this is the best review i have seen on this rifle, easily the most professional and least 'flashy', with fair praise and critique where it deserves i own one of these, currently they are about 11k€, 8500€ without the absurd taxes, im quite sure that price has increased since i bought mine, while it is my prefered rifle, it definitely has its quirks of being a 1st generation multicalibre system, but they have very recently started showing an updated platform (with MLOK rail) for the TRG 62 A1 and on the finnish website atleast for TRG M10 which im sure will recieve new A1 designation, im not sure what improvements/changes they have made, or if (when avalible) they will be backwards compatible for us with "A0" models. it is possible to get different calibres, including the normas, but the US has its own logistical complexity that you may not have the safety is one of the main reasons i prefer the TRGs over any other rifle, being able to be hands on a live rifle safely, and being able to engage quickly without breaking position is simply muscle memory, conventional safeties have a problem with encouraging people to be hands on with an unsafe gun, it is easier to instruct people to use trigger guard safety properly imo. having to remove the rail and any muzzle devices is my biggest issue with the rifle, acceptable for it being 1st generation of the multicalibres but it is something that time and money should have been invested in to improve (and doesnt look like it has been even after over a decade since it was released to market) i have owned mine for 7-8 ish years now, it is a 90% perfect rifle, obvious flaws that you point out, but it is still a high quality rifle that is my go-to despite its issues.

I've taken it out to 1 mile recently. My friends Sako LR 338LM can do it consistently but given the caliber restrictions at the ranges in my country, a 338 is not an option unless its private land. Regardless, I can get it done with the TRG & my best all time group on video was 3 shot 1.4inch group at 1000m (planets aligned that day) which blew out to 6.7inches with 5 shots (still sub moa). Ill definitely be handing it down to my kids.

Hey mate, great review. Just thought I'd point a couple of things out about the barrel change. First thing is that the front bolt on the hand guard only needs to be loosened, which is why it isn't retained. Second is that you don't "need" the special wrench to remove and install the barrel collar, there is a lug on the bolt handle that is designed to do this, you just don't get the calibrated torque when doing it this way.

I did learn something watching this video... i had no idea the tool for barrel nut had a torque setting 😂 ive never tightened it that far i guess. Also if you look closely on the bolt handle it is also designed to tighten and loosen that barrel nut/collar, you will see a little protruding piece that sits in the holes on the collar. Another cool little feature is the barrel release lever can be unscrewed and switched around to shorten the length of throw when using the .308 or other short cartridges if you have extra non OEM barrels.

New production M10s are coming with the same MLOK handguard as the TRG22/42A1s. Older system is nice if you do need 3/9 o clock pic to hold zero, but is dated at this point. There are also options to swap the folder mechanism to the left. Moves that hump to the other side.

Gotta love them Sako’s. Awesome rife, awesome review legend. We appreciate it. Australian Police Sharp Shooters used to have Sako wood stock heavy well over 1.1inch bull barrels (I believe they weren’t Sako barrels but some premium grade barrel back in the 1980s and 90s) Did any Police sharp shooters have any Sako’s in the U.S. in the 1980s and 90s ?

When Sako manufactures the 375 Swiss P kit for the Trg m10 somewhere there the competition will end. It will probably be the only multicaliber precision rifle that will support on one multi platform the calibers from 6.5cr to 375 Swiss P.Αlso Sako and Ruag belongs to the same group...

The price has been going up like crazy. My wife and I got this brand new here Finland for 7999€ (338LM, Finnish gun Finnish round support the locals blahblahblah), and the shop threw in an extra magazine (200-250€ value), and two more cheaper items to sweeten the deal. It seems to be well over 10,000 to order one now.

You know what Sako means? It is not word, its acronym. It means in English "National Guards Weapon and Machine shop". Suojeluskuntain Ase ja KOnepaja. Today ofcourse fully owned subsidiary of Beretta.

Hi Ray. I love your channel. I want to get into precision/long range shooting. I see you have alot of experience with both AI and the MRAD. Would you recommend one over the other? The idea of being able to swap calibers is great. Or would you recommend going custom for a first precision setup?

Thank you for this very good review... One question, if you would like to shoot just one caliber....lets say the 338 lap.mag. isn't the trg 42 the best choice?it's less than half the price,and apart for the changes of caliber basically the same rifle...or do i overlook something.. Thanks again, all the best from the Netherlands
@timothythompson65493 ай бұрын
The way the barrel is secured is more confidence inspiring than some of the other switch barrels out there, I'll give it that. But wouldn't be worth $12K to me. Ray, with your channel and the stuff you do for Microtech you're very good at communicating on camera. Do you have a public speaking background? That's something I've always struggled with. It would be beneficial to me professionally to have that skill.

The Sako M10 is an excellent rifle with its modularity and accuracy, but rifles like the Accuracy International AXMC, Barrett MRAD, and others offer unique advantages that might make them as good or better options for specific scenarios.

Without offending the KZbin rules, as a relative beginner learning from your channel - I'm assuming the main purpose of that rifle is meant for bipeds. If it's military grade, of course you're going to see 200% price hikes at least. Governments buy these bulk through huge budgets. It makes sense that the nation that brought us Simo Häyhä, would excel at sniper rifle manufacturing. I must've seen a hundred videos like this so far (I only started this year), and that rifle is the most accurate I've ever seen tested on YT. Not to mention excellent shooting and the math you're applying, that's skill. I'm not cool enough to call that 'dope' just yet. I'm sure most of us could share an instance where it'd take hosts & influencers 50 shots to hit an iPad-sized steel target 900+yards away. I'm still shopping for my first long range and hunting rifle (600yards likely) and I'm doing my homework. So far, I'm predicting $2k for a rifle, $2k for a scope. While my purposes (long range + possible hunting of deer or even elk), I settled on 6.5PRC. Then I saw the price of that ammo. I loved the versatility & ammo costs of the 30-06, but the similar recoil but flatter shooting 7mm rem mag makes the most sense. I like 7PRC, but the cost of PRC ammo is "forget it" expensive. Thinking likely a SAKO S20 Hunter with cerakote, 24.4" barrel. I wanted a "Benelli Lupo BEST", but then I'd have to skimp on the scope. Here in Canada, our JTF-2 brothers, who've been top or near top of the list in long range sniper 'engagements', we use the M110 & McMillan TAC-50 and Barrett M82 (all American rifles). I met the sniper who led the top of that "long range success" list for like 7yrs, Rob Furlong. Top of that list is now a Ukrainian, Viacheslav Kovalskyi - 4155 yards, the ammo "12.7x114 mm HL wildcat" = "halfway between a 50 caliber and a 20 mm cannon round". HL means "Horizon's Lord". Creepy enough. Second on the list is an unnamed Canadian who got his with a 50 BMG at 3871 yards. These rifles are insane. . . I think about those brave Ukrainians all the time, fighting for their very survival.

Race car comparison is spot on, if you have they money it's a cool (toy) Rifle. But the average and even above average shooter can have a rifle that is just as accurate in the same caliber for a fraction of the cost. Cool rifle and good video. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

Definitely a rifle aimed at government contracts.
@XRING3 ай бұрын
I agree.
@The_Judge3003 ай бұрын
This is not a gun that any sane private person would buy. This is a gun that is specially made for professionals where a miss can be extremely more devastating than losing some points in a competition or you risking to eat tag soup. One of the huge advantages of this rifle compared with most guns, is that you do not lose any accuracy at all when taking off and putting on the barrel again. Making it extremely more easy to carry with you on a mission in rough terrain and where you might need to carry if for many hours if not for days before you are going to use it compared with a sniper rifle in .338 Lapua/Norma Magnum in full length. For a military, the price doesn't matter much and they are also getting the gun for a lower price as well. For us civilians that want to shoot with more normal cartridges, like the 300 Win Mag as used here, 308 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor and similar cartridges, then a normal Tikka T3x will give you the same accuracy for an extremely lower price. Would I love to have the Sako M10 when I was a Sniper? 100% Would I buy the M10 now as a civilian if I could afford it? Heck no. I would rather use the guns I already have and spend that money on one or more of my dream hunts.

That was a great review. Your awesome shooting abilities added real value to the build of the rifle. If I had shot it, then the value of the rifle would have plummeted faster than a falling rocket from NASA. Back to the rifle…… that rifle is way too much money, considering, that it did not include a scope nor the money for the laser range finder. I can only imagine that by the time you add up the cost for just the optics, you are extremely close to the cost of the rifle itself. Oh and how much for the bipod. For the overall cost, not including ammo and extra magazines, you could have bought at least two completed rifles, extra magazines and ammo and some gun cases. Oh one last thing, another $2,000 for barrel exchange kits…… that is just looney tunes crazinesses. Going off topic for a question. Why do we refer to those rifles as “sniper rifles??” By them selves they are just a tool. I think we, (and I do) should refer to them as a “Sniper’s Rifle” The trained Sniper is the most important element of the equation. They are the ones who will complete their mission of “One Shot, One Kill” with a rifle, regardless of it’s build.
