Thanks for the Maven review. I was impressed with it at the XP Academy. That’s another great thing about the Academy is that we got to try out a bunch of spotters and tripods from cheap to expensive and really find what works good for the money. I’m probably going to go with the Vortex or Maven. Thanks for all the help and see you next year

Have run an Athlon G1 then later G2 (free upgrade by company after wind blew over my G1 on a tripod and wouldn't focus) for about 3 years now. Absolutely solid optic. Have the mil reticle as well which is super useful. For the money it is a great purchase if you don't have a spotting scope. BUT, you absolutely get what you pay for in many cases. Biggest frustration is trying to discern hits on freshly painted steel past 500m. Really starts to fall apart at that point. Leaning towards an upgrade as Ive gotten more proficient. If new to sport and looking for a spotter, can't recommend the Athlon highly enough. If established in the game and shooting anything under 6.5 CM out to 400, or any caliber beyond 600m, you're better off saving your money and getting better quality glass to resolve impacts.

Great video. I've been shooting in 3.5 years.I have a few spotting scopes .😊I've compared just about all you have.I had 7 side by side and looking out at 4327 yards and .y Tract was jyst about as clear as tge Zeiss and Swarovski using tge nin reticle eye piece.I have the 30 power reticle eyepiece.All in all I like the BigEyes Binos for spotting.

Ray, you need to try Kowa spotting scopes; their optical quality is on par with, if not better than, Swarovski's, and the field of view on the new Prominars is really nice. The only drawback is that they don't have reticles.

I was looking at the Razor HD 13-39X56, but I guess I should give the Viper HD 11-33X50 a look. Not having a reticle in the razor really stinks.

nvm, looks like the viper reticle is only for the 85mm version for 33x.

Thank you Sir! Would you kindly give me your opinion on what the minimum power of a spotting scope is required to see bullet placement on paper at 300 yds………aside from the issue of attaching a cell camera to the scope? Thanks again….helpful indeed.

I would to hear how the Burris HD spotting scope compares to the Vortex. I'm surprised you left this one out.
@XRING
@XRING 3 ай бұрын
I actually loaned that out to a friend of mine and didn't have time to get it back before the filming. The Burris is also a nice unit and is packaged very nicely. I still think for the price that Vortex is a tough one to beat.

If you could only buy one, is it better to have good LRF binos, or a good spotting scope? Obviously you loose out on a lot of magnification with opting for binos, but a spotting scope is bulkier and heavier.
@XRING
@XRING 3 ай бұрын
I’m going to go with the LRF Binos personally. I MUST know how far a target is from the shooting location. At that point you just use references like 1/2 a target or full target left or right. 👍🏼

Hi Ray , how do you attach the Olin peace on you spotting scope ? Ordered the right one and it is snug on my Swaro but it end up popping out , air compressing I thing . Do you use any glue ? Kind regards from Portugal
@XRING
@XRING 3 ай бұрын
Hello Rvargues. You need to contact Ollin about that as I think they have a special double stick tape that solves that issue. My Swaro has a tiny little piece of rubber on it and allows it to slip off rather easily. I appreciate you watching from Portugal and I hope you have a great day.
