Oops, I meant to say that if the car has excessive oil consumption, not oil change, that the engine goes in for repair.

You call this a long-term test without even driving an inch with that car?
@travisp1111 ай бұрын
I was just relating our progress at that time. For what it’s worth the car gave us 120k miles before we traded it in 2020. It was burning 1qt of oil every 3K miles which wasn’t enough to warrant a new engine according to Honda. Other than that and following factory maintenance we didn’t have any issues at all (not counting the Takata air bag recall). I’m approaching my Honda Passport videos differently this time around.

The best thing about this hybrid hondas is that it can still run car where the prius can't.

A word from a 2010 ex w/nav owner, all the plastics and seals are getting brittle already, the car still gets 44mpg with long 70mph highway driving most days for me. The paint has not held up well. The floor carpet is terrible, so are the seats. Furthermore, due to the battery replacement costs, the resale on these drop like a stone with every mile. If you get one, expect to keep it till it explodes. I do not recommend people get one, there are plenty of high mpg 4cyl commuter cars that will likely get you a longer service life. I got mine at 30k miles for 13k all in, now has 130kmiles, we are saving with the expectation it will not make 200k, i have had several other hondas and mitizubishis that have gone 200k no problem. Its not a great car and I would not do it over again.

sean flesch I'm guessing we will hold on to it through 100k miles and either I will just drive it locally or we will sell it. So far, it is holding up well. It is garaged daily and the interior sees little extra use as we have no kids but yeah, the carpet is super thin and the seats are hard. I use some decent waxes and polishes on it so I'm hoping that the paint holds up. As for the main battery pack, I have a friend that had a 2010 and his hit 160K miles before he gave it to his son who daily drives it. It will be interesting to see how well it does.

Secret revealed! Why are these soo much less than other hybrids? Thanks for the heads up. Lexus/Prius head gaskets and Honda drinking oil Oh My. Thanks again.
@travisp112 жыл бұрын
Yup. Ours maxed out at 1-2qts. burned every 3k miles but never qualified for a rebuilt or new engine but that kind of oil burning is not healthy. Especially in a zero emission car.

I'm glad that Honda was forced into litigation and now is required to notify customers of the 2010-2013 Insight models for defective piston rings. There have been many Insight owners burned by Honda not making the repair because their Insights was burning just about a quart per 1000 miles but just a shade too short of requiring a repair. That kind of business ethic and attitude is not the way customers should be treated.

Will Honda honor this even though I bought this car used, therefore am not the original owner?
@travisp115 жыл бұрын
Yes. The warranty applies regardless of owner according to the info we have received.

Do happen to remember the month and year that you received the notice to do the "1000 mile burn" ? I'm considering buying one of these (a 2013 EX) with 66k miles on it and the Carfax report doesn't specify that particular maintenance. It looks like the previous (and only) owner was changing the oil every 10k miles. It eventually went to auction in May of this year (2020)....perhaps for non-payment. Any advice is much appreciated.

Joshua Fontenot check my channel for Insight videos. I think I posted a video a few days after I got the notice.

Joshua Fontenot it’s been close to two years now since I got the notice. I can’t recommend this car. The CVT is very rubber bandy

After 100,000 Km should move to the 15W-40 Engine oil type. Otherwise, the oil-burning issue can happen

those tires look like they got some serious grip driving on the wall

I watch the air pressure constantly. Living where we do with our temp fluctuations between winter and spring, along with the TPMS system, I basically need to check the air pressure weekly. We have not experienced a blow out with these tires but the original Ecopias are not known for longetivity or durability.
@Awag-yj8bu7 жыл бұрын
travisp11 they must have a lot of grip right? because usually hybrid car tires are relatively soft. that looks like an awesome commuter car...I need something like that...2 door sports cars aren't the best daily driver's

Do you still have this car
@travisp11 Жыл бұрын
We traded it in 2020. At the time it was consuming 1.5qts of oil per 3K miles. Not enough for Honda to give us a rebuild but that didn’t leave us happy. Car started consuming oil around 40K miles.
@michaelsandoval3538 Жыл бұрын
@@travisp11 thx for the response! So you got rid of it at 40k?

That looks like a nice car, but what do you drive when there's a foot of snow?
@travisp117 жыл бұрын
Jason Goebel My wife drives the Honda, I drive a Jeep Cherokee XJ. When the weather is bad or if there is the potential for snow/ice, she drives the Jeep and I walk the four blocks to my place of employment from our home. We will be picking up an inexpensive pick up truck in the near future so that will add a third vehicle to our stable.
