I hiked the LT in 2010 and have lived here since I was 14. Hilarious to see an outsiders perspective on the rain, mud, and never ending ups and downs! Gotta love it. Thanks for doing these. Best videos I’ve seen of the LT!

Glastenbury firetower holds a special place for me because I saw my wife's ultrasound of our kid while standing in the firetower! Thank you for taking me back there!! Hike on!

Nice video. Plenty of hardwood forest, wood planking, and shelters out east that is for sure and those hills are pretty cool. Funny, but again I notice that when you cross or are near a small creek, you call it a river, but when you were on the PCT a small lake or tarn was always a pond. Maybe they were actually called rivers but those things were small and beggin' for water, even though it was May, lol. I guess it is an east coast thing. Not a Zpacks fan but nice to see your love for hiking scored you a Zpacks job.

I just did 40+ miles on the Long Trail. Your blog makes it look like a walk in the park. No mention of the 800 ft steep rocky decent to route 9. The climb up to Condon Shelter is no treat and the climb up Stratton is 1700+ from the dirt road in 2.8 miles. Nice breezy, no sweat romp for you. For many it is much more taxing. Oh, the mud is a real concern.

Bravo Redbeard! Thanks for your video's. I found you over a year ago and inspired by watching your AT thru hike video's I planned a section hike on the AT with my son after he graduated college this year. We ended our hike from PA to Harpers Ferry on May 31 as you started the Long Trail. Keep up the good work. Stay healthy and happy hiking.

Well, this was a pleasant surprise. Next year I plan on doing the AT, and if I have enough time (which I think I should barring any real setbacks) I intend to do the north 2/3rd of the LT south back down to Rutland. I looked up Yellow Deli and its not far from the train station. Not even .2 of a mile. I've already got the idea to take the train from Rutland to NYC. Then change trains onward to Palatka, FL. the closest station to where my mom lives. I'm looking forward to the next 2 parts.

Hey Will - really enjoying you narration. Thanks for your efforts. I am a bit surprised you have not mentioned how "greasy" the planks can be when wet. Maybe you are trying not to walk on them.
@RedBeard09246 жыл бұрын
They were slick but weirdly enough not too bad and I always walk on the board walks if they are not broken. I think hiking the Superior Hiking Trail which has endless boardwalks prepared me for this trail, not to mention the Overland Track but those boardwalks were nicer with metal traction on them.

Hey man cool series , I checked out all the episodes. I lived in Vermont in the 90s . All videos I’ve seen of the AT and Long Trail, no one showed the Long Trail Inn . It’s between Killington access road and Pico ski mountain on route 4 on top of Pico pass. I lived on route 4 in Killngton. Is my memory incorrect? Good job with all of your videos

Yes. You could resupply in Bennington or Manchester Center. We went into Manchester Center and I actually bought more food there. Hitching in Vermont was super easy as Vermonters are friendly and outdoorsy people.

I've been waiting for this video since you announced that you were going to hike the L.T.! Awesome surprize to get to finally see it! Helps out a bunch as I am planning my thru hike of the L.T. this september! BIG QUESTION.... Would you say I should bring more or a winter set up? I start september 7th and I caught you say you were glad you had your 20 degree bag and winter cloths?

@RedBeard09246 жыл бұрын
This was edited on my computer post hike using Final Cut Pro. In the past I would try and edit from the trail but it slows me down too much on my hikes and I had issues with upload speeds. Not to mention editing from your phone provides you with less options.
@MarmaladeOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Will Wood Thank you Will, I live in San Diego and section hike the PCT almost every week and going up into the Sierra in a few weeks. I’m growing my channel here with my hikes and am looking to step up my videos a little bit. Is it a complex software to learn or not too bad? Btw I’ll be at PCT Days this year, will you be there again?
@RedBeard09246 жыл бұрын
It really isnt too complicated at all. I would say the toughest part is just figuring out where different features are located. After you edit one video you will essentially be good to go from then on.

Just curious about the Yellow Deli.. did they try to promote joining their religious cult community while staying there or do they keep that quiet? Nice footage on the trail! That's on my list after finishing my sections of the AT!
@RedBeard09246 жыл бұрын
Todd Stull they didn’t say one thing about joining. They didn’t even say anything about what or who they were besides leaving a small pamphlet by the beds. They were just friendly and social.

Duplex for sure. The Plexamid has good room for a 1 person tent but it’s tough to beat the space of the Duplex and now our tents are even lighter due to a change with our tape. 👍👍

Sal Monella oh trust me I’m with ya, but when you’re in debt and you need medical insurance it complicates things, especially when you have very little in savings. I’d basically come back homeless and broke. At my age it’s not a great idea. But I still want to do it.

great videos as usual. not too hip on the yellow deli twelve tribes cult places, but i guess you do what ya gotta do. we have them here in japan as well down near kyoto. creepy vibes of way too nice all around. a bit pushy with the propaganda and recruiting tactics as well. at least they were like that here. never been to one stateside. anyway, keep up the great videos.

i am enojoying these videos. i am watching a lot of LT vids because it's been a dream of mine since childhood but i haven't been able. now, closing in on 60, i'm starting to look at it again. i won't be doing any 20 mile days and it will be all in sections, but i'm finally going to do it. a long time ago i bushwhacked and used old logging roads to go up glastenbury mountain from the east side. i carried a whole extra sandwich, which i brought up for whatever thru hiker i might meet. you'd have thought it was christmas morning that way that boy's eyes lit up. and i took his trash down, too. because it's good luck to feed thru hikers.
