It is really cool technology, but by listening to your explanation of the turning radius reduction because of the "base of the truck" angle, it seems that the solution (I know it can't be that easy) should be to offer different angled bases and/or different shaped cams. I actually like the fact that you have to lean more and get a more radical angle on the deck to carve (like surfing yeah!). Good job guys, I really enjoy what you do (and I am a 48 year-old "longboard for fun" person) I was hooked with your trucks since I watched, by chance, your video riding your "strange looking" deck with the "Shark wheels", initially the wheels caught my attention, but when I saw the trucks and the way they performed, I thought, wow this is it! this is really something original, I want to have those!!! But now, I confess, I'm waiting for your new "floating cam" and maybe better materials on the "o rings", but hopefully I will buy them, sooner or later.

Yes, you can still get speed wobble, but not very easily. They are VERY stable in that regard, but preventing speed wobble in not what they are for.

A bushing in both end point channel gaps underneath the hanger would provide resistance for those who like to throw a little weight into slides. Also it would keep from "casing" the truck in lower degree turns at high speeds. The design is super sick, I would like to give em a try. But no doubt in the $350-400 range make them out of my league. Love the videos though, good vocabularies on technical descriptions.
@LongboardTechnology10 жыл бұрын
Actually, they are thankfully far cheaper than $400. A pair at the moment is "only" $100.And while doing that would provide resistance, it would also get in the way of the cam function.We have figured out a number of ways to incorporate bushings, however, they all take a fair bit of DIY.

Can you guys do a review on USA carveboards and their trucks?
@shinypear3269 жыл бұрын
I like the idea behind the trucks, I just feel that since it is such a tightly packed mechanism, it won't absorb any vibrations from the road. The majority of the roads where I live are very rough and require a lot of shock-dampening from shock pads, bushings and flex from the board itself. Would there be some sort of solution to give it better shock-absorption?
@Movieman19655 жыл бұрын
Maybe they can make the hanger with rubber surrounding the axles or on the topside of the axle (the load bearing side) to absorb shock? I know they will figure it out! They did come up with this latest version and it keeps getting better!
@Movieman19655 жыл бұрын
How good are the Other Planet trucks for carving? If you mount them to a Fiber Glass/Bamboo drop-through deck how will it perform? Oh wait, that base plate will not work for a drop-through deck! Oh man! I like the concept a lot! Please figure out a base plate design that works with a drop-through deck so I can try it out. Oh but maybe I can mount them on a regular drop deck in the meantime? Yeah, I believe this is doable for now. But it would be really great if you have an optional base plate that works for drop-through decks! Thanks for this evolutionary design!!!
@LongboardTechnology5 жыл бұрын
They can be pretty good for carving, but they need to be wedged. At least a +5 deg on the front, but if you could get a 10 on the front and a 5 on the rear that would be really carvy. They're already really low, and honestly if you were to somehow mount them drop through, your board would get rail bite, and if you were to mount them on a drop deck, you wouldn't want more than 1/2 an inch of drop or so.
@Movieman19655 жыл бұрын
@@LongboardTechnology You know, I tried Avenue Suspension Trucks the other day. I thought the suspension feature would be good for carving but I was wrong! It's good for skatepark tricks like drops off rails because it absorbs the impacts. But after trying many different bushings and adjusting the bushing nut for different tensions I couldn't get them to produce any spring back of any kind for carving. My assumption is that every time I would push on the board trying to carve the suspension feature sucks up all the energy/thrust negating any spring back. So yeah, I recommend the Avenue Suspension trucks for skatepark tricks that would have a high impact potential to reduce fatigue on the knees, feet and ankles. Do the OP Trucks have spring back for carving? How does it compare to regular barrel bushing spring back? It appears every truck design has pros and cons.

@osiritis17018 жыл бұрын
I have a question, will these help with speed wobbles? Every time I come out of a turn I get speed wobbles, will these very much lessen the chance of speed wobbles? I head that since the Polyurethane of the bushings pushes back on your pressure it causes speed wobbles?
@mattyohare88098 жыл бұрын
Osiritis yes they should. Speed wobbles occur when a truck is attempting to find its equilibrium due to the inherent characteristics of the bushings (like a bouncy ball). Since there are no bushings there is no energy transference, no equilibrium to be found.

Would these be a lot more stable for downhill compared to the Caliber 44's?
@LongboardTechnology10 жыл бұрын
Um, Yes and no? Comparing the stability becomes a bit difficult. The 44 is rakeless ( I think ) and you can really set it up with bushings that can give you more stability than you'll ever need. But if you're trying to set up a board to be loose, and still be able to bomb, then in that situation, OP would likely be more stable. It really depends a lot on what you're looking for, outside of stability.
@drewdle10010 жыл бұрын
Im probably going to just get the 44's for now until i have enough money for OP's. Thanks for the fast response.

That 17° angle. I wonder if this design is limited to this shallow angle due to friction against the sides of the cam at angles past 17°.

I would advice to put it on an EVO (landy) type or Omen (kush-chief) boards in which the front truck is more turny and the back truck is close to zero degree turn (you will have to put at least an inch raisors and fairly big wheels like Kegels) Then you will rape the benefits of these trucks to the fullest !

Good idea but honestly I could just get sidewinder trucks if I wanted to turn sharp...
@marccawood10 жыл бұрын
Doubt I could afford these babys but they sound very unstable. We all tighten our bushings to get a smooth ride at high speed and no wobbles but these trucks seem to be like riding with no bushings! Like an Original S10 but with even more "falling off a cliff sideways" lean. Also no suspension from bumps in the road which RKP bushings provide. I guess the proof is in the riding though...
@LongboardTechnology10 жыл бұрын
They're actually very stable. Kingpin trucks operate like a teeter totter, and any weight on the deck will cause the board to enter into a turn. All bushings do is reduce this effect, but they cannot eliminate it. So in practice, kingpin trucks do not have a center, and are always in some level of turning. Where weight on kingpin trucks initiates turning, weight on Other Planet trucks, causes them to travel straight. Imagine a rocking chair. The big long rockers on the bottom? They're functionally the same thing as these cams. When you rock in a rocking chair, you don't experience "Falling off a cliff Sideways lean", you experience a comfortable, and controllable transition as you lean. That's the same experience you get with OPs.
@killinlikebobdylan10 жыл бұрын
ive been riding these for three years now and yeah what he said. balancing on like six inches or so of cam instead of whatever like 1/2 inch bolt and bushing combo is whey way nice. no orings, nothing pushing you out of whatever turn/slide you are in is way cool. i trim my cams at the outside edge because they dont feel turny enough but yeah wedges work too i bet
@Movieman19655 жыл бұрын
@@killinlikebobdylan I believe what you said is the key to various applications with this truck design. The CAMS ! That's the key element here! Determine the best CAM shape for different riding styles, downhill, carving, pushing, etc. Also obviously the base plate angles as well. But this is definitely a very good development in skateboard truck technology. I believe the closest thing I have seen, but haven't tried yet, is the Curfboard trucks developed by some German engineer. Look it up, Curfboard on KZbin.

I've had my eyeballs on OtherPLanet trucks for so long, but these Curfboard trucks just blew my mind on kickstarter right now.
@LongboardTechnology8 жыл бұрын
This is the first I've heard of them. I'm halfway through their kickstarter video right now, they seem pretty interesting. Shares a lot in common with OPs, both advantages, and some of the drawbacks. OP's have struggled to get enough resistance to take them in real DH, which means they struggle to gain traction with some of the most adamant riders out there, and I foresee similar struggles with the curfboard. On the other hand, they don't look like they'll need much maintenance of upkeep, no fiddly tuning, without parts that will wear out or wear down.
@RipBChord8 жыл бұрын
The curfboard trucks do look like quite a complicated solution. OPs got that simplicity I still really admire. Some Occam's Razor type shit. In the end I'll go with the OP's, but this just caught my eye, thought I'd share some new longboard tech, with my favorite longboard tech channel!. thanks for the reply!
@RipBChord8 жыл бұрын
I had another question for you if you have the time. Freebording has been a hobby of mine for quite a few years, and OP mechanics seem to me to be the ultimate in truck tech for that smooth carving feeling. So basically I'm hoping to get your thoughts on modifying some Freebord trucks, or fabricating something with the OP hanger style to achieve that snowboard carve feeling. As that is basically where the Freebord falls short in snow simulation. Would this even be feasible? Or would there be some reason why that might be dangerous and/or a bad idea?

I have to say, a friend of mine sent me your videos to check your trucks out, and I was really excited when he was describing them, but highly disappointed when i laid eyes on them, even more disappointed when i seen his set. You guys have probably one of the most innovative and best designed skateboard trucks on the market. Yet... you use injected molded glass filled nylon ? Give me a break. First off, knowingly supporting DuPont as a company is morally suspect. Aside from that. You have completely shut your company out of huge potential sales by coating that hangar in garbage. We were riding your trucks in a skatepark attached to a modern street deck, the bowl and the mini/half pipe was a dream, great stability awesome control, yet Grinding or even stalling on the coping felt like I was like riding a $10 wal-mart board thanks to that coating. The rest of the park was okay but don't even think about nailing that rail or ledge.. You could be the dominating truck manufacturer in both street and long-boarding by far if you just made the hangar's coating out of aluminum alloy instead. The lack of constructional foresight is really sad, in a product with such great design.

@LongboardTechnology8 жыл бұрын
I think it was because of the high tolerance of cast plastic over cast aluminum, and the better low friction characteristics. Aluminum on aluminum would just be horrendous, so there'd need to be a whole separate plastic part made to keeping an aluminum channel and aluminum hanger from toughing each other.

+Nelly Nelson looking at the design of the truck and how loose they are that he can push them to their full tilt/lean that is a definite no. regular trucks are still far more advanced.
@mattyohare88098 жыл бұрын
Nelly Nelson yes they should lessen or eliminate speed wobbles. It's actually the bushings themselves attempting to achieve equilibrium that are the source of speed wobbles. Think of it this way: bounce once in a trampoline and you will continue to bounce due to the kinetic energy until the trampoline dissipates the energy. Now think of a see saw: Once energy (you and a friend) cease to push off the see saw ceases to keep moving. Same concept with these trucks.
