i use insight for a year. My car was produced in 2012 and i can confirm, the gas consumption is very low and 50mpg/gal is reachable.

I have pretty wonky transmission issues on my 2010 Insight. I had transmission fluid switched out but still acts the same pretty much. It's not too bad once you start driving and it warms up, but it's just pretty annoying how jarring it could be sometimes just trying to go from a stop. for example pretty much every morning when I back out of the driveway and then I put it in the drive and I try to go there is a jerking sensation before I finally take off. I told Honda about it and they said it's supposed to be like that which doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, CVTs are known for having a "rubber band" launch. Our is sitting at 90K and it feelsl like it did when it was new which is not refined.
@SpecialXperienZ5 жыл бұрын
@@travisp11 the rubber band affect I don't mind. That's not what bothers me. It is a legit jerking sensation. I think it has to do with the electric motor attaching to the transmission as you take off. It just wasn't as well built as I would have hoped, I assume. Basically I imagine it should be a lot more seamless than it is, Maybe the previous owner didn't take very good care of it and that's why.I've been told to drive these cars carefully because they are not like normal Hondas.
@SpecialXperienZ5 жыл бұрын
@@travisp11 I've learned that I need to drive it a certain way. It's a good car if you take care of it. Also my mpg isn't great. I'm averaging 30mpg in the city. Which isn't bad technically but it should be better. Of course I do like driving a little aggressive sometimes haha. It's just something worth noting. I've talked to other Insight owners who have the same issue with the jerking. I'm sure it being a cvt affects it too. But other Hondas with cvt are pretty smooth in my experience. Maybe the refresh models (2012-2014) of the Insight are more refined and work better. Who knows. Thanks for the reply.

@@SpecialXperienZ The oil burning issue is what really bothers me. I expected more from one of the last of the Japanese built Hondas, not crappy valves and rings that start wearing out at 40K miles. We havent experienced the herky jerky electric motor but Im sure I will get there. How many miles do you have on your Insight? Luckily, ours is mostly highway so the wear and tear has been minimal but we wont miss this car when it is gone.
@travisp115 жыл бұрын
@@SpecialXperienZ One of my bosses up at work had a 2010 with 130K miles on it before it got totaled in a parking lot crash about a month ago. They still have some trade and retail value but not as much as a Civic. At 60-65 mph on the highway we do get 50 MPGs running non ethanol 87 octane gase. In town we average low 40s but we are also running the Bridgestone eco tires and our towns top speed is 35 mph in town.

Do you thick 2011 Honda Insight with 42,000 miles is a good one?
@travisp113 жыл бұрын
No. You may start to run into oil burning issues like so many other Insight owners have seen. And the oil consumption test from Honda is a joke so I wouldn't even bother.
@travisp113 жыл бұрын
@? I'd go for a prius since the insights have their oil burning issues I would not take a chance.

it's like a Prius but with V-Tech...also the thinner the width of tire you have the better gas mileage you get...I drove a first gen insight and it had a width of 110 they looked like it was driving on rolls of pinstripe tape XD
@travisp117 жыл бұрын
Awag1000 We have the new Ecopia plus tires that will go on it in a few days. They have a less flimsy sidewall. The Insight cannot go on full electric unlike the Prius. They classify the car as a hybrid but Honda calls the electric system Integrated Motor Assist.

travisp11 Yokohama makes some awesome tires, they may be a bit expensive but that all I run on both of my cars...I have a set of low rolling resistance hybrid tires on my mustang and they get me close to a 6mpg boost from the old Firestones I used to have on it... Yokohama makes tires specific to the Prius an I think they may work on your insight

Well...the Bridgestone's are going on this Tuesday and the handling is good but in all honestly, don't do much sporty driving in it. My wife drives it the majority of the time. I had my fun with my 91 Mustang GT but sold it when we bought our house. At some point I will go back to something fun.

travisp11 I think they have 2 different types of eco tires, the rest are low rolling resistance, but regardless (opinion) they are awesome tires
