Neatsfoot oil takes me back to being a kid and getting a baseball glove. Oiling the glove with Neatsfoot oil to soften it up a bit, putting a baseball in the center and wrapping the glove fingers with rubber bands around the ball to form the pocket. And every now and then when the glove showed some wear, re-applying the Neatsfoot oil. BTW, neat was the old English word for cow so this is really cow’s foot oil. What a beautiful smell on leather! Good seeing you at the show.

First thing that came to mind was a pull through knife sharpener. I really like that beefy little round valve handle. Did a fair amount of commercial plumbing, used quite a few rather large valves over the years.

John, my wife and I moved from our house in Wilmington, Delaware last year. It was so well-made. Built in 1963 and had a few of those valves you showed. One of the most satisfying projects I ever did was rebuilding them by reseating the valve seat (forgive me if I misremember the correct terms), repacking the nut and just an overall maintenance on them. Don't get me wrong, the modern quarter-turns are the best, but I was able to add at least another decade to them.

First, I would love to see the screwdriver not just restored but made fancy. I too think the wrench had a factory bend in the handle. Seeing the leather oil was from Yonkers reminded me of a story. A neighbor of mine was an Albany born son. He told me that years before he was in boot camp when the sarge had everyone yell out where they were from. From across the room, he heard someone yell Upstate New York. Afterwards he found the guy and asked him where he was from. The guy said Yonkers.

Another great show, ScoutCrafter. That S&K Shorty is over the top and I have one of those all metal screwdrivers --- somewhere. The spanner; I would not straighten that out. You scared me when you talked of that neatsfoot oil as medicinal, then you said it was for rough skin. One swig of that stuff and it would keep you "in house" for a long time.

Hey John, not sure I caught it on video well enough but it appeared that the spanner wrench casting marks were straight and therefore maybe, like you said, the wrench was made that way. Then again I may have not seen it correct. Crappy KZbin quality here in Canada lol.

Thanks for. taking us along to the tool meet John, looks a lot of fun. I spotted that chisel on the $ table too, that's a good handful of steel, I also. like the look of the old keyhole saw too ! That bent wrench does look a bit too perfect in its wonky-ness I'm inclined to agree with you ! Looking forward to see what you do with the Estwing it's an interesting design ! I bought some of the Neatsfoot oil a few years ago to soften up some leather nail pouches and pliers holster that were too stiff to use, I got it from a local saddlery as they use it on the tack - like you I couldn't resist getting the bigger tin for not much more so I've probably got enough for two lifetimes - definitely not one for Vegans !

I've never seen a stubby SK ratchet like that. As far as the spanner wrench, that's bent from a cheater bar that was pretty decent diameter larger. I'm guessing someone was trying to losen a packing gland nut on a hydraulic cylinder. I had one bend very similar to that trying that task. The larger diameter pipe would make the handle roll up like that. I never did get the packing nut undone and wrecked my wrench in the process.

You should not touch high wattage bulbs with bare fingers , my father who was an an Electrical Engineer in the 40's -60's taught me that , I am an Mechanical and Civil Engineer and I will not touch any light bulb with my bare fingers , the oils from our fingers will be deposited on the light bulbs surface and the bulbs heat will heat the oil deposits and shorten the bulbs effective life . Car halogen bulbs have warnings to not handle the bulbs with bare hands . Info from a long time Scout Crafter fan .

I mean I have a guess what that little home made tool is for but I have been watching videos of people who make videos working with machines in a garage or home shop environment. I'd wager it's a tool for a hacksaw or whatever those hand saws with the small thin blades are called. Something kind of like those guides for band saws that someone made because they kept breaking small fragile handsaw blades. Edit: I didn't know those wheels were carbide cutting wheels. 😂 Guess I learned something.
