Long Term Yamaha XSR900 Review What I Love and Hate about this Bike

After 13000 Miles I finally share my thoughts on the Yamaha XSR900 Motorcycle

Have had mine since 2019..., share the fuel capacity and seat comfort issues. Blinkers, tank covers etc., I also agree, however, I feel the win in price compensates for these aesthetics. Transmission and speed wobble.., this is my sixth season riding this bike, no issues at all. In fact I find the handling and transmission excellent. Suspension, brakes, no issue however I'm 5'11'' and 170 lbs..., I find it corners and handles beautifully. My opinion..., the person buying the XSR900 falls into two camps..., they know and understand the massive gap between price and performance or they don't, and have made a major mistake and should exit the decision asap. The cross plane three is clearly one of the best engines ever made in cycling and its wrapped in a very proven frame and suspension. It's not a distance cruiser or a land speed projectile. It's a dependable, finely balanced hammer. Respect it and use the proper traction control settings with the appropriate riding modes and it's Clark Kent with Superman on reserve. Ride Safe and Wear the Gear!

The aluminium fuel tank cover is a great idea as it provides for easy replacement and with the plastic tank provides for light weight. It also allows you to easily change colours. I absolutely love this bike, the ergonomics are great for my 175cm height. The motor is absolutely awesome, it’s like riding a turbocharged two stroke. The worst thing about the XSR900 is the suspension, it’s way too harsh for my 73kg weight and without doubt the worst of any bike I’ve owned. Luckily there are lots of aftermarket options available.

I did 12000 km on mine, no such issues like you described with going into second, so it's your experience, not all of them have it.

That was a great review. Thanks for being so detailed. I was strongly considering getting this bike but some of the negatives you mentioned are a deal breaker for me. I might go with something else

Could the instability come from the windscreen? Had a the same thing on my bandit 600.

Removed it to make room for the larger tire. Soon after making this video I replaced it using an sw-motech front fender with some custom brackets, it looked damn good.

Isn't that a xsr700? Why do you call it the 900?

Nope not a 700. It is a 2016 XSR900
