Great hints. These summer children don't remember the days when we submitted books and left the incoming slabs in our wills.

My initial reaction to the long turn around times at CGC was that CGC will always disappoint us. They transition from scandal to long turnarounds to price increases. I also remember measuring how long it took to get books back in SEASONS instead of months - submit in summer and get them back in the spring of the next year. However, much like you said Bry, longer turnaround times will probably mean a larger price premium for graded books for those of us that invest, submit and are patient! 💰

Bry has recommended you. I'd like to get a small stack of books cleaned and pressed and graded. I've never done it and these books are not big grails or anything. They're for my PC. I don't even know how to start the process. If you clean and press books do you then send them on to CGC?
@jasonhbush3 күн бұрын
I don’t see the price premium hitting for some time. There is a massive supply of graded books out there. Every show and site has the standard spec or it books. I don’t mind the wait but the quality control is just so bad I would rather wait for PSA or try another company. They run their business poorly. Numerous unforced errors and not an ounce of contrition.

I can vouch for the turn-around time as I sent in five siler age Avenger books which I believe CGC received August 23rd. It is November 18th and I have heard nothing. As you said, it is what it is.

People keep neglecting to mention their recent grading sale. They offered for the almost entire month of October a pretty decent discount on grading fees “10/10 Day”. Plus we just had New York comic con so tons of submissions were done there too and then you add on employee layoffs and, boom. Substantially increased turnaround. My previous submission from a few months ago came back to me within less than four weeks.

Just out of curiosity I gave CGC a call today as the new 81 day wait period was revealed on my books 47 day at their facility. I wanted to know if the new turn around would be compounded. Of course I knew it wouldn't, but I wanted to get a sense of how backed up they are. The customer service agent was amazing as always and we had a nice chat. Would you believe there are some 40,000 books in the arrears!? Welp they are and IMO to no fault of their own (well maybe a little). CGC has an unsurmountable task that manifests by being bombarded by greedy vendors dumping pallet after pallet of BS books in an attempt to get a 9.8/9.9. True there is the collector that submits a 50 book for slabbing but a fool and his money are...... With respect to the PV they are not the cause of CGCs 40+ thousand woes. Wonder who then, I wonder who....? So how does CGC solve this debacle. Easy. RAISE PRICES SUBSTANTIALLY!!! I could go on and on but that last tid but should keep you dastardly vendors busy. Or not. Whatever.

@@LG-kw6fn the only books I’ve seen massive dumps are what are considered modern. Hulk 181 and similar titles Wolverine. CGC ran discount specials and took on too much work. This is correct. Right now, it does seem to be taking longer to get books back. Right now, I have a modern book sitting for about a month. No worries on that. CGC grew too quickly thinking the comic book would never end. Now, with interesting in the hobby waning, plus all the scandals (banana-gate, beholder-gate, etc) there have got to be far fewer submissions and, a need to cut costs. All those folks who are comic enthusiasts who moved to Sarasota to work the grading floor are out of jobs. Say what one will about CGC but I feel for those graders who got to live the dream for a little while and are now back to working the check out stand at Walmart.

I'm boycotting cgc. Seven moderns. I got back in early September - All had the bends - All graded at 9.8. Three books had dimpled spine on the cover from the bend. Two out of those three books had color breaking spine tick where the spine dimple was. All graded at 9.8. They ruined two out of seven books for sure. I cannot sell those books at a 9.8 with that color breaking spine tick on the cover. And I took detailed pictures of the books before and they did not have a spine tick otherwise I would not have sent them in. And CGC won't do a darn thing about it. They won't replace the books that they damage with the same book at the same grade nor will they give me the fair market value for the book graded at a 9.8. It's a bad look for CGC.
