Before the advent of pressing and cleaning, I’ve submitted books to CGC that came back 9.8 and 9.6. You could even see the centerfold in the slab, it wasn’t a pancake.

That was a huge win! I had another similar success story in December: X-Men 266 Mark Jeweler's Newsstand CPR'ed from 9.2 to 9.8. Now a $10000 book and I only charged him $18!

Awesome interview, Bry! It’s always great to hear from experienced pressers like Ron who really understand the process. The before-and-after differences on some books are crazy-definitely proves that pressing can be a game-changer, especially for key issues or high-grade candidates. I think a lot of collectors hesitate because they don’t fully understand what pressing can (and can’t) fix, but this breakdown really helps clarify the value of it. Also, love the insights on when it’s worth pressing vs. when to leave a book alone. Keep up the great content-this kind of info is gold for collectors!

Great video! I had no doubt you would get great results from Ron. I’ve used his service for a year now. He is, of course, a great presser but what I brings me back to him is the person. There’s some big satisfaction in cleaning and pressing my own books and getting great results. But it’s so time consuming. Getting a solid 3rd party for the gig is sometimes just as satisfying.

Ron is great. A while back I messaged him back and forth about the process because I've never sent books into anything before, whether it's CGC or just pressing services like his, and he replied fast and walked me through everything. Will definitely be sending some books his way soon!

I don't even have to watch the video - the answer is YES. I bought my own press - learned how to properly press books and have bought lower grade slabed books and have re-submitted to CGC and got higher grade books. Do it yourself - a press is 150$ on amazon.

Do you recommend pressing and cleaning modern books or just older books? Why would a modern need immediate clean and press if so?

It really depends on a lot of factors. Things you would consider: if you intend to get it graded it is probably worthwhile to assure the highest grade. Does it have pressable damage and you want it improved for your PC or for sale? If you are selling it, will improving its appearance/condition/grade increase its value more than the pressing cost?

Sadly the answer is sometimes. I had some of my comics opened and pressed trying to get higher grades when I saw some non color breaking creases. They came back from CGC with lower grades than I started from. Not all but some. The best grade upgrade I ever got was from a 9.0 to a 9.4. But that only happened once. Overall it wasn’t worth it

There are definitely risks and costs! I also offer a pre-press screening option to provide realistic insight on feasibility of a grade bump. I really do not like CPR because it is so costly to press and regrade and I hate unhappy customers. Some are not worth taking the risk on!

If you dont have the time and have extra money to burn..by all means get your books professionally cleaned and pressed. But if you're like me, on a budget, ..guy, it's super easy to DIY. Do some research and practice for a few months and you'll get great results. But, it's also good to have a guy..especially for a big ticket book that you're nervous with
