Definitely. The pine body sounds most punchy to my ears with the rosewood sounding more mellow and warm and the other one is in between. I am obsessed with owning the Lake Placid blue with rosewood neck since I discovered it online, but I'll have to keep saving and hope one is still around by the time I can afford it. Been on a 2001 Mexican HSS 'Fat Strat' for most of my playing life, but am mainly an acoustic player so that's been totally sufficient for my needs.

@@jackmchammocklashing224 That's very strange, there should be an obvious tone difference between different pickup positions. We'd suspect there's something amiss with the wiring. Test the pickups/selector. Get a screwdriver or something metallic, plug the guitar into an amp, and tap the pole pieces with the screwdriver on each pickup as you flip the pickup selector. Make sure that each position on the switch correctly corresponds to the right pickup(s).

You can just get a player series and modify it to your liking for a fraction of the cost of a USA model. I got mine for $250 at a pawn shop. Also seen ads on Facebook marketplace around $350. Couple hundred for mods and you're good to go. Only reason to get a USA model is if you want to avoid the used market and want real rosewood, but tripling the price isn't really worth it imo

I've got Strats practically falling from the ceiling! 😂 Started with a new American Standard in '91, and my most recent is a Pro II, and then practically everything in-between! I remember getting my 3rd or 4th one was my '98 Deluxe. Man! What a great Strat it remains to this day I moved the VN pickups and entire to a great 90s MIJ 50s RI Foto Flame (anyone remember those?) and put Fralin "Woodstock '69" pickups and new electronics into it. Another fun mod was to take advantage of the swimming pool route in my '91 and put triple p90s in it. Sounds unlike any other, but still has that Strat essence.

To choose between the Stratocaster's, on Fender site was questionnaire to help, and suggest which one guitar is the best for you. It was about time of corona lock down, I fulfilled that very carefully in all details, with exactly my personal preferences to choose some of vintage Strat with one piece maple neck appropriate to me - from whole Fender production. To believe or not, the result I got was exactly - Squier by Fender Classic Vibe Stratocaster Maple Neck 2TS (two tobacco sunburst), which continuously get good reviews from all sides I noticed. I ordered that guitar from a local dealer shop because there was not in stock. But when appeared, unfortunately because of corona restrictions the seller was so feared and nervous I could not even to try much the guitar (he gave me 5 minutes), then I gave up although started to like it. The neck was gorgeous, slim, gloss finished without stupid satin "fast" back (usual not only for Squier). Just a few days ago I ordered it again, but the difference between newer and older version will be about something cheaper Pine instead standard Alder body - bad, but I will see when the guitar will appear. Difference between that Classic Vibe Strat, and vintage USA genuine's is about polyurethane instead nitro finish, also the pickups including practically the same all Player (Mexican) series - I will change for sure, then will make fine guitar setup including fret's leveling, and hope for the best. After all of that, it seems only another way for me is to order from much more expensive Custom Shop department ...

I’ve always had a problem with people calling the Strat the most ergonomic guitar. There’s a few gripes I have with its design that are likely due to poor technique user error whatever. The number one thing is pro and a con I wish the volume knob was just a little further from the bridge, not tele space between but enough to where when I’m palm muting I’m not accidentally messing with my volume but that also make swells a littler harder to pull off. Also there’s been many innovations in ergonomics like the strandberg, that body like it or not is hands down the most versatile body for a guitar I’ve ever used. High fret access while good on a Strat is out matched by guitars with deep cutaways or just clean neck joints. Don’t get me wrong it’s a very good body and especially for how early on in the electric guitars life that it was invented but there’s definitely better.

Just to let you know, don’t yell at me, that this is only the second video of yours I’ve seen, yet both videos have had issues with guitar tuning. It may not hurt your ears right now, but if you take the time to be more picky about tuning, eventually your ear will train itself to hate the sound of an out-of-tune guitar, and then you will understand why it is compulsory to tune that guitar before you record, always.

Nope - even listened a second time with eyes closed as suggested. Upside is that my tone deafness (excellent hearing though) will save me a ton of cash when picking out an axe and amp. (Hello Walmart Buzz Lightyear guitar!) Seriously, I've been narrowing down the Fender line, figured out the Strat vs. Tele differences a couple of days ago, then arrived at the Strat Ultra as being the build quality, pickup specs and rear body carve-outs deserving of a rather blind spend by a retired noob who finally has enough time, $$$$ and an empty house with which to learn to play a guitar. Can't quite justify the additional 1/3 price jump to go with a Luxe - it would only be for vanity to be able to say "It was the best they made when I bought it way back in '24". My ears wouldn't notice the different body wood species and my great-grandkids can buy their own guitar rather than trying to wear down the stainless frets which a Luxe would come with for me. Instead, I'll put that $603 toward an amplifier. While the Mustang GTX100 looks good for $400 including a cat claw defensive cover and floor switchbox, I might need a towering Marshall stack just because it'll make me chuckle whenever I walk into the living room to watch the Jetsons or mid-1960s Batman reruns. In this era of $50k+ pickup trucks, guitar gear is reasonably priced fun without ongoing, post-purchase insurance, licensing and maintenance costs. Will look to see if you guys have done a comparo on amps... Thx for a worthy vid! I'm subbed now.

@longandmcquade9 ай бұрын
It mostly came down to which one was in-stock and available at the time of shooting. But we still contend that it was a good choice for demonstration purposes because most signature models are the standard 3-single coils and vibrato bridge setups, which isn't all that unique among a lineup of 16 other very similar guitars. The single humbucker, the hardtail bridge and simplified control layout of the Tom Delonge Strat gave Justin more talking points to contrast with the other models discussed in this video.

@longandmcquade8 ай бұрын
Don't forget that Fender owns Charvel, so they don't really need to introduce features from their Charvel guitars into their Fender lineup. That just blurs the line between two distinct product offerings. They said to the man look at this neck Leo who said wow that's a show neck how did that get out of here? Anyway several years later I began to play guitar and it dawned on me who I had met that day. It's now a cherished memory of a very nice man who told my dad he was very lucky to his bass with that neck. He also gave me a lifesaver candy. RIP Mr. Fender.

This is such a pet peeve of mine. If you know how to string a guitar, then the only benefit of locking tuners is speedier string change. No tuning stability benefit at all, absolutely zero. Tuning instability number one culprit is the nut. Second place is user error, like not knowing how to string a guitar or not stretching the strings properly. Number seven on a vibrato equipped guitar is vintage bridge where the six pivot screws hasn't been been adjusted properly preventing the bridge from returning to pitch smoothly.

Neck shape is important, radius and profile. I like soft V but impossible to find a stock Soft-V with rosewood. I bought cheap used Squier I keep in my car just to jam with friends in case, I'm now buying a Japanese model. My advice would be go to a store and try as many as you can to buy the right one. And it's not easy cause you only notice the good or bad points with practice. Pickups can be changed easily. I think about having a custom neck be made to my specs...

Liked the one with the green headstock. This one though for me 41:10 is do die for (visually). Although, I will aim for the price range of the player series. I'm not comfortable paying more than that because this will be one of my main work horse guitars, and I might be drinking while operating it as well. too many strats man! If you got the money, buy the one that screams hello to you, if you on a budget, just get whatever your budget allows. I got a Fender Player Stratocaster MX22 and for me a fender is a fender. I know there are material differences, but you can if youre not happy swap the neck, the tuners nuts, all of the pick ups to what you want, and then it's sort of up to what you put into your guitar that matters not where it was made. buy a fender player strat, if you want lockings tuners, buy and swap, want a rosewood neck? swap it. you want seymore duncans? do it... i mean you can do so much so all in all you have no need to buy "this" fender, buy YOUR fender. My Fender jazz bass, i MIGHT change pickups on it to SD, i will oil the fretboard, or coat in in epoxy. The strat i just bought will prolly get SD Singles and maybe lockings nuts, not sure if ill bother. anyways, one can customize like you said your guitar pretty much, and when you buy a fender, you buy an "default" gitar that gets your name on it as you personalize it with the hardware you want, and the changes are not that, never swapped pickups before but if you just put the new pickups cords where the old ones were and you do a solid job on it then its all good in the hood. :)

I disagree on the single coil hum being an important part of "the Fender sound." The hum was just an unfortunate byproduct that no one covets. You're missing out on the #4 pickup position. Seen you skip past that a lot here and just do neck and then mid. #4 can be argued, is "the Fender sound". For me it's the best pickup position on a strat. PS: I feel like if you take off the eye glasses, your nose will come with it! 🤓

Thanks a lot, we certainly hope it helps because that was our goal! Noted about the omission of the #4 position. So many guitars and so many position possibilities, something was bound to be overlooked. Noted and we'll try to include more demos of positions in the future.

Its a weird marketing strategy by Fender and Gibson to say our earlier models were the best and since then we have been sitting on our arse. So we will keep improving our guitars but they are shit compared to our earler ones which we will remarket as the best at the fullest price. Capitalist arseholes still blowing smoke.

Having worked on a Squire a Tokai and a Fender professional at the same time.. The Squire was a good guitar at the price but the pickups were hot which made it less Stratty sounding. The early (1980-90) Tokai was the best built with a dreamy neck but sounded a bit flat for a Strat. The 6 year old professional I own won on sound, sharp as a pin which is due to pickups. I'd happily play the Squire. the Tokai with top end pickups would be my choice.

Sorry Its a Fender standard I meant. Its the older equalivalent of the professional with some new pickup mix.

Lol, I love how nobody knows if it's basswood,basewood??? It's not strat wood I do know that.

Eric Clapton plays the same standard Strat I have. That makes it good enough for me.

I ❤ my 🇺🇸 strat. Mexican strat is ok but I prefer 🇺🇸 neck more. Now I checked out an 🇺🇸 professional 2 telecaster and it felt so good, it fits my hands so much. Squire sucks, the neck is trash and I don't consider Squire Fender. The 3 strat test, there is a difference, not much.... I ❤ Fender but it gotten too corporate....I was looking at G & L , cause it's more Leo Fender.

Thank you very much for your excellent demonstration. Those three American Pros do sound different. Normal American Pro II ( rosewood fretboard)sounds thinner than the one with Pinewood body and the one with the Rosewood neck. These two later ones both sound similar, except the Rosewood neck sounds a bit dull/ woolen. This is my order of preference: 1. CS 58.15 2. JV Mod. 30.0 3. American Vintage 53.30 4. American Pro (pine body) 43.10

That JV red Aerodyne is very cool but the text says rosewood. Looks like maple to me but maybe they figured a way to lighten up rosewood. The lighter fretboard adds a color but for me I’d prefer a darker look to keep with the space ship look. Just me I guess but I like a dark looking guitar with the frets and strings offering the only bling. Sinister. Sounds good,

You know, this video has been up for 8 months, and you're the first one to notice that! You are correct, it's maple! It was just mislabeled in the on-screen text. Thanks, eagle-eyed viewer!

What a great idea for a video! But as a lefty, the nuances in neck shapes and sizes are never realized when, due to the selection of lefty guitars (all makes), is so terribly limited. And playing a $3000 model upside down - y'know, just to get a feel - isn't a solution. (Worse when looking for Les Pauls.) So what irony that your premium guitar was lefty. Too funny. Anyway, good job L&M, great job Justin.

My only gripe is on the American Vintage line. When it comes to the slab Rosewood, Fender didn't accurately round the top of the board off like they did in the 50s-60s. It's cut straight across. I think it was intentional because every Custom Shop Strat with a slab board has this unique feature, identical to the originals. Another incorrect detail is the tint in the finish. When the originals were made, they were sprayed with a clear lacquer and aged into a yellowish tint over the decades.. Fender sprays these reissues, almost an orange color, and looks tacky. So, these are small gripes..but when you're paying those kinda prices and Fender claims accuracy..that's what I expect..but in reality you have to either get a vintage Fender from that era, or pay twice as much (or as much, if used) as an American Vintage for a Custom Shop reissue.

For a guitar that Leo Fender designed and built based on feedback he got from guitarists of the ‘50’s I’d say he hit a home run with that final production unit’s features. At almost 70 years old now that same design has been copied by just about every guitar builder the world over . Thanks for breaking down those ones you portrayed here. 😎👍

I enjoyed the video & took some notes believe me so thank you! Just 1 question if you even answer…if you wanted to build a guitar in the style of David Gilmour and I know his signature are now ridiculous since he no longer owns it & I don’t have 10+ grand😂 and keeping it below 2 grand which would be the best to pick? And then simply over time upgrade. I have a Vintera 60’s & many other guitars and I love the Vintera just not that it’s not maple or rosewood but love the feel and ease & want to pick wisely & I do love to play on the 7.25 radius frets over the jumbo & like the Vintage tuners etc don’t care about locking tuners etc which would be a good model to go with? Am I better to Mod shop one? I will even buy it online from you guys🤘 Just would like an honest answer. Always watching your videos & had this one saved as my go to so thank you!
