I've watched a lot of your videos recently, tried out your principles on the range and just can't stop smiling.What a revelation! So far it seems I get the highest club speed and best control of the push when I don't use thumb or index finger in the grip (right hand) at all. Rather, most of the pressure of the club is towards the base of the index finger. Does that make sense?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad4 ай бұрын
I'm happy I could get you to try my tips and ideas. I needed to hit some balls before I answered. I also use the base of my index finger to push. 👍

I'm 70+ years old focusing on the trail arm is helping regain distance. I realized speeding my body rotation up is unrealistic but I'm able to speed up my trail arm release. Your technique has helped improve my driver carry distance by over 20 yards on average and I feel I can gain more speed( my long drives are 30+ yards of carry). Interestingly my accuracy has actually improved. Im not sure why but it has. The other benefit is I quickly can figure out what Im doing wrong. Instead of a bunch of swing thoughts. Too early too late or correct is my only focus.

Thanks Marcus for your outstanding instruction. Is there anything specific you have focused for the trail arm release; in order to time up clubface at impact. I suppose this is a very individual preference, but dialing in solid contact with a properly timed release with a high level of consistency is a real challenge for me. I guess the eyes and where to focus is the dilemma for me; if eyes on ball I am late and releasing quite a bit before the ball, or focusing behind the ball leads to contact issues.
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad3 ай бұрын
My own way is to always practice a late timing, an early release and the good release. That gives me feelings to tell me what is good or bad. It takes a lot of practice but we all need to do it. 👍

I love the drill of releasing with no rotation to find the low point on the ground BEFORE the ball, because we know that when we swing we will rotate, but the image and muscle memory of releasing into the ground early will carry us through. Thanks again, Marcus

Pardon me if this sounds like a strange question but the way that you throw your hands over your lead shoulder reminds me of Annika Sörenstam so the question is: Is this a Swedish technique? BTW, I was at the range this morning and I was concentrating on doing the same, the results were amazingly powerful drives. Thanks again!
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad13 күн бұрын
I would love to say that it's something Swedish but it isn't. You can look att almost any good golfer that hits a draw and you will find the same motion or very close to the same motion. 👍

Marcus, thank you for all of your wise words and instruction. I was shooting low 80’s high 70’s a little over a year ago when I found your channel. Average driver of the ball, poor iron striker, but a short game that always saved me. Your top tip that helped me was to look in the mirror. Realizing the instruction I had bought into was killing my back and elbow, I started practicing with the circle of speed mentality. Gave up trying to contort my body to get impact positions of the pros. It didn’t take long for iron strikes to become more consistent, but my driver was still weak and inconsistent. Still i was able to shoot low to mid 70s regularly. This trail arm release idea finally just clicked when I was watching. I immediately went out to try this. It was so consistent just thinking about that one thing (straighten the trail arm) and letting my body turn smooth and natural. You are 100% correct … it was magic. Easy swing that generates more speed. I finally shot my first sub 70 round (69) on Saturday with 12/14 fairways. Today at the driving range it’s still there. Very consistent. I’m not exaggerating when I say you’ve changed my game completely this past year or so. Thank you!

Thanks my friend. You don't need to stall anything as long as you learn to start with a push back and down from the top. That will delay the turn to the target. Go try it. 👍

Marcus question : with your average driver shots is your setup in the neighborhood of 20 degrees closed to your target line or what ? Appreciate your reply
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad3 ай бұрын
Never closed. Online with the target or slightly open. A closed stance would block my trail side from working properly. Camera angles can make it look funny sometimes but my swing would stop working if I close my stance.

@GolfwithMarcusEdblad4 ай бұрын
I wish I could tell you that but it's not possible. Depending on the strength of the grip and the shot we are trying to hit we can not all do the same. That is why I talk about late or early because then I can watch the ball flight for answers.

Another great video Marcus. What driver loft would you recommend for the avg golfer? Would 9 degrees be a good starting point?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad4 ай бұрын
Impossible to say. Most golfers need a lot more than 9 to get a good ball flight but when we learn to hit up on the ball a 9 degree driver will probably work okey. 👍

Thanks Marcus I tried your driver swing and it went very well for 9 holes, then I started to send the ball skyhigh and straight. Released too late ? Or any thoughts. Thanks

@GolfwithMarcusEdblad4 ай бұрын
In 15 years I have never met a person who releases their driver to early so it has been a non issue. We need to tee it high enough and we cannot put the ball to far forward but otherwise, no problem.

When I commit to this driver technique, driving the ball becomes so much simpler. Nice high draws with plenty of distance. It took me a while to realize that I just need to tee the ball high. If I try this with a low tee, I have to hold the release.

@jarihissa72554 ай бұрын
How much weight distribution effects with hitting up. I feel like i am doing everything right. Early release and swing in to out, but i hit it very high on the face constantly regardless of tee height. I realised that my weight is about centered at the end of backswing and my head stays pretty centered also. Should i move almost all weight to the trail foot in the backswing and let my head move with it, would this help in hitting more upwards. Right now it feels that no matter where i release i still cant manage to hit up properly.
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad4 ай бұрын
Where you hit it on the face has very little to do with weight distribution and a lot to do with hand eye coordination. Try to hit as low on the face as you can and see if you can move your impact closer to where you want it.
