Just wanted to thank you for making these family friendly videos. My husband I thru-hiked the LT in 2001 and we wanted to give our three kids a taste of the trail we experienced. We enjoyed revisiting the trail through this 3 part video series and it definitely jogged our memory. And it was neat to see some new bridges since we were on the trail. Thanks for sharing.

Love these videos. Thanks for the hard work. You young bucks are in good shape. It gives me added respect for Shug and the Maple King for tackling that trail....wow.

Great 3 part series. Thanks for taking us along on what looked like an awesome journey. The trail and the mountain top views were beautiful. So many of the shelters look like they put the ones on the AT away.

Great set of videos on the LT hike. Have mainly done sections in southern VT other then camel's hump. You did a good job showing how the trail changes as you move north.

Very cool video. Congratulations on completing the LT. The trail was so rugged and the views were breathtaking! I followed you on the AT and that started me following thru hikers. Thanks for sharing this adventure, I enjoy you style of filming and your commentary. What's next Will?

Really glad you have enjoyed my videos. Up next we are heading to Utah to hike the Uinita Highline Trail. Most of the 100 mile long hike is over 10,000’ and we will be working on a documentary for this hike. I will be doing my normal video as well.

I love your videos! Such good energy. Just found your channel and I have recently gotten into hiking sections of the long trail. I am a student from VT right now but hopefully I'll hike longer trails in the future! Also, I agree that people should keep their dogs on a leash it is inconsiderate on the trails oh my goodness

Thanks for the link. Just finishing up your video of your LT hike. Bummer you didn't get the views from Mansfield and Jay due to weather but man, the other views kind of make up for it. Going North to south from Journeys End to Mansfield in August. Going with Zpacks for my big 3 and more. This vid got me thinking more carefully about my prep seeing how hard it is in the northern sections. Thanks for making the vid.

I grew up in the Northeast Kingdom, just to the east of Jay. Those sections are where I started hiking when I was about ten, fifty years ago. Belvedere is my favorite fire tower anywhere on the LT/AT 🙂. When it’s windy it almost feels like you’re flying.

The sign posts are beautiful (as is the trail) . That might sound weird, but it would have been much easier and cheaper to crank out some strips of lettered metal. But someone has taken the trouble to craft natural looking pleasing wood signposts. Some one who loves that trail.
@BackpackingStealth6 жыл бұрын
how much water did you normally cary/fill up at sources? And, do all the shelters have a nearby reliable source? any ticks? and what degree sleeping bag? awesome video series
@jerrymcsendy5 жыл бұрын
haha up in the Northeast dogs are usually off-leash on hiking trails. I feel most hikers up here are cool with it, usually people who let their dogs off know their dogs will do no harm. Your videos are great bro, inspires me to do more thru hiking!

Will, from your recollection, northern VT vs southern maine in difficulty, which do you think is tougher? im going to be attempting the long trail in aug or sept and this looks a lot like southern maine hiking, what are your thoughts?
@RedBeard09246 жыл бұрын
They are very similar but I would say parts of northern Vermont were tougher. But really very similar. I think it would be tough to tell a difference. We had issues with down trees, by aug or sep you should be good to go.

Yeah, GMC does a lot of trail work, but they are also responsible for cutting trees on the summits to "improve" the view. Erosion then sets in and bingo, open rock. They deny this, of course.
@strathack336 жыл бұрын
Wow! It is hard to believe that tree cutting is responsible for all of that "open rock" on the Long Trail. And those rascally GMC guys removed all of the stumps also. Again WOW, and who knew!! Thank you!!!

Can you please steer me towards any info that explains miles hiked/walked vs. actual miles listed on trail maps? Seems like it's measured differently. My mileage on maps is half of what my actual miles appears as activity on iphone.#rookie #stillhikingitall
@RedBeard09246 жыл бұрын
Trail maps are often not completely accurate. I really just recommend using Guthook Apps for the more famous long distance trails. The mileage is extremely accurate often times more so than maps and other guide books. Also many step counters are not completely accurate. It’s always fun to compare Guthook actual mileage vs what my phone or watch registers. Hope this helps.

Mr big Mr bigger my dogs r free always but I live in Alaska. I would hate to leash them . My pace is definitely not my fun for them
@mtadams20092 жыл бұрын
I alway let my dogs run free when I hike or pack back. My dogs are in a leash enough as it is. My dogs are very well behaved and love the woods. I was going to take them in the LT but decided on only taking them in the first 100 miles. It looks a little to rough after Rutland.
