a no b/s review. Bravo mate. When my '95 D1 (Disco 1) was released here in Australia, it came with Coopers. Havent let me down so i have kept with the brand and i take it everywhere. Up mountains, through rivers and on the beach. Great review, cheers for sharing.

I have a set of Cooper ATP I purchased at Discount Tire with about 90K miles, 8 years old. They are very good on the highway, wet roads, snow and gravel/ rocky roads that I travel on in Oregon and the western states. I pull a 30’ travel trailer and they have performed very well for me. They are noisy at 55 mph on the highway is my only complaint. The humming noise is only at 55 mph for some strange reason. But from all the reviews I have seen/read all AT tires are noisier that a highway tire.

Great review! I had these on my JK for 50k miles and still had a 1/4" strong of tread on there. The wet and snow traction was amazing and did really good on moderate trails that I went on. I sold them to a snow plow company and got the Nitto Exo Grapplers. The Nitto's are good in the rain and snow as well. But the sidewall strength and durability of the Exo's are near bomb proof!! I just needed more sidewall strength for Colorado and all the sharp rocks we have here. But loved the ATP's when I had them. Nice work sir!

FZJ80 with 3 year old AT3 and have driven them in everything but mud. Traction has never been a problem with thousands of offroad mile NV, AZ and Death Valley.

Thanks for that review! I’ve had the same issues with my AT3’s on my F150, with the every other tread wearing down on both sides of the tire. I agree, they definitely aren’t quiet, but an overall good tire.

They really seem to get rid of that floaty steering in the 5th gen 4Runner but as I only have run the stock Dunlops as a comparison, it seems possible any A/T tire with a stiff sidewall would probably also make a difference as well. A/T tire could work just

The old USA made AT3 (old ATP) is still available. They offer it as a Walmart exclusive branded as the Cooper A/T.

When you rotate your tires put the rears straight to the front and the front’s switch side’s to the back, that’s the proper way to to rotate non directional tires! I think a lot of tire shop’s now just go front to back and back to front like directional tires, that is probably the biggest problem with your cupping and road noise? Also the at3 newer tread design may be much better for that problem.

Yup! That's actually my intended rotation, but lately my rotation schedule ends up when I'm doing some form of maintenance and find that I have one side jacked up, so lazy me has just been going front and back rather than moving my floor jacks around. I typically have the shop cross the rears (though I'm rarely at the shop) and I have done it myself, though not as often as I should. With my LX (on KO2s) I unfortunately found myself with damaged fronts (due to trail damage on Golden Spike) and had to replace that pair. Now I have differing treadwear depths between the front and rear. On a mechanical full-time 4wd vehicle, this is ok as long as side to side is roughly the same depth to maintain differential performance and minimize wear. With that vehicle, I'm stuck going front to back for the next 40k miles, despite crossing them earlier. :(.

Great discussion. I'll be in the market in a few months and Coopers were on top of the list. I want sure what to think of the ATP, but considering my off road use won't be too heavy they may help me save some money.

I can see that you have a cupping issue on the front tires. Definitely an issue I saw when I owned the Cooper ATP Tires. More frequent tire rotation will fix that. It's a common issue with aggressive AT tires and especially MT tires.

I go through Cooper ATP's like a nun through underwear. I'm on the fourth set on my off road rig. Traction is good in most cases, not at all good in mud and slush. The wear is uniform overall, but they wear fast. My next set will be Coopers AT3 XLT. I have a Bronco II built for serious off roading. My friend owns a Wrangler, we went wheeling in the Mink hills here in NH. Where we went was like driving down a washed out river bed. The Jeep was on a 32" BFG mud tire. I'm on 32" ATPs and went everywhere he did without skipping a beat. The ATP's are great in dry conditions off road, not great in slippery wet, but what tire is, save suction cups? Great take. I've noticed the set on my truck seem to be wearing faster than the set on my Disco. No surprise, the truck is a lot heavier. I'm eyeing the XLTs as well for a next set.

Uneven tire wear is the cause of the noise. Check wheel alignment. Rotate the tires more often.

@@mercedesbenzs600bash nope they just really hold the road good. If I know it's gonna snow or be really bad and I have to drive in it I'll lower the air pressure in the tires 5-8 pounds and your good to go.

Great information my man really appreciate it,im in New Jersey which Coopers would you recommend for inclement weather conditions for my 08 Sequoia 275-65-18??? How were the KO2s compared to the Coopers and how was the road noise???

I would say the road noise is different between the KO2s and Coopers, and about the same volume. My favorite for inclement weather right now is General Grabber ATXs (I have a review of them on my channel too). I know KO2s have a love/hate relationship on the web, but I'm in the "love" camp. My set has been good in rain or snow, but I must say I haven't had many major snowstorms lately due to the drought out west. My Cousin also has a set of KO2s on his 2nd gen Sequioa, he's in Colorado and hasn't complained about snow performance either. I love the Coopers too, but haven't bought a set in a long time (so I haven't tried the new variants of the classic ATP), but if price is similar I go to the Grabber ATX, I really like that tire. Great review! I'm kind of bouncing between the KO2 and the ATX for my 4Runner, so I'm looking forward to seeing your review. I feel like the BFG is kind of the gold standard of all terrains, however I've read quite a few complaints about them on the Toyota groups I belong to, so I'm not sure anymore. The ATX seems like a pretty good budget priced alternative.

The KO2s just started to make noise...it's a different sound than the Cooper's, instead of sounding like a wheel bearing or drive line out of balance, it sounds more like gears in the transmission. But there performance has been awesome. The ATXs have much less miles and are still quiet, but we tested them in Colorado this year and did awesome. So far, I have no complaints with either

Make sure you rotate them often. I typically rotate my tires every 10000 miles, but I needed to rotate my atp ever 5000 miles due to slight cupping. Still lasted me about 60k miles, just needed to rotate them more often

I put on 80k miles on my Cooper atp lt 265/65 r20 so far... And i still have good tread to get me through another year. I have them mounted on 2013 ram 1500 and it is my daily driver.... my next set will be the same tire...

Great timing to see this review! I'm looking for tires for my wife's trailblazer and my 77 f350. I hadn't heard of the atp's but was looking at the at3 lt's. We get a fair bit of snow and ice in the winter. My wife wants a quiet tire that will handle our winters and since I need a tire that will do well with the weather and hold up to regularly pulling a trailer. I think that the at3 lt's might be a perfect fit for us.

You said you with with the LT tires but so you go with load C or load E? I heard Load E are only good for heavy duty trucks.

I went with Load E as C was unavailable in my size. Load Range E is heavier, it doesn't deform as much, but the sidewall is stronger. What you don't do, is buy Load Range E and load it up to 80 psi rating like you would on the rear wheels on a heavy duty truck. Just load them up to 30-35psi (depending on your vehicle weight, the best highway PSI is trial and error) and call it good. I've been doing it for years, it's probably been close to 15-20 years since I've had a set of Load Range Cs or even Ds. Es are just much more available.

@@jaymoar3561 , Nope. Just run them at the PSI listed on your door and adjust pressure based on the wear. Lots of people run Load Range Es (because they are common) on rigs that size. All of my tires right now are E's, as that's all that was available at a good price. The good thing is, the last time I had a flat on the trail was the stupid P-rated tires on my Disco when I bought it!

The new AT3 4S passenger version are total garbage. The sidewall sags so much I have to keep checking for proper air pressure. Even at maximum 45psi the tire looks like its low. Buyer beware, total junk.

Fair enough, I felt it was applicable to explain the types of terrain and vehicle types I've used them on. For example, I admitted I couldn't fairly access them in mud or sand, as I don't wheel in those conditions often.
