Hey guys! So because I am not always good with updating descriptions of older vids with the new updates, let's try something out! I will start to implement hashtags that describe the topic, you can see them under the video and in the description. So whenever there will be a new update I will mention this hashtag. You can then search for this hashtag by clicking on it and results containing this tag will appear :D this was suggested by one of you, so thank you for a good dea!

hey Danni, Think it was I who sent you the E-mail about this. (phal/dtps w/long, dead root(petrified) but lots of air-roots & decent ,but slightly dehydrated leaves).I've since done what you say here (except no glue or wax) repotted in orchiata/moss . 7 air-roots in, 1 above & now will wait & see 🤞🤞🤞

I’m SO glad you posted this video when you did! A couple of days ago, one of my phals broke apart and I’ve been searching (unsuccessfully, until now) for any tips on the possibility of potting aerial roots. Your videos are always great to learn from- very thorough, articulate, and well-paced. Thank you so much for this one!

UPDATE: I successfully repotted my broken phal in the recommended New Zealand sphagnum moss and good quality bark, covering 2 of its aerial roots, and not only did it begin producing a new leaf, its other leaves are looking healthier and it’s sending out more roots! I’m so glad it worked. Thank you again for your help!

Hi Danny! I had to stop by and give you the usual "Big Thanks" for all the time you put into doing these videos for us. You have changed my life in some ways because you encourage a hobby that is gratifying. I now have 7 orchids and they are all doing FANTASTIC (I have a bunch of new roots and leaves growing on a few of them, but no new flower spikes yet. I am anticipating one soon. hahah). It will be my first "full season" and its very enjoyable. Thanks again Danny and please keep pumping out these videos! :)

I wish I saw this earlier. I changed my phal from moss to bark and almost all the roots died. After growing 2 Arial roots, it has grown a new leaf and is now growing one new root but I am not sure if it is not going into the media yet. Just letting it do its thing.

Thank you, I need this. I have an orchid that I am trying to fix for her. It had lot of Mealie bugs. I cleaned that up and repotted, however it had a 4 inch center stem. I put it in a tall pot because everyone said you can’t cut it. So I see you can but carefully. Now is a good time because it is producing new roots & a new leaf.

I have an idea for a video. If you have room for only a smaller collection and you would like to have something in bloom all year, which combination of orchids could accomplish that goal? I'm pretty much a beginner and I haven't had many blooms at all yet. I'm working on it! I have mostly phals and a few oncidiums.

Superglue works brilliantly with clean cuts - so there's another option. I've even sealed cacti (very watery) with it, and it works perfectly!

I like your hot glue method! One of the AOS judges I knew from my orchid group uses a mixture of Elmer's glue and cinnamon (lots of cinnamon!) That she kept on hand. It had always worked well with me and it is thick enough to use on cut leaves without falling off. :)

Thank you for this video. My oldest orchid "15y old" has such a long main stem and I am so scared to trim her but I have to, as I cannot find a deeper pot to plant her and all new roots are mainly aerial. Is it ok to trim it now or wait for next Spring? Thank you

Omg can you please do a video on Arachnis?! 😭😭😭 I've been asking for years since I saw that you had some lol! Theres little to NO information anywhere on them. I had to pretty much wing it with 4 cuttings I found after Hurricane Maria (took me ages to even ID them!). They finally flowered last summer but they are about 8ft tall and idk if I should cut it or keep it going. Especially now, after they finally flowered I'm torn on what to do! But I'm running out of vertical room too lol 😅 Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world Danni!

Hi, they mainly need Vanda like conditions (since they are Vandaceous) and are monopodials, I didn't get mine to bloom yet so congrats! ☺️

@@MissOrchidGirl Wow, really?! Thanks! It took a couple years but it was so worth it. Yeah I figured out that they are Vandaceous and terrestrial. But I have no idea what to do with the height. Like will it keep blooming after I cut it? Does it have to be significantly tall to bloom? If I cut it, can i cut it to about 2-3 ft or should it be kept longer? Gah! So many questions. The same goes for my Papilionanthe.. it's getting tall, no blooms yet, but I'm not sure if cutting it will benefit it or set it back. Thanks for your reply, it means a lot. I hope your Arachnis blooms for you its next blooming season! ❤❤❤

I would not cut the stem of monopodials, unless it's dead, it will continue blooming from upper on the stem each time, just like a Phal :D

I thought you said in previous videos that aerial roots are prone to dying if they are suddenly moved to the medium, no?

It depends you have to keep track of the amount of moisture you are adding. Like she said slowly increase the moisture levels over a period of time.

Hi Dani. I am noticing something white and fuzzy growing on roots of my orchids. Is this mold or fungus? How should I treat this? Do you recommend soaking in hydrogen peroxide? And how do I prevent this from recurring? What could be the underlying issue? Too much moisture (I use a humidifier)? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Love your videos. I didn't know you could trim the dead part of the stem. I repotted my mini still with it. Since repotting my mini has been thriving and has beautiful blooms. Thank you for all the information you put in your videos. Quick question. I did repot a big orchid 4 months ago. I kept a few rotted root to help it since if I cut them she would of be bare rooted. Now she has new roots. What should i do at this point. Let her be for a year or should i repot with same media but remove the rooted old roots?
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, well it really depends how many dead roots there are and how they affect the medium. After watering, smell the medium, if it smells bad it means things are going bad in there and you need to intervene, if not you can let it be more. Next time just stabilize the orchid with some stakes, it will be better long term, here's a video on it kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4a0eZ2Pj9uDf68

Hi Danny, My mini Phalaenopsis lost most of the roots and it has only 3 top roots. It is very dehydrated with 2 leaves left. Have you done re-hydration with black tea solution letting it soak for a full day and dry at night until it recovers hydration before transplanting? I wish you had a web site or email address where I can send you pictures of my mini orchid. It also seemed like one of the top roots has some different tip (almost like mini stems, hairs?) do you think this is a kaiki?

Help! Need your advice please, I have a orchid with a Keki at the top of its long stem but has had no root grow for the for months but it seems to be 'sucking' the life out of the mother orchid. The leaves are now leathery but the baby orchid seems fine. What should I do? Cut the stem its on and save the mother orchid, or save the baby?
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, since the keiki has no roots, its chances of survival after removal are small. The mother plant sounds overloaded and close to its end too. So it is up to you to decide who to save, but in case you remove the keiki, try placing it in a dome, or place a bag on top to increase humidity and buy it time, maybe it will root in time. Good luck! ☺️

Hi Danny, It’s been a while since I’ve seen you use perlite. I’m growing way less fond of it. I feel like it doesn’t help with drainage at all when I’m already using bark. It’s great for my houseplants that I grow in soil, but it has no place in my orchid setups. What do you think about perlite?
