For the U.K. retail, it’s hard to fault. On the hunt now for flint and slate, love it.

Definitely seems to be the easiest thing Springbank puts out to find at the moment. Feels like a tease for what these 'Red' expressions will have in store. The wet slate/flint/soapstone type of minerality seems to be the most consistent label I can put on Springbank's funk... it's not perfect but it's kinda close 😅 Cheers Roy 🥃👍

Thanks for explaining the Springbank “seasons”. I wish I could find Scotch from springbank. It used to be readily available. I recently found a single bottle of Springbank 10yo, which I bought, but nothing else has been available in Boston, Massachusetts. Cheers!

Yeah it's becoming annoyingly difficult to get your hands on. There does seem to be a few bottles hidden away in certain parts of the states though - going unnoticed! Cheers David 🥃👍

@@WhiskyGeek Thanks 🙏 I’ll keep my eyes open but I suspect it’s in other states.

Great review, I didi find more flavours after the neck pour. Well done on the 100% on the blind tasting at Roys, i liked the way you presented your score by saying you got the average score up. Merry Christmas to all.

Yeah it opened up well as the bottle went down 👍 Haha, I had to try and string it out - build some suspense 😉 Cheers JIMMY Paul 🥃👍

This is one my favorite value whiskies. Love the creamy palate and smooth delivery of the peat. This is one of the few Springbank bottles that is regularly available here in Canada. I’d go for a NAS Hazelburn if it meant another bottle from SB that was more attainable.

Yeah it's just about the only one regularly available over there too! Yet to try a Hazelburn I think, or even see one for sale 🤔 Cheers Thomas 🥃👍

Definitely curious about Longrow so I really appreciated this review Ben. I really resonate with your approach to reviews as well! I will certainly keep looking for any Red releases as I feel that will be more in my wheelhouse. Cheers!

Salty, bright, refreshing peated whisky, if that makes sense. I quite enjoy this

Great walk through as usual. I have a bottle of this, unopened on the shelf. Hopefully I'll crack it soon. Also, yes, always another sip for editing! Thans for sharing, cheers!

I have this bottle and i had neck pour about 3-4 months ago and found it a difficult one to enjoy... its very singular in its flavour profile, a somewhat bitter/menthol style of peat... i was hoping for a bit of common hooks like fruit or vanilla that never showed. Also doesnt have any of that campbeltown funk which wouldve been added interest. It definitely feels like a young whisky as well, not always bad thing, but in this case perhaps a bit too spirit forward. Its been many months now tho, so maybe its time to dive back in again.

Fair comments, it definitely cant compete with the complexity & finesse of the Springbank 10 year old for me, though I do still enjoy it. I can't remember how I found the first few pours to be fair, it was so long ago now. Fingers crossed you find it more engaging on the revisit! Cheers Yong Goh 🥃👍

Great video and tasting notes. I must admit that I've never been a fan of the Longrow NAS / CV releases though. I infinitely prefer Longrow 18 or any of the Kilkerran releases. When I was at Springbank I was told that Longrow NAS is 7-8 yrs old. Cheers!
@WhiskyGeek3 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised it's that old to be honest! I would probably have guessed ~5 years. Opened my first Kilkerran over Christmas/New Years and definitely a whisky worth spending some time with 😁 Looking forward to my other bottles of it. Cheers Whisky Lock 🥃👍

Excellent review, yes creamy, spicy, and moderate peat for me; it’s hard to find in Canada; porter charlotte is better if you can find it.

People can be very peculiar.....they go crazy for Springbank, meaning it's almost unobtainable, and yet this can be found fairly easily, despite being produced in much lower quantities, even though it's a Springbank!
@flying_hussar30343 жыл бұрын
Good notes Ben. That's probably my least favourite Longrow. It's a good malt but I thought it could do with a little bit of depth and complexity. However I absolutely love Reds and really enjoyed the sample of 18. Hazelburn 10 on the other hand hmm just not my cup of tea.
@WhiskyGeek3 жыл бұрын
That's promising. Whilst I have enjoyed this bottle it hasn't really wow'ed me. Those Red's on the other hand ... I'm hoping for big things! Cheers Flying_Hussar 🥃👍

I feel like the problem springbank has, is that it is the only NAS statement in their range, so of course it doesn't match the complexity of a 10 year old. The problem is that the only reasonably aged are all special edition reds which nobody can get. Otherwise I'm gambling big money on an 18. Which is a shame because the reds are excellent and I'm sure the 18 is too. We need longrow 14 back on the regular (if you find an old bottle of 14 jump on it!)

I wonder if you drink too much of this one would it tear the hole out of you.

Take a look at the Kilkerran Heavily Peated (peat in progress) bottles if you're looking for something to tear you a new one 😅

The non age statement is very peaty i find the 18 is not as peaty

Often the way - the time in cask helps to tone down the peat and soften it. Looking forwards to trying some of these older Longrows! Cheers Gav & merry Christmas! 🥃👍
