Take 2 minutes, grab a cup of tea, sit somewhere comfortable and join in a moment of reflection.
I asked my dear friend Sarah Yardley, a woman who has devoted her life to prayer and mission, to write a prayer inspired by Between the Shadow and the Sun. As we start the new year, let's acknowledge that the grace and light of Christ is what gives us the strength to persevere. xx
Longing for the day - Sarah Yardley
I sit in the shadowlands,
Echoing aches.
Seeing the edges of wounds,
Unhealed.
Watching the weight of burdens,
Still carried.
Weeping for all the sin,
Lingering.
I am ready for the dawn,
Still coming,
Longing for the day.
And even in the grey,
I see her approach.
Arriving through the shadows,
Near.
In the twilight spaces,
I turn.
Shadows reveal the edges of
Bright glory.
I breathe deep and choose
Hope (again).
Not in my own strength
(Ebbs and flows).
Through the chaos,
I find grace.
Peel back the layers,
Shedding old skin.
Here is life, light, joy,
Mercy new.
To see the liminal space,
Aching.
Between the shadow and the sun,
Longing.
To know the kindness of my God,
With me.
Pursuing my heart with love,
Now and forever.
So Father, be near,
On the days when all seems dark,
Let me trust the ancient promise,
You will swallow up death forever.*
Jesus, you are the bright morning star**
Forever dawning in my heart,
Gift me with brightness of your love,
Today and always.
Spirit, you hover over
Dark and unformed places,***
Calling out life, light, beauty.
Call out the day,
To my longing heart.
