First of all, wow, that's tough, I feel bad some times when I restrain my dog in stress full situations because I feel like I'm preventing her/forcing her to do stuff she want's/doesn't want to do. I didn't expect the video to be this blunt, but I wanted to ask you a question because I feel like I need some help here. So my question is: I know you are supposed to socialize dogs and all, but where I'm from it's often -15c so outside socializing is not really something that's on the table right now. I've been trying to socialize with most arctic dogs that do live in the area, so she can play and interact with the people for an hour or two, but since I got her we haven't seen + signs on the thermometer in the past two three months. The kind of people that can stop and socialize are hard to come by when walking. I do not have a lot of friends to invite in my home because I'm not very social. (that's why I got a dog, to further develop my social skills I've worked on the past 5 years, not as a fix!) and puppy class/dog class aren't very common because there's so few people here. My question isn't about "if I should socialize my dog" obviously it's good for her, but my question is should I be worried that she tends to get super hyper when we meet other dogs (laying down, crawling in a very playful manner) and not wanting to just walk by them (if the other dog is not up for play/the owner is not responsive I try to walk away), and also crawling, and jumping in the air if I walk by people that do not want to greet/I don't feel like she's calm enough to greet? She also growls at people if she has a stick in her mouth (her favorite toy), my theory is that she's just being playful, but: 1. is my theory wrong? 2. do you know how I could tell her that growling at me or anybody is kinda "mean", without saying "STOP/NO!", I'd tried waiting for her to stop and lay down the toy/stick, but it doesn't seem to work when we greet other people she does the same thing. 3. should I continue to train her to ignore sticks/tell her "it's walk time now, not play time" and throw away the stick Most of the dog training videos/info I see tend to be in tempered climate, where the owner can comfortably socialize in the environment without any fear of freezing the dog like a lolly pop, but I'm often knee deep in snow, or have to walk on literally ice trying to get my puppy to calmly walk by without me dragging her along. I struggle with social anxiety, and I don't want it to rub off on my dog since she's been so good so far, but I'm afraid I'm encouraging her to be more reserved because I'm either preventing her to play/interact, or not giving her the right queue on what's good or bad behavior. We do go out 2-3 hours a day around the village to smell around the corner, or play with other dogs, but most of the times we are isolated and don't meet any body for a week. She's just 6 month old, but I'm starting to fear that at this age she's going to learn some bad behaviors, I'm also ramping up my "no nonsense" training since she's relatively mature, is that a good idea or should I do something to curb the bad behavior now and focus on more specialized training later?

Thank you so much for your comment. I would love to help! It's a complicated scenario, so if it's at all possible, could you contact me? This way I can get all the context and give you the best possible answer.

@@AltheDogTrainer That would mean a lot to me! I couldn't find any contact info on your KZbin channel, can I contact you/your team on the www.longoriahausdogtraining.com "contact us" forms? I don't want to put my or your contact info in the KZbin comments. Getting professional/basic dog training help is hard to get by here, most training schools are located in bigger (warmer and so... oh so much bigger) cities that are way out of our physical reach! People tend to assume anything above 60 degrees north is "polar bear land, no body lives there anyway" We still love our dogs up north :) Our own government forget us in their politics most of the time... but we aren't talking politics here :P

Hi Al. @@AltheDogTrainer it's been a month since I tried to contacted you, but you never answered the temperatures are getting warmer now. Your training methods doesn't make sense to me, "5 Ways to Improve Your Dogs Place Stay!" You were showing people how to get a dog to listen to them on a 1-2 meter leash. how is that realistic? either my dog Albert Einstein or I am. She usually listen to me from 50 meters, if I have the ball. if I don't she will jump on them, if I have the ball she will ignore every dog and people. That's what I was asking! how do I get my dog to ignore stuff and focus on me?

We thought we had lost our dog one year when we were popping fireworks. We looked all over for him with no luck. When we were going home we noticed he had jumped through the truck window and into the truck. We won’t make that mistake again! Happy New Year!
