reastle13 ай бұрын
It is possible but I’ve already looked into that. And usually my issues come off lower volume bike weeks and not when running off the bike

So so sorry for your DNF. To avoid overload, it worked for me to unload my calfs in all sports. Gentler push-offs in the pool. No toe flicking on the pedals. And no push-off/acceleration from the back of the stride. Calfs are not dimensioned for heavy loads, only for stabilisation. I found calf gym work to make it worse, because it made me draw even more power from them. I now aim to unload them, and dream of having slimmer calf muscles. It's a classic: make those powerful glutes do the work !!!😉

Seriously, I wonder if we should form a calf support group. I suffer the same mystery problem and I know others with the same affliction. You have soldiered on but it has stopped some of us in our tracks.

I was so hopefully for you, so sorry, like wise I mentioned before a friend of mine had a very toey pedal action with big calves and like you had plenty of running injuries. Perhaps have a look at your pedal action 😊

Can I just ask why you would expect another pro to ‘help’ you in a world champs race? Not an expert on triathlon but it’s an unfamiliar concept for me in professional sport that a competitor would be expected to adjust race tactics to help another athlete?
@Reastle13 ай бұрын
Wouldn’t necessarily ‘expect’ but you are much more likely to be able to ride faster and make up time if a few of you are willing to share the work.
@Trigirl14-j8r3 ай бұрын
Prob no need to drop names. Athletes obvs wanted to race their own race and it paid off for some. Also it’s not a bike race.
@Reastle13 ай бұрын
Why wouldn’t I share names? Would be pretty obvious to anyone tracking the race and it’s not anything I wouldn’t discuss with any of them after anyway. Giving my honest opinion of the race and how I felt in the moment. Having spoken to Nikki about it after there aren’t any hard feelings about it just trying to give an insight to how it feels at the time
