Great video Nigel, this will give me confidence to do a 100 miles on a charge in my mini se. I must give the trip computer a try and zero the miles/kW as I must be on an average since I got the car. I wonder why you did not try the Green + mode, I know you switched of the aircon off but there might be other battery savings to be had. Looking forward to your next video.

Great info! We are looking at getting the Mini Electric for our daughter but the 114 mile est. EPA advertised range concerns me. Even though this is sort of a "hypermile" trip because of the low speeds (I'll look through your previous videos to find a highway/freeway trip) that's great that it went 170 miles on a single charge!
@EVPuzzle
@EVPuzzle 3 жыл бұрын
Our local area is slower traffic mostly so we average 5.1 miles per kwh. Theres a faster trip I've filmed but not edited on its way. Efficiency more like 4.4 miles per kwh so 130 mile range

@@EVPuzzle I still think that the Mini EV would be a great car for my daughter. We live in Southern California so everything is freeway driving (ugh) but she really doesn't go anywhere but college (38 miles from home) so this would work great.

@MrAmtrak207
@MrAmtrak207 2 жыл бұрын
That EPA estimate, like the one for my 2010 Cooper S, is mostly worthless. It assumes everyone uses full heat/AC and everyone hits 70 MPH on an expressway. The only time I got 114 miles on a charge was when it was -15 Fahrenheit. In the deep freeze through last winter he would only go around 95 miles on a charge due to the cold weather. On a long trip last October on an expressway, I averaged 2.8 miles/kWh. That was in colder temperatures, only slightly over freezing. I got the sense that this type of use is not what the car is intended to do. Now that things are above around 45 Fahrenheit, I am back to averaging 4.5-5.2 miles per kWh, which calculates to a range of 130 to 150 miles. That's a mix of downtown and 55-MPH territory. The car's onboard computer, referred to here as the Guess-O-Meter (love the term), is set up to be very conservative. The same applies to the battery; there is a cushion of 3.7 kWh built in, which will make it appear that the battery still fully charges, even after a few years of use. Green+ shuts down the air con and leaves the cabin fan on its lowest setting. It also cuts out the seat heating. I wonder why you used the lower regen setting; that reduces the amount of power you are recharging into the battery while/whilst decelerating. If you limit the car's speed, the range extends by a substantial amount. I am trying to avoid deep-discharging my batteries; done routinely this will damage them. I've been down to four miles twice now; you will notice the accelerating power on the power/brake meter will be limited during deep discharge. Over the next few weeks I would like to completely avoid high-speed driving and really see what this car can do. This should be an interesting weekend.

Oh OK, that's really good to know, I've only seen the Carwow one where they only sort of show you what happens. As soon as I get a bigger portable battery generator I'm going to do this again and go until it stops. They drove normally then when it was low, hypermiled. So long as the numbers add up, Mile per kwh x kwhs usable = miles driven. Any more must be using reserve kwhs

Very impressive economy. I don't need to faff about with the regen levels as my new Enyaq has auto regen so it reads the road ahead and lets the car coast if the road is clear of junctions and traffic.

Ah Enyak, now there's a car I'm curious about. Attractive, better than VW and a nice looking interior. £50k though for top. Spec seems a bit rich. I need to go and look in more detail. What spec have you got and how are you finding it comfort, drivability, range, efficiency?
@theotherstevesteve
@theotherstevesteve 3 жыл бұрын
I'd be interested to know how the Enyaq regen works in practice. It sounds like you're saying if you were driving down a section of road and there happens to be a junction nearby and you lift off it hammers on full regen and yet a few hundred yards down the same road away from the junction and you lift off it wont apply regen at all. Sounds terrifying, unless the engineers dialed out the variability by doing very little regen at all.

@enyaq_gorm

@@theotherstevesteve not like that at all, if you're approaching a roundabout or a t junction or a speed limit then ut recognises that, it tells you to lift off the power and it coasts yp to the junction with the right amount of regen. It's brilliant

So the GOM doesn't even get 0 correct :) It is the only thing I really don't like about my SE. It is basically useless and just contributes to range anxiety for those who can't calculate the real range. I have never gone down to 1% - I think my best is about 5%. On that day I had a (calculated) range of 270km on the nose (168 miles). Pipped me by two miles :)
@EVPuzzle
@EVPuzzle 3 жыл бұрын
Bet if you'd have driven those 2 miles it would be turned into 4. Its the not knowing that's annoying with the GOM. I reported to to my dealer yesterday telling him its the worst thing about the car setting off almost every trip witouth enough range but then magically having enough. It's too fake and contrived and could lead to people presuming there's another 10 miles in reserve. There may not be. But it's still a blooming good car and has a decent range when you want the range
