Long-time client got BAMBOOZLED! Non-compliant/high risk/liability gate install

A long time client decided to use one of the larger fence companies in our region to save a few dollars. More times than not there is a reason for price differences. Now this former client has to decide what there will do with at least two dangerous and high risk gates they had this fence company install for them. From non-code compliance to flat out pathetic work, follow me as I walk around this gate that I was called out on a service call to.

All the same typical problems I see in Atlanta. So many of my jobs are because of someone installing gate openers that doesn’t have a clue. I’ve taken so many pictures of bad work over the past 20 years. I think one day I should do a video of those to educate people on what bad work looks like.

That’s crazy. They should give you the contract to do a proper reinstallation.

They should have never hired this company, about 4-5 years ago I used them as a sub-contractor and they told me to never let them back on any of their sites. Shocker - they still do substandard work. Happy NY! Glad you got the boat out!

Thank you for watching! I believe schooling may be specific to your geographical region. I would work backwards from the manufacturer. Check with one of them to see were to buy their product, these distributors typically will offer training classes.

@@AccentAlarms There’s just so many bad installers in our industry it’s sad. In all of Atlanta we have about 6 that know what their doing. Plus in today’s world getting help that wants to learn everything they need to know is about impossible. The few that do end up working for the larger companies or starting their own business after I’ve invested years in training them. The company’s that are the cheapest typically get the jobs from builders. Builders mostly are only concerned about the costs. I’m making a good living on jobs that are installed improperly but I’m also getting tired of doing this. At 57 I don’t want to be the guy digging the post holes anymore or correcting bad installations. Residential is even worse. Seems as though the bottom dollar bid get the job. Online prices are a dual edge sword and with a Everyone having access they believe they shouldn’t pay above the lowest online price for a system like a mighty mule. About 6 months ago I got a call from an elderly lady wanting to automate her single gate. A person that had done work in that area had quoted her $1100 for installing a mighty mule. I thought I was being nice and quoted her my actual cost for the Liftmaster system and $200 labor to install it. Even with all my warnings she went with the other guy. Then called me back when she never got the system she bought to work more than a week. She then wanted me to hold the warranty from another company and fix her system for free. I’m so tired.
