I found my 25+ year old Coleman Petrol stove recently and decided to try giving it a service and get it back to performing as it should.

I have one of these - it's flaming a bit yellow but now I know how to strip it down I can do a bit of cleaning. I also have a coleman petrol dual mantle lamp - just because it's awesome..... Now all I need is a decent power cut to show the wife that they were worth all the money I wasted on them.
@Drynet Жыл бұрын
I used to have the mantel lamp too many years ago. Moth magnet, but you could also use it to warm up a can of soup if you were careful. Remember to cover the can though or you'll get a few of those moths in as extra protein.

Very useful video. I've been looking for one of these because of its well known reliability. But, knowing that it's a simple and robust piece of kit, which allows maintainance, is a plus. Thanks for sharing!

I have one of these and it is so useful to know how to take it apart for a clean/service. Much appreciated and thanks so much!

Thank you for the video. This is the only video that explains in plain English and in details how to disassemble Coleman stove and put it back together. I have Model # 508 which is exactly the same as your and I was able to tear it apart, clean it and put it back together. It is now working just like new. Again, thank you.

I found one in a skip in fully working order,i also found with it,enders benzin baby nr 9063,German stove,with three vintage tents. Tested this stove,works like a charm,not tested the enders. Both comes with fuel,so i believe both will be working. Thanks for the co0l info.

I found this video very helpful as I am resurrecting my 533 stove right now. You got me when you blew yourself up, because my speakers were up high and I jumped. Good One.😁

I'm delighted I found your channel to watch this weekend of bad weather. I got a galaxy cruz fishing kayak myself 2 weeks ago that I'm dying to get wet.. I also found another channel different scale to me but something to work towards is "Dennis bombom" his giant pike (pikes) vid is crazy.. so I've best of both world to watch thanks again..
@Drynet6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind comments David. The Cruz was my first choice but I proved to be a bit heavy for it so saved a bit longer for the Sturgeon. I've not heard a bad word said about any of the Galaxy Products and a UK company too so even better. I'm in a Sturgeon owners Facebook group and the owner of Galaxy is also a member, and he's always been extremely helpful. My only regret is I don't get out as much as I'd like but hoping to do a lot more this year. Good luck with your Cruz, I'm sure you'll love it. I'll be sure to check out Dennis' channel too. I'm still looking for a PB Pike from the river.

I found out that these stoves aren't being made any longer - Anyone who needs a generator (the pipe over the top) or pump or any other spares would be well advised to get them in before stocks dissapear. I've got a spare generator and spare burner rings - which I hope will mean my stove outlives me.

have heard of people every so often when the stove starts acting up like it's clogged up use maybe a cap full of carburator cleaner in the tank, and spray the top with the same. just a little spray.

Thanks for the tip Terry, I'll try that out if it starts to sputter.

My generators keep failing with unleaded petrol for some reason,, the wire becomes hard to travel through the pipe and it stops working. There is no way to clean the inside of the pipe and if you pull the wire out it's a tough job to get it back in. Just ordered another generator so I'll see what happens.
@NJPurling Жыл бұрын
Don't use them with unleaded petrol it is full of all kinds of additives that will choke your stove. As you just found out to your cost. Look up 'Panel-Wipe'. It is a degreaser for vehicle body panels. You want the 'fast' variety. You don't say where you are. I am in the UK. I just bought a gallon can for 22.43 UKP. It is naptha-based. The American term for it is 'white-gas'. Pure petroleum spirit, no additives. For the Americans: Coleman Fuel is exorbitantly expensive in the UK & they only sell it in small bottles.

Terrific tutorial! I have this stove and after running it ONE time with unleaded gasoline (petrol) the brass tube clogged and the brass hook broke off from that wire. I think white gas is the preferred fuel for this stove. I'd like your input as to how reliable petrol is in this dual fuel stove
@Drynet3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I've only used it with petrol since I've had it and not had any problems. I don't use the stove when I'm fishing because I'm worried the smell of petrol on my hands will taint my fishing baits.
@countryside_guy2 жыл бұрын
@@Drynet You could wear nitrile gloves to keep fuel off your hands so it doesn't taint your baits?

I used this stove with unleaded fuel ,and although it will run , it doesnt go after prolonged periods of use and soots up quite badly ,much to the point It packs up altogether .I now use Aspen 4 fuel which is used for lawn mowers etc, although a bit dearer It burns a lot cleaner and prolonges the the life of the stove 100%.

Does the wire when placed in hook also connected to the other side due to I pulled my wire right out of the unit does it mean it’s broke or do I just put it back in the pipe and connect to the hook plz 👍
@Drynet Жыл бұрын
Hello Paul. The wire does not connect at the other end of the brass pipe, but it does move in and out of a tiny pin hole. It's how the fuel flow is regulated. See the video from 9:10 - 9:40 for the explanation. If you can get the wire back in and feed it through you should be OK. Ensure you can see the end of the wire coming out of the tiny hole at the far end of the pipe when the wire is all the way in. If you can’t feed it through, unfortunately you’ll need to replace the assembly. It’s called a ‘Generator’ and they currently sell online for around £20-£25. I hope that helps. Good luck.

You might want to either get a new generator or add a fuel cleaner. I add seafoam to my fuel everytime I use it.

I’m a carp angler and use the 533. Last few week my stove has stopped simmering. When I turn it down it dies out. What could this be ?
@Drynet2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Confirm the fuel pressure is high enough. If that isn't it it could be it needs a good clean, as shown in the video. While it's in bits check for signs of damage or wear on the componenets and make sure there's no crud built up anywhere. Also, try adding a little drop of Redex or similar to help keep everything clean during use. I hope you get it sorted.
@tomasinacovell42932 жыл бұрын
Does it work better with Colman fuel, does it stay cleaner?
@Drynet2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I've never used the Colman fuel, only unleaded petrol. You can add an after market petrol treatment, such as Redex, to help keep the fuel system clean.
