@natekeyes2297
@natekeyes2297 Жыл бұрын
How exactly was she a huge driver in this solved case? It's true she went on camera every chance she got, but that was her main contribution. If you read the book "Lost Girls" you find that Shannan spent a great deal of her childhood in foster care because her mother did not want her at home. Her mother was generally rejecting towards her. After Shannan's disappearance, her mother (Mari Gilbert) THEN began to act like a loving mother who was destroyed by her precious daughter's disappearance. She gave many, many interviews and was in front of a camera every chance she got, being very dramatic. She continually harassed Dr. Peter Hackett, a resident nearby the area Shannan disappeared, and insisted he was guilty. She continually insisted that Shannan was a victim of the Long Island Serial Killer, which turns out not to be the case. She also accused nearby residents in general of being involved in a conspiracy to murder Shannan or cover up Shannan's murder. She was murdered in 2016 by another one of her daughters.

Apparently Rex threw a pizza box into the trash with a few uneaten pieces of pizza crust inside. He was under surveillance at the time so the police were able to search his trash are retrieve the pizza box. Once someone throws something out in the trash the police can search for it without a warrant. Rex's DNA was on the pizza crust and the police were able to match it with hairs found on the victims.

*Let me explain* A narcissists with OCD (having things a certain way) will have a hard time winning a fight because they are typically people who plan I want to do a,b,c tomorrow and stick to it. However in the heat of the moment where you have to dodge a punch and be spontaneous, they will charge at the other guy but all attacks will land clean on the NPD. The only time a narcissists wins a fight is if you are a coward and coward at their mere size *or* you send them the previous day the amount of punches, combination and exact minutes in which you will throw your punches. Now where am I getting to you ask? He was never bullied as a child... just trust the process. He attempted to intimidate another child with size and being all up the kids face to get his way as he had always done to others and the kids run away in fear at big Ogre. However, one faithful day he tried the same tactic and the little guy took him up for his word. Engage him physically, made him look like a fool and the whole class laughed at him. Guess what the narcissists remembers from these events: I was always a nice kid when i was littel. however one day some guy (ken) got physical and beat me almost unprovoked, because I asked for something from him. Then the whole close proceeded to laugh at me and call me names for the rest of my years. Note: a narcissists POV is heavily corrupt and must always come out of every story as the good guy. He lived with this idea that he was bullied all through school, while in reality it was just his false self covering up events not to hurt his fragile ego that he couldn't have his way in school (they consider themselves literally God) Thank you reading.

Aside from feeling bad for the victims and their families, I feel bad for his wife and daughter. Imagine being his wife and discovering your husband is not only unfaithful and frequenting prostitutes, but was killing them and is a serial killer on top of it. Her trauma must be unimaginable. The guy is not only a serial killer but he's sadistic the way he terrorized the victims families. Heuermann is huge not only in height but weight, he dwarfs other men. The women he targeted were all extremely petite, from what I read they were between 4'10" and 4'11". Did he deliberately choose short women so he could easily overpower them and make it easier to kill them without a fight? He went to HS school with Billy Baldwin. I wonder if Billy has any interesting observations regarding him? I saw this guy in an interview prior to his arrest and he came across as bit of a jokester, a bit charismatic in a strange sort of way. A 25-year-old woman recently had a creepy encounter with him in the Gilgo park. She was so shaken by it she filed a police report. She's one of the fortunate ones who got away. 🧚‍♀

This is similar to Ted Bundy and his girlfriend and her daughter. For a long time the girlfriend refused to believe that Ted did it. He had convinced her that he had been framed. According to a movie that NetFlix made about Ted, the girlfriend went to visit Ted a few days before he was executed and she asked him if he did it. He told her he did. Rex's wife might have had suspicions about Rex, but making yourself believe something like that can be difficult. Ted's girlfriend had huge problems after all this. She became an alcoholic. The thing that surprises a lot of people is that Ted was nice to his girlfriend and daughter and he never hurt them. Also, Ted had lots of groupies. Women adored him, even after he was accused of the murders. One of his ex girlfriends even moved to where Ted was in jail to be near him. She had conjugal visits with Ted and she had a child with him. I guess love can make people look past a lot of things.

@@joevignolor4u949 It's an interesting comparison. This guys not attractive like Ted Bundy so I doubt he will have as many admiring fans. lol If I remember right Bundy was kind of a drifter. This killer counted on his standing in the community to shield him. What are the odds of a prominent architect in Manhattan who has office space on the 11th floor in a nice commercial building being a serial killer? The guy has a family and owns an upscale home close to the beach. He no doubt thought his standing in the community and his position as a Manhattan architect would shield him from ever being caught.

@@joevignolor4u949it's a very common reaction in cases like this. It reflects something in offenders that psychologists call "personality fracture". These murderers effectively lead the lives of two different people. They can be perfectly normal, charming and loving in their day to day life. But then there's this other element to them that nobody sees but their victims. What the families are in effect really saying in these cases is that they can't believe that *the side of the murderer* they saw could do such a thing.

Very possible he may have continued his activity but chose a different dumping ground if he had any niggling fears that authorities might be zeroing in on him. Doubt he'd continue to employ the services of sex workers but have completely lost his murderous behavior. Another channel touched on LE dressed in hazmat while dealing with a locked freezer at his home. Trophies? Interesting that Dr. G makes mention of how fastidious RH is while, at the same time, supposedly his shrubs are overgrown, there's lumber left on his front lawn. Bit of a disconnect...although one could handle their personal appearance differently from their environment. Looking forward to watching the details unfold on this case.

OCPD does not assume a clean house. it could. but it's more about how they view, experience, and navigate their world mentally/perspectively. much of the OCPD trait criteria speak more to the being disagreeable, antagonistic, & not well-liked aspects of the disorder. it's not a crossover with the debilitating illness of OCD. that's a totally different realm on a totally separate Axis of mental disorders.

I've seen some episodes of Evil Lives Here, where they speak to the children of serial killers. For the ones under 30, some end up suicidal, depressed or become addicts, after their father is outed in the media. I guess their youth makes them less able to cope. None of them had any idea their father was like that. For two daughters of one of them, he had sexually abused them as children and showed signs of psychopathic behaviour, but that was all and they never dreamed he could be a serial killer. For other children of killers, they actually grow up to work with victims of crime, or work in law enforcement.

The FBI was also pushed away from the case by the Suffolk county police commissioner. James Burke was fired and served federal time in prison and was accused of engaging with prostitution in that area and drug use. It is clear at t his time that Shannan (the correct spelling) clearly was not murdered by the Long Island Serial Killer. She ran from the house of a client near Gilgo Beach in an area where Rex Heuermann did not live, and her body was later found in that area. She was likely under the influence of drugs when this happened and also suffered from mental health issues. The incident was actually witnessed by her driver as well as her client. I don't think it was unreasonable of her family to believe that she was one of LISK's victims, by her mother was a drama queen who was constantly making accusations against various people nearby and claimed that people in the neighborhood (which was not Rex Heuermann's neighborhood) had conspired to kill Shannan. She enjoyed getting attention for herself. She was killed in 2016 by another one of her daughters.

As long as I've been following true crime stories, never have I come across one that literally hit so close to home...I was born in N.y, grew up on Long Island, lived in Massapequa Park, Gilgo was my favorite beach and second home, still is...I also lived in West Babylon and South Amityville...My point is as this story unfolds I can't believe that every town mentioned I have a connection to and can't stop thinking how I could've walked past or even sat next to this psycho at a bar, grocery store or even at the Gilgo Beach Hut which is a popular and fun hangout spot...I remember when the first body was discovered, that's all anybody at the beach could talk about...You couldn't sit or stand anywhere without being in earshot of the story...Over the years the story gained momentum but then suddenly faded out of the spotlight...I always felt bad about the loss of interest and couldn't help but think it was because 4 of the victims were sex workers and law enforcement as well as the public didn't take the case as seriously as they should have...Perhaps they thought it was the girls fault because of their lifestyle or nobody really cared enough about them to spend taxpayers money to further pursue any investigations...That always made me sad...Im so happy and relieved that a new administration took over and the case was reopened and now a suspect in custody....I feel relief and happiness for the families of all the victims....Regardless of what people think, these girls were loved and missed, even if just by one person...Their lives mattered...I hope this evil monster is brought to justice and the families may rest a little easier at night knowing people still cared and this psycho will never be able to hurt another person for the rest of his evil and pathetic life...

As more information comes out, I think we are going to see one of the sickest, most twisted and evil serial killers in the past few decades. Too bad there is no death penalty in New York.

@@darlenelarochelle4011 regardless of my political views, I don't think anyone else would possibly compare Donald Trump with a sadistic serial murderer. Trump is nuts and is dangerous in different ways. It's apples and oranges.

What would have happened had he not been a weird kid and bullied without friends in high school? What would have happened had he dealt with that, moved on and kept himself in shape and his house and yard in good repair? Isn't there enough to do with cooking, laundry, housecleaning, paperwork, kids, spouses and parents....? Where do people find the energy and time to even think of the heinous crimes they commit?

I know. I can't keep organized enough to get all my chores done and the energy even when I was young wasn't there. Such a waste

Excellent recap - best on KZbin. And oh that dark humor we've come to know and love :). As you said, serial killers can start and stop at any time, I think he's killed way before. Maybe not as frequently, but I have a hard time believing he started in his 40's. As it unfolds, I'm sure we'll find out.

I used to live and work on Long Island and remember how the media overtly dismissed the women because they were poor, desperate sex workers. They were murdered and tortured by a middle-class, white, professional man will never be the recipient of bias, brutality, disrespect or disparity in the way some women do. Hence, the mishandling of many of these cases. This society does not really care about so many victims and it’s so sad. Thank you, Dr. Grande for your fair and timely coverage of these stories of cultural and moral turpitude.

The media never dismissed any of here women. Never once. That’s a lie. They were Identified and treated like victims and with dignity from the moment they were found. Stop spreading nonsense and lies

And it has nothing to do with race. Or class. Serial killers are of all races and ages and classes. Your comments are completely idiotic and pathetic.

I like your comments towards the end about his “Design flaws.” As if he was an AI clone. In ancient Sanskrit texts. These designs are called vasanas or mental tendencies. It is said that we choose them before we come for each birth. This concept is thousands of years old. When I “died” for lack of oxygen to the brain years ago. I went into this place of immense love and beauty, and was shown how we choose our life and its design program. Since then, through the decades, there have been books written by doctors who have observed this as well in patients that have either been clinically heart or brain dead. They have come back to tell a similar story according to their particular design filter. There are many KZbin videos coming out now about this phenomenon called NDE. Near Death Experience. I am wondering if you could do a video on that. It is a very popular subject.

Just watched the police walking Rex (the killer) out of the courthouse and he is scary, not only is he massive in stature but tall and big, he stood a foot taller then any cops around him. Very imposing scary evilness in his being, those poor women had no chance one on one against a guy that massive. So glad to see he finally get caught, give justice to those women. How crazy that he was still calling for ladies and not killing them after his killing spree, those are the lucky ones god was looking out for. Rex is one evil, creepy demon walking among us!
