Italian here, I don't have a telepass because it's paid for. I hate paying for motorways because they're ridiculously expensive, so I avoid them like the plague. If the choice is taking 1 hour via motorway and pay 17€ for 100km (A4 Torino-Milano) or 90 minutes with a free state road, I'll choose the latter every single time. The telepass thingy costs 30€ a year and it's not worth it when 99% of the time going through the Viacard lane only takes me an extra 5 seconds and I only do it like once or twice a month.

You have no idea how many people claim they have mega bladder, but in fact, they don't:) I'm not saying this to offend you nor I'm denying your ability to drive 6 hours straight. What I meant is that many people complain about the range, and in reality its not the range they are afraid of. It's the idea of powerbank driving you around. And problem with all governments is, the longer people resist electric cars, the more they pay (in taxes) to people that have them. @onlineo22632 жыл бұрын
Impressive speed of charge, but charging up at 45% is almost criminal. You need your navigation to skip a charger and go to the next so you can arrive at 10% (±5%) . It really makes me value the Tesla navigation nearly as much as the superchargers. All in all I think I would love your car, but there is no way my wife would put up with it, and as we are a single car family I think we will have to stick with an our old model X for a while longer yet.

Really good video and beautiful car. I love those things. Only downside I can see is relatively short range on battery between stops. 9 stops and an average of 128 miles over the 1157 miles seems a lot. Upside is that it does charge quickly. Seems the car breaks the Ionity chargers that I think maybe over heat trying to deliver a high rate of charge for too long. Explains maybe why so many of those things are broken so often. Look forward to trip home and next video. Good editing too and commentary.
@heijxje2 жыл бұрын
The stops could have been farther between them, since he mostly seemed to arrive with 35 to 50% capacity left, which in absolute terms is almost the full capacity of a 1st gen ioniq (28kWh). If the preference for ionity were let go in ABRP, it might have been able to lose maybe 2, but at least one charging stop. Also I wonder if reducing your speed to 120 or 110 kmh would improve the efficiency as much as to lose another charging stop, thereby actually gaining time.

Once again, I'm in an EV with Andrew while he problem-solves his way from England to Italy. Absolutely fantastic video.. I did the exact same route many many years ago....(long distance lorry driver)) It took us a week...And a week to get back...Brought back some good memories 👍💯👍

Thank you for all your info on charging an EV in Europe, we currently all the way down in Herbolzheim Germany. Using Bonnet and our Kia charge card. We have a 39 kWh E Niro.

I agree with zollotech comment: your charging experience is really helpful for anyone thinking of buying an EV, especially this IONIQ 5. So I'll say we have a TESLA model S and love everything about the convenience of it's charging routes. Most enjoyable is the AC Dog Mode. It is an extreme comfort knowing anyone looking in sees that our pups are comfortable and happily waiting for us to return to the car. Thanks for sharing your educational journey to Italy!🤩🤓 p.s. adore your sweet Baby! 🥰

That's the kind of trip that nails the EV process. Thanks for sharing.

Loved the video...all set to continue my binge watch with episode 2. The pet passport bureaucracy was poignant and saddening.

Great video! I am half way, and will watch the other half, but I had to comment on your sliding thing at the toll booths. Get yourself a toll badge! You can pass without stopping, let alone sliding. You pay a small fee per calendar month using it. Really convenient.

The trip was too last minute to get one in time, but I got a Bip&Go when I did subsequent road trips in the Model 3 and Peugeot e-208.

Superb video. Could be a documentary. Appreciate the huge effort involved in producing this. Can’t wait for part 2 with Flaviana.

Loved your trip, and the interaction with the family 😂 ps het one of those dongles on your windshield for Télépéage, you also have them for multiple countries works like a charm (at least here in the NL we can get them) Have one in my campervan as well. You can drive straight through

Yes, this trip was a bit last minute so I didn’t have time to get the tag. I’ve used the Bip&Go for subsequent road trips which has been great.

I have also driven to Rome and southern Spain (in an ICE) a few times and this video reminded me of one of the main issues on these long drives, which is finding the time and places to eat. There are only so many French service station sandwiches one can stomach. If I take the I5 on such a quest I might invest in a small microwave and use the in-car V2L to heat some ready meals. The camping cool box would keep them fresh from the 12V in the boot.

@@MrEV i know a lot of people go too fast in italy, 20km/h more than the speed limit is good but some driver are crazy. The only problem is the wheel of fortune sound, i will bring it to the dealer maybe electric motor replacement 🫣

Nice informational trip but I would advise you to inform info the French Telepeage services. These allow you to pass the tollbooth without the issues. Allows you to pass directly at 30km/h. You can even take the Telepeage that allows you usage in France, Spain, Portugal and Italy. The service does not cost much extra's, you pay at usage and can even pay with Telepeage at parkings, even in Italy.

Some cars have inside ultrasonic sensors and you can disable them with a button. WV golt mkį has this button on the driver-side side pillar, lower than the seatbelt goes out of the pillar. The icon is like a car and a radio signal inside the car.

Great video, a toll tag is a great asset if you have a RHD vehicle, quick and easy to use, no more expensive than paying at the Peage

Many thanks for for this wonderful road-trip video. I always enjoy watching you, but this one is just the one I needed to scratch my roadtrip itch a little, which has been steadily increasing since I got back from my first EV long-distance trip (Munich North Cape in Fiat 500e).

You drink all that rest stop coffee, at some point you'll have to stop and wrestle the anaconda! Great video. Interesting to see the reality of a road trip in a modern EV. Seems pretty straightforward. BTW. Honeywell Howard Leight ear plugs are super comfy for sleeping in. I've tried them all.
