Family of 3 1/2 donkeys finds hope and gets a second chance

Longhopes does it again!
When we got a call that three donkeys needed rescuing, we didn't hesitate. We opened our doors and welcomed this family to Longhopes. They all received vaccinations, deworming, vet care, dental care, and farrier care. Once they were no longer in pain from their previous neglect, we spent months training them on their basic skills so they would be ready to find a new home. We thank Living Springs Veterinary Care in Bennett, CO for the incredible care they provided and also to Splendor Hooves LLC for the amazing hoof care. We couldn't do it without you!
When Georgetta had baby Charlotte, she decided to stay very close to her and take care of her. Dusty and Forest were already very bonded and so they started to grow apart from Georgie and Charlotte. This allowed them to find a wonderful adoptive home just a few months after their rehabilitation. Georgetta and Charlotte found a home a few months after that, once Charlotte was old enough to leave the shelter.
For our training technique: we often do training one donkey at a time. At the begining of their training, the donkeys struggled being apart from one another and so all of them were trained together. As the days and weeks passed, they became more confident thanks to their training and we were able to do more individualized training.

I absolutely love watching your videos. I am 71 and my unrealized, lifelong dream of keeping a pair of miniature horses has just been altered to a dream of keeping a bonded pair of donkeys.
